And honestly, who would believe that? This thread should be preserved as a reminder. A funny one.

I have to disagree with the last part of your statement.

When you put all of this together, it's a depressing read. You can see how team Erwin destroyed what it was accomplished in H5 (after two expansions), with near endless decisions that hurt the game.

I would still like to think that Verriker is Erwan, the ability to embody and accept your greatest faults and weaknesses (hell even acknowledging them is pretty grand to begin with) and being able to face them without remorse is the skill of a saint. It would overjoy me to know of a person who has attained this.

That or Verriker is a bat-**** crazy stalker (imho) ^^'.

The day this series finally falls out of the hands of this utterly clueless development team will be a good day. That day is on its way!

I can see the tack being added to this thread now---"The Decline of the Erwinian Dark Age/Down came the rain, and washed the Spider-lord out!"

Who knows? Maybe the guy and his people will have the decency to step down...

Thus will end the ugliest chapter of the series, and be buried over time while the old universe will *still* be cherished and added upon and carried in spirit in other games ...

Oh, and....

Spider-Lord Erwin apparently said:
"I dream of a Might and Magic trilogy worthy of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings one."

Nope and nope.

Even if good ol' JVC and NWC were still around commandeering the series and greenlit this idea, I would absolutely *not* support it whatsoever.

There's this thing these days that something builds a worthy legacy and all of a sudden, it absolutely has to be converted into a movie!

And as it pertains to gaming franchises undergoing this, look at the failures such as Super Mario Bros., Dungeons and Dragons, Final Fantasy (the spirits within), etc. (Warcraft, you next!)

Some things ought to stay in their successful, proven medium.

Damn one argument that we often heard from the h7 devs was that there was many Heroes communities and that really HC was "extreme, conservative and hardcore" and God forbid it to speak on behalf of others. Fair enough, just the other day I bumped into the h7 thread from rpgcodex,oh my, really I'd say HC is real kind and quite open-minded compared to these guys, most of comments really made my day and some I find are quite gold so I made a small selection, enjoy the read, we are not alone!

What should be expected is an even more dumbed down game with even more over the top "edgy" dark fantasy elements, and the only saving grace will be the Paul Romero and Rob King soundtrack if they return. This series should be considered dead apart from the New World Computing stuff and Heroes 5.

Quote:
HoMM6 was developed by a hungarian studio previously known for that ****ty Warhammer RTS, Mark of Chaos I believe it was called. The game was unbelievable, irredeemable **** (probably both the studio's and Ubi's fault) and studio was ran to the ground by Ubi.

If 7 is more or less 5 I won't mind. Nothing beats the third part, of course, but the fifth was pretty good on its own, even though it had atrocious graphic design and ran awfully slow.

I'm still Butthurt about dumping Erathia, the world of Might and Magic, in favour of this crappy Ashan. Sure, Erathia was generic, but it had so much charm, whether we talk about the RPGs, or the Heroes games. It happened a long ago, but yeah, my ****ole still hurts.

Quote:
Fortress are supposed to be Lizardmen, what is this horror? (yes, the last HOMM game I have played was IV, why do you ask?)

Quote:
BTW art style will be better than 6th game if they'll follow concepts on the site. They get rid of that "sunriders" and we got some normal looking knights at last.

Quote:
this was the worst. Overly ornamental, grotesque design. They couldn't be more far off from the classical, mythological look of the first 4 heroes. 4 would have been a high point had it not been rushed to oblivion.
Heroes of Might and Magic used to look elegant. 5 was cartoonish warcraft, 6 was cartoonish ugly.

Quote:
Meh, that town looks pretty crappy. I really dislike this modern painterly style that's everywhere nowadays. Could be a mobile game and you wouldn't even notice.

**** this ****. Skipping it by default yet again.

Why do they try to reinvent the wheel when HOMM 3 was perfection already? Just do that in 3D instead of ****ing around with the concept - you can only do worse.

The limitation of faction types is due to budget restraints -- i.e. Ubisoft is saving them for DLCs.

Quote:
Looks like this will be the second worst installment in the series. They pretty much only seem to have "unstreamlined" some of homm6s worst decisions, but it still looks baed. Town screen looked generic, animations looked horribly floaty and unconnected, the floating text in combat makes me feel bad etc.

Quote:
Damn this does look a lot like 6. I don't get it. Do the developers of these games do any sort of research at all? If you look at any HoMM forum 3 and 5 are popularly considered to be the best of them all (3 especially, but a lot of people like 5 as well). 6 is often considered to be the equivalent of cancer (personally, I don't think it's that bad of a game but it is much worse than the others). Why make your new game resemble 6 so much then? Why not make it more like 3 and 5? Why?

Quote:
Man, **** the graphics even. Heroes of Might & Magic V is one of the worst-looking games in existance. It took a dump on 3's legacy there. Hell all games since III have looked like ****.

What bothers me is that it seems to stick to most gameplay conventions of VI. 1 and 2 were good games, 3 was effing great, 4 was an interesting misstep and 5 was basically 3 with a lot of cool additions and worse aesthetics. Then VI dumbed everything down and presumably didn't do that well. Why then continue in that line?

Infinitron: We should sent a notice to Limbic informing them they are in danger of us revoking their bro-status!

I hope I'm wrong, but maybe the series is just dead.

Disclaimer: I actually think that VI's graphics were a huge step forward compared to IV and V, though.

I saw this heroes 7's release yesterday, considered that it was published by ubisoft and thought :"the probability of this being shovelware considering ubisofts actions lately is pretty high, gotta check steam reviews and codex to see if it is worth anything before buying". Checked steam reviews, 45% positive, checked codex, tons of negativity, heroes 7 shovelware confirmed, back to playing some more age of wonders 3.

Quote:
I sure as hell hope not... The only reason Ubisoft has done what they've done is because fanboys have rewarded this kind of behavior with money, and the only way to make them stop is to stop rewarding shovelware, and only reward actual good games with money. So I'm glad that it's not in the top 10 anymore - and I hope it doesn't turn out to actually be profitable for them... Steam refunds goes a long way in helping with this issue.

HMM7 is worthless crap.

Quote:
I wonder where the Heroes 3 comparisons come from. To me, most of the game looks like 6, feels like 6 and has similar mechanics as 6. Of course, that in itself is enough of a disaster, yet somehow they managed to achieve a far worse performance while not improving graphics in any way. Future expansions could improve the game a lot, but I guess it will meet a similar fate as 6: Not enough initial sales -> one half-hearted and crappy expansion introducing new bugs -> Ubisoft promising patches and new content -> nothing ever happens and the game dies -> four years later Heroes 8 gets released, being a low budget-mixture of 6 and 7, designed to cash in on those people who religiously buy every HOMM title.

Quote:
bull****. HoMM5 was a good game precisely because it built upon H3 mechanics (adding some good innovations like skill wheel and initiative) and not trying to reinvent the wheel. I would be playing it much more if the engine wasn't so goddamn slow.
The fourth part had some potential, but it needed a year more development time or so. The sixth was an abomination - ruleswise it was so **** words can't describe. I haven't and won't play the newest installment so I cannot say for sure why it failed.

Quote:
This is not rocket science. A direct sequel to a game- any game- shouldn't reinvent the wheel or stray away from an established formula. It should take the existing mechanics, add more features, depth and make it shinier. That's it. HoMM3 is far from a perfect game, it had acres of room to grow. There was absolutely no reason to abandon it and start snowting out spin-offs and a pseudo-sequels, as was case with HoMM4 and HoMM5+, respectively.

Quote:

And that's the issue. You are probably a casual player. Just someone who plays the campaigns and moves on to other things. And that's perfectly fine. If I were a casual player I'd claim HoMM4 to be the superior game- to me it has the best music, atmosphere and story. However, those things make only a fraction of the whole experience when we talk about thousands of hours of gameplay. I've been playing HoMM practically non-stop since 2001. They're the first thing I install on my machines. And over all these years in terms of performance, gameplay, community content and multiplayer HoMM3 has always come on top.

So it's a standalone "heroes of might and magic with hamsters" spin off priced at 30 Euros? I predict a great success.

Lovingly developed by chinese slaves
Also, this Heroes will feature the classic RPG+ tactical turn-based combat gameplay in the series.
Info. Thanks, Ubi. Do they even get money for this snow or is it just pure sadism?

I can't believe H7 actually got an expansion!? Obviously it features the dullest faction to ever bless the series, not that I was going to buy it anyway. I'm just curious to see how it's going to sell. Players can't be THIS retarded.
If only Ubisoft and its recent degenerte incarnations (UbiHole and Limbosoft) could just drop the series, I'm not having fun with HoMM since Tribes of the East.

No. Just no. If they ever remade Heroes 2 in "HD" the result would be unadulterated garbage compared to the quite brilliant pixel art of the original game. First five MM heroes need no remake, they have a perfectly functioning interface if you have two neurons and a functioning keyboard.

Lol the hype is real Some very accurate statements in there. Also this caught my attention:

I hate when this **** happens, I almost can see the middle finger of the developer in the middle of the screen and it is almos as if they said: "**** you! We know what is fun for you better than you!"

These acid communities are the reason why BSoft keeps paying its developers in Dragonballs Crystals.

(The reason why BSoft and the Limbic Warriors thought HC was extreme, was probably because it was the only forum they knew it existed beside SC and their own forums)

And yet it is clear from the quotes that those 'acid communities' have some expectations built over the years and simply react according to what they're getting. Like one of these guys suggested, some research on ubi's part would have helped. One reaps what one sows.

The Academy campaign.

I liked that twist, actually. That said, I think H7 campaign stories are relatively and comparatively good.
