demon farming

im not a newbie heroes player but the concept of demon farming is new to me. I tried it on a vs. computer game and found that i couldn't do it effectively. I've read posts of how players can accumulate 100 to 200 demons in the first four weeks. Would you mind sharing your tactics? Also, how many demons do you get to ressurect anyway. It seems that the higher the level of the original creature, the more demons ressurected. is this true?

I would appreciate your advice.

you just have to know before battle WHO the cpu will kill first ... else you'll have problems and lose a lot.  Also, don't bring in more than one type of fodder troop, because pit-lords can only raise once per battle.

I usually build pit-lord structure on week2 day2.  First 7 days I build as many creature structures as possible (with castle too).  Which means I don't start building for capitol until after I get 7 - 9 pit-lords in my army.

Diplomacy is a MUST.  Marius is a great hero for a main, or perhaps sir Mullich too (if u have SoD).

9 pit-lords can raise a maximum of 12 demons per battle.  7 can raise up to 9 or 10.
the number of demons you get is proportional to the # of HP in converting army, also limited to # of pitlords * 1.4.

here's a little conversion table.  All these creatures the cpu will attack before your demons/ pit-lords/ efreet first:
9 imps = 1 demon (36 HP) ... cost per demon = 450 gold
3 gogs = 1 demon (39 HP) ... 375 gold.
3 hell hounds = 2 demons (37.5 HP) ... 300 gold

7 pikemen = 2 demons (35 HP) ... 210 gold
7 archers = 2 demons (35 HP) ... 300 gold
3 griffins = 2 demons (37.5 HP) ... 300 gold

9 centaurs = 2 demons (36 HP) ... 315 gold
7 dwarves = 4 demons (35 HP) ... 210 gold
7 elves = 3 demons (35 HP) ... 433 gold
7 pegasi = 6 demons (35 HP) ... 292 gold

can't convert necro, gargoyles, or golems.
9 gremlins = 1 demon (36 HP) ... 270 gold

7 trogs = 1 demon (35 HP) ... 350 gold
5 harpies = 2 demons (35 HP) ... 325 gold
5 beholders = 3 demons (36.7 HP) ... 417 gold

7 goblins = 1 demon (35 HP) ... 280 gold
7 wolves = 2 demons (35 HP) ... 300 gold
7 orcs = 3 demons (35 HP) ... 350 gold

6 gnolls = 1 demon (36 HP) ... 300 gold
5 lizards = 2 demons (35 HP) ... 275 gold
7 flies = 4 demons (35 HP) ... 385 gold
1 basilisk = 1 demon (35 HP) ... 325 gold

all these numbers change if you have a ring of health, etc.

watch out when battling unicorns, scorpicores, basilisks, or medusas, because they may blind/ stone your troop you want to get killed, then go after others.
Also, air magic is by far the BEST skill to have.  Mass haste on your uber stack of demons.

My record is about 771 horned demons after 6 weeks on hgXL.  I was crappin my pants and thought, "how the hell did I get so damn many?" ... meteor shower (to genocide my own troops) and expert diplomacy.  Had LOTS of joiners, and I knew just what to do with them.
It's so fun to be so cruel to your own creatures, get away with it, and win

Its helpfull if you are able to get the clone spell early in a game because then you can take 2 lots of fodder and use cloned pit lords to bring a  2nd lot of demons.
Of course this is difficult spell to get with inferno town, but useful to remember with rich L or XL maps with lots of towns.

Couple tips

as wiggy said, being able to kill your own troops is extremely helpful.  So don't suicide you gogs right away, move stacks next to ememy and fire away.

cloning those pit lords helps too.  I haven't done this myself, but was told that cloned pit lords can also raise demons.
