Are there any tutorials as to how to mod units? Meaning what programs to use and whatnot?

Well, it is more due to many bad decisions stuck with the game, plus many bugs and other things that should not have been added.

Some of the bugs have been removed and the new add-on is being announced, so there is something in here. It isn't hope towards the game, but something else.

I doubt the quality of the game could reach Heroes V or III, but something different could be made. Especially with the mods.

At least, I think, this is a good way to learn more about modding. I don't think Heroes VI offered that much of a chance.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm not here to convince anybody that Heroes 7 is the best game ever and I'm not going to get into any kind of discussion about why it is what it is. I have more interesting things to do with my life . But for the record, I have stated my general opinion about the game in one of my first posts in this topic. For me it's still a good game and worth spending some time and work. If it is not the case for most Heroes fans out there - so be it. Although I'm just pointing out the possibilities, should a fan decide to try out modding, despite the game's ratings.

As my mod was one of the first Heroes 7 mods and the first global one, then of course no tutorials exist yet. I went in here blind and just explored on the way. But I think that it's just a matter of time before we get some fan articles and tutorials on the subject.

For the record - you can do many things in just the H7 editor (in its Unreal 3 mode). But to mod a creature you will probably need some 2D graphics software (like GIMP) for the textures and 3D modeling software (like 3DS Max) for the models and animations.

Acid Dragon is way to modest

I've made a few maps and uploaded them to steam and the editor has 2 settings

the general purpose map editor (for noobs like me)
and the unreal editor  o_0

I tried a few times to do something in the unreal editor and it may as well have been written in Chinese cause I have no idea what the hell is goin on in there

I'm really anxious to see the next update for the mod
(I've paid money for dlc's that cant hold a candle to this mod)

I have noticed something interesting. In campaigns when you get a dwelling building that gives you core or elite units, it will also gibe you the modded units as well. In dungeon campaign i could get pantjers out of the core dwelling among tje other units.

weird question: when you choose a color for your faction the units have some bits and pieces colored after your choice.
the thing about dryads though is that her bra or smth gets colored without any texturing underneath. it's like it's been done on paint. can you look into that?

I wanted to write something smart, something imporant, but I'm too tired. Let me cut to the chase, let's talk about Sphinx.

Sphinx would make a pefect alternative unit in Academy lineup. It's fast, it can fly, it can strike and return. It could replace Air Elemental. In this case we wouldn't have to look for a new neutral creature because we lost none.

What do you guys think about it? Re-skinned Lamassu is not that bad. It's better than a random elemental (Yeah, yeah, I know it's not exactly random, but I'm trying to agitate here ).

Actually I listened to the most repeated feedback on the mod and decided to move Air Elementals to Stronghold, so now Efreeti and Efreet Sultans are in Academy.

In theory Academy could have 3 alternative units, although personally I still think that a Sphinx is thematically neutral (it was an adventure object in the older games) and would make a good neutral unit.

@ChrisD1 That is very specific. Not promising, but I can take a look.

That encourages me to pitch my idea for Sphinx as an alternative to Rakshasa even more . There's no doubt that Sphinx would make a great neutral unit, but we can say the same about Air Elementals, Efreets and White Tigers. Personally, I would love to see Sphinx as un-undead version of Lamassu . To fit the theme of Academy it could be a construct as well - some sort of House Anima creation.

Concering Efreet, I'm not a biggest fan of the unit as a part of Academy lineup. Since H3, Genies and Efreets have been portrayed as mortal enemies. I see them as polar opposites (like Angel and Devil, Bernie and Trump, Mew and Mewtwo). That's why I propose to make Efreets and Genies alternative units. Let us choose between two of them.

I like air elementals with simurgh...it's nice having them together cause air elementals can go first and also have 8 movement. Keeps my birds alive

Anyway, I've been thinking about the project and something struck me. AC mod adds new creatures, which is obvious, some of them are alternatives to units that already have a hero specialized in them. So, isn't it a great opportunity to add a hero or two to each faction? Or maybe, to add new heroes' specializations that "give" special abilities to creatures? For example: A hero specialized in Cabirs could grant them a fire shield ability. Is it possible to write a script like that?

While the possibilities are endless about what can be done, the mod of AC is focused right now in modding alternative units and creating units based on current models, so, i guess we could try to focus more on this right now and help him with our input.

We can also wait for hero specializations until the new expansion comes out and see what changes and what not and then we can talk again about better specializations.

I would like to come with ideas though for an alternative Academy core in place of Cabirs. Seeing this hamster/kobold thing, i'd much like to see the Cabirs in Fortress if AC agrees on that and somehing else taking their place in Academy.

Yeah, Articun I do agree with you. It's great that new expansion pack is coming up soon. I can't wait for it to see AC mod flourish .
Talking about creatures. We're in desperate need for an alternative Academy core unit. The choice between Golem and other type of Golem is not really a choice. It's not a good choice. The problem is that I  have no clue what kind of creature (that is possible to make at the moment) could replace Shantiri Golem.

Well, there is always the idea of a beastman to fill that place. From a smaller Raksasha remodel that occupies one tile, to a gnoll reskin, or to even an enslaved harpy or centaur. In Dule of Champions there are ideas:

For core Units
1. Raksasha Skirmisher
2. Enslaved Harpy
3. Arcane Archer
4. Blade Mage
5. Void-Shade - Magic Servant

The above are units that can be reskined or recolored from the units currently in the game from various degrees of difficulty. Still, it could prove to be interesting to see them happen.

For Elite units
1. Embers Elemental

and even others in general. these are just ideas.
