Well, I'm depressed, too, Galaad. My girl left me. Let's just wishfully hope life will cash such things back as some sort of wisdom and not pathology.
You've probably been wasting too much time on the internet.

Anyway, Zappa said, Broken Hearts are for snows, but my advice for you would be, to NOT hear sentimental music, but more stuff like this, which is my favorite song, when I suspect self-pity with me over something: Motörhead - Fight

Oh, come on man. I'm all for "not self-pity" but my ears have self-pity

It's not that I dislike hard-rock categorically, they just have to put in a little old-school in it.

Well, I found that nothing makes me grit my teeth more than Lemmy ending that song with a gruff "Fight, you mf". And it's not "hard rock", for frag's sake, it*s either "Rock'n'Roll" because that's what Lemmy says they play - or Thrash/Speed Metal which is what that song is. The album's called Inferno, by the way, fittingly.

Guns'n Roses music hasn't aged favorably, I think. I own, the records, yes, but I miss something with them.

But that's beside the point. What I wanted to say is, don't go down sentimental road; see it as a chance. Reminds me: last time a relationship went south - which was a long time ago - I listened EXTENSIVELY (which is to say, in a loop) to This, albeit the studio version, which does the infectous riffing more justice, but isn't available in my country (but might in yours).
Luckily enough there is also Part 2 version - and even Part 3 which is monstrously good.
Getting up and out and into something new is THE advice.

Okay, let me put it this way. I drink now and there's music, there are friends I can exchange pranks and witty comments like we just did and I'm not sarcastic about the friendship part, I like talking to you guys and it helps. But I had a real break up and of course I'm going to go "the sentimental way" about it because the sentiments exist. She was amazing. I miss her. I wont die, I'll survive. But I don't want to survive optimally if that means to pretend the girl I lost is just some "routine" that will be replaced by some other "routine."

So, let me have my blues. To compensate is not to ignore something that hurts you.

I'm not going to argue, but the advice isn't about PRETENDING something.

Your gf may have been the most amazing girl ever - but now she's history. And she isn't dead either - which would justify sentiments, believe me, I've been there. No, something didn't work out, and something you (two) couldn't fix, whether you saw it comeing or not.

Which means, there are 2 possibilities:
1) You were no real fit;
2) You were, but one of you (or more probably both) screwed up;

If 1), get up and out and into something new;
If 2), you have to trust fate and future - you may get a second chance, but you (both) need a differenz perspective to realize. So get up, out and into something new.

That said - life's too short for wasting time with regrets, except when there is a LESSON in it for you to be learned. Otherwise - yeah, I know, you're sad; but the question is still 1) or 2). I mean, if you miss her so much, how come it went south?

Ok, here's a nice one: Lenny Kravitz - Don't go ...
I also like Thin Ice from Circus, but there is no link in the web.

To go into details would be like talking behind her back and it would be only my perspective. So let's just play music about how snowed up relationships are:Ramblin' on My Mind

Rare Earth - I know Im losing youis a great one as well (the live version from the Live in Concert album is even better, but I don't seem to find it). However, Pete Rivera did good versions solo.

I really like his ability to work with a simple riff and reduce a song to what's important.

At this point I'm in the morbid mood to share what was played at my wife's funeral in 2003.

1st movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, for example here.

Maria Callas - La Mamma Morta, for example here

Heather Nova - Heal, for example here, which is the song that does it to you, really, and then, at the end

Annie Lennox - A whiter shade of pale, for example here.

Now get up, out and into something new, because that's what life is all about!

Well, it wasn't exactly a pleasure, and the english answer "never mind" isn't actually communicating my feelings, but I shed some tears (as well) going through it again, and that felt surprisingly good.

But it felt better to read that something I did MATTERED.

Thanks for that, mate.

Lastly, I have a commercial for you. I think, this is the best commercial ever, with the best slogan ever thought of. There are a couple of variations, but this one is getting the message across impressively.

I don't think, you can find a better slogan for something you eat or drink, than "Life tastes good". That's just incredibly WOW, some of those messages that don't make any sense at all, but are insanely spot-on nonetheless.

Currently listening to Jesus and Mary Chain - Automatic (full album).
