Announcing the H4 Unity project

We're pleased to announce that a group of dedicated Heroes 4 fans have taken upon themselves the task of creating a Heroes 4 version of the newly released H7 campaign: Unity. The H4 version of the campaign will be based on the original script, written by Terry B. Ray, which we have been fortunate enough to get our hands on (thanks to a certain some one).

We plan for our version to be slightly different than the H7 version, while still staying true to Terry B. Ray's script. We will tell you more about these differences later. Right now, the team is still processing the original script and planning out the details of each of the five maps. We have great plans for this campaign and hopefully the fan communities will support this project.

If you would like to help with the project, please don't hesitate to contact us either on this forum, by mail at h4-unity@outlook.com, or on FaceBook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1570455336599900/.

What plans did you have at the design of the map? Will it look similar to already Heroes VII-based ones, or did you decide to make new ones?

Also, I assume you'll be making the other campaign, "Every Dog Has His Day", after the Heroes VII version of the campaign is launched?

Good luck to you guys and I hope your efforts are crowned with success. It would be splendid if the maps ended up preserving both the spirit and the form of what was originally intended for Heroes 4.

"What plans did you have at the design of the map? Will it look similar to already Heroes VII-based ones, or did you decide to make new ones?"

We will base the map designs on Terry Ray's notes. Of course some of them will have similarities to H7, in terms of landscapes, certain landscape objects and map objectives, as these are found in the script. But in general we don't intend to copy or seek inspiration from H7, we plan to do our own interpretation of Terry's script and notes.

Alot of ideas are still being discusses, but we aim for a different approach in some regards, compared to H7. In areas where specific notes has been made by Terry, e.g. regarding placement of certain objects/objectives you will find similarites to H7.

We would of course very much apprechiate ideas or suggestions, if there are certain areas where you feel our version can do better than the H7 version. E.g. balance.

"Also, I assume you'll be making the other campaign, "Every Dog Has His Day", after the Heroes VII version of the campaign is launched?"

This has not been discussed within the team, yet.

@Stevie.

Thank you. Indeed that is our hope. Terry's story is of course the main part of it, and no doubt does it have the H4 feel to it. Reading the script, there's no doubt that this campaign has a somewhat different approach than most of the other official campaigns, as this is very Hero focused, as seen in the H7 version as well.
So far we can see that several of our initial ideas were quite close to Terry's notes, so we take that as a good sign.

I've been thinking if we should change the name of the campaign, from The Lost Tales of Axeoth - Unity to something else.
The reason, is 1) I wish to distance our version to the H7 version. 2) The Lost Tales of Axeoth being a wordplay by Marzhin, refering to his Legends of the Ancient H5 project. 3) The Lost Tales.. title, also being a reference to the script being a 'lost tale'/un-used script found by the H7 team, I feel it would make sense to scrap the Lost Tales.. part for the H4 version, as we're not returning to or trying to recreate Axeoth. We're already there 4) To some degree I find the word Unity somewhat imprecise, as it could mean a lot of things depending on the context in which it's used.

So I've been thinking something along the lines of 'The Theory of Unity Magic' or 'Proving the Theory of Unity Magic'. The word 'Balancing' has also been suggest, as that's also a keyword in the campaign.
In relation to the original script, I can inform you that it's untitled, only refered to as 'No Town', but indeed it seems obvious to use the word 'Unity' as the script states that Genevieve intend to prove her theory of Unity Magic - changing the old Elemental system into the new magic system of H4. She also states how all of the magics are needed to keep Balance, like Order can't exsist without Chaos.

What do you think? Should we seperate the H4 title, from the H7 version and what title would you suggest?

I think "Unity" is for the best actually. Simple, straight to the point, and even if it's a bit vague it's better than having the title sell the whole story.

actually the campaign was called Unity and Every Dog Has Its Day in Heroes 4 funnily enough, they didn't pull those names out of their ass thankfully lol

yeah I'd get rid of the lost tales bit though, that part is quite lame lol

Hmm. I do recall Every Dog Has It's Day being on the highscore list and also reading about it later on, but I don't recall Unity. Can anyone confirm this? Otherwise, I may have to reset my highscore.
In the original script, it's merely refered to as No Town, (title to be determined), hence my suggestion for a new title.
Indeed Genevieve and Pherlon are present in the Editor, as well as Dogwoggle (but he's already used in other campaigns), but aren't the wiki made by fan contribution?

In his interview Terry Ray appears to recognize the campaign names "Unity" and "Every dog has his day". I see reason to believe that the names were intended that way.

I thank you both for clarifying that. I have read the interview some time ago, but I agree it does seem the titles were as intended, and not Marzhin's work.

Okay so we stick to the names Unity and Every Dog Has It's Day (it seems very likely that there's support to do the other campaign aswell, once that is released and we've finished Unity).
In relation to that, it's been discussed wheter they should be bundled together under some title, like The Lost Tales.. Soon the idea came up that, if possible, they could be set up as an expansion, including expansion title, new menu and additional campaign screens.

Personally I envisioned this to be a project for the fans by the fans, therefor I think it's only fair to hear what the community thinks and what they would hope to see with this project, like new campaign pictures, a new expansion or just combined release title listed long the skirmish maps, combat heroes looking like Pherlon and Genevieve etc.
Indeed we might find ourself being limitied, if we can't figure out ways to add these ideas, but if the general fan base don't see a need or don't desire to see stuff like this being added, then it would only be for our personal satisfaction and not that of the general fan-base, in which case it might not be worth spending too much time, trying to figure out if this or that idea, can be added to the game, at the cost of delaying a release.
Let us know what you think..

Sounds cool but still i am trying to create Heroes 4 mod but i don't understand most of the things. I am trying to re-create this amazing game. Still Heroes 5 is best for me and Heroes 4 is amazing game but very bad implementation of ideas.

Vulcancolak, if you seek to mod H4 I would suggest doing a search for some of the H4 modding treads. There are some good guides as to how the game is coded and you mod stuff like creature stats and abilities as well as hero skills or adding new main menu screen etc. If there are certain things you seek to mod, you should post in those treads. Someone might be able to help you out. Good luck.

UPDATE 24/4/16:
We've decided to treat the way Genevieve learns about the new magic system, very differently than the H7 campaign, part of that being the way Genevieve actually learns about each new magic school and how she discovers the spells within each school. So rather than just having to visit a number of spell shrines, the islands themselves exhibit the power of each of the magic schools, which is what we're focusing on. We're still working on ideas as to how we express this, but we hope it will create exciting game play, as well as giving the player a feeling of playing out the story.

Our team of committed fans are progressing in our attempt to create a H4 version of the Unity campaign. We're halfway through the making and balancing of the first map, but we'd very much like the help of other testers.
So if you want to help us, please post here or pm me.
