Predator Creature (Alien Town)

So... my first attempt to create a new creature, I'd some idea of creating an Alien town, can be intresting
Well I've many ideas, unfortunately I don't have the experience and the knowledge to do all I want.
I don't know how to create creatures using the programs I found in the forum threads or how to animate them, so I've made it in Illustrator just a static one to see how it goes.

FIY, drawing/illustration is not my top skill, so be gentle
If someone can explain how to create creatures in the traditional way, and how to animate them and all that, i'll be glad.

@Warmonger, lol i've many ideas for creatures and towns... but drawing is not my best skill, i even don't know how they color it so it'll look like heroes 3 creatures.


@Bes, My russian is rusty but I can see that they made all the creatures in teory with stats and everything. it looks cool, but no one attempted to create one?

@Baronus, I've no problem collaborate with someone and help to create the town

Lol like literally thousands of people before you. Ideas are not quite enough nor they are worth anything. That's how we got 4000 threads in this forum but only a handful of playable mods and at most 2 finished towns (Cove and Forge).

Cove Town is awesome! I like to play with it, who ever did it big applause.

I can illustrate building and even artifacts, but the characters is the problem for me, to sketch it from head.
artifacts can be based on real items/weapons, so it's easier to look and draw them.
Or if you've a rough drawing in pencil I can convert it to vector, and color it, no problem.
My graphic style is more modern (like flat design/vectors), never did 2D stuff like in H3, even don't know how they do the colors lol.
But, if there is a way to colloborate and work together with someone, couple people and everyone is doing some part, I think we can create something. anyway, it worth the try

no, you created nothing, just designed a shapeless sprite and you call it artefact. Is not in the game, it has no properties, we can't use it is just an idea

I think what Warmonger means is that people should be realistic, start with little things, as draw creatures and ANIMATE them, draw some map dwellings and ANIMATE them, code them into game, and when they feel enough motivated, they can finally aim to such project as a new town, which means ~20 new creatures, same number of town dwellings and same number of map dwellings. + heroes, artefacts (if any), new specialities, new abilities.

I mean this thread will go for a week, then you will be gone, once you see how little you can do and how long it takes.

Start from small. Make one new creature or replace existing one. There are lot of sprites in single unit alone. Animations, map designs, shadows, sounds and potrait... Ask yourself do you really want to do it all, or just like the idea of it.

Well, everything needs to start from something, an idea, concept, sketch and so on.
Of course it's a lot of work and not easy, but I want to help and I'm just offering my help and trowing some ideas and designs, you can use it or lose it, if someone want to combine forces and take it on... we can do it.

About the artifact, it's not nothing, you know why? cuz it came from outer space, it's an alien rune that gives you great moral
Just cuz you liked it, I've made another artifact just for you.

Yeah I'm trying, I just don't know codding, animation (just in After Effects, but not sure it'll work) or the programs that everyone is using, I tried to search for it and watch some youtube tutorials, but it didn't helped me.
I do understand what you all saying, and as I mentioned before, design characters is not my best skill, I tried... but I'm offering to help if someone want to take this project or any other, and I can help with artifacts or dwellings (i can try to create one and see how it goes).

Anyway, couple days ago I even didn't know that all of this is exists, that there's new towns, creatures, artifacts etc... so I'm excited to help cuz I love this game.
I know it's a hard work, but I can try to help with what ever I can

Awesome! thanks a lot, finally someone is giving me some apps to work with
So, I found "MM Archive", can't find the other... or maybe they called by different name.
There's some program called "DEFka", I think it's for replacing creature.

All applications you need are annexed to mod manager. Open mod manager, you see them in list.

I'd say that making a creature first may be pretty challenging. I'd suggest to start with something easier, like replacing a portrait. You just need to use MMArchive to open H3bitmap.lod and search for portraits. There are 2 types of images you need to repalce, the big portrait (from hero window, garrison etc.) which are named as HPL*** (where * are digits) and the small portrait, the one you see on the right in the hero list, they are named HPS***. This should help you get a grip on the workflow. Also be sure to make the portrait the needed size (64*64 pixels for large portraits and 48*32 for small ones)

Yeah, found it in the "Era" addon, but it messed my game, the Era is not working and now the "HoTA" is not working, just the regular HoMM3
But the programs all there.

Got it, thanks!
The larger portrait is 58*64
Anyway, I created new portraits, and found them in the file you named using MMArchive, but I can't find how to replace them.
I was able to extract both portraits that's it, don't know how to replace

No, Era did not mess your game, you messed it because didn't RTFM. Era should be installed on SoD/Complete, Hota should be installed on SoD/Complete. Once you install ONE of them, your game isn't any longer SoD/Complete.

Both are not compatible.

@revolut1oN, I'm just trying to learn all this new stuff, so either help by explaining to someone new or just don't say anything, it's not helpful at all.
I understand that it's really bothers you (and others) that a new guy comes and trying to conquer the game in 1 day, but anyhow, I'm here to learn, explore and try new things, it will take time.

And I'm kinda lost with all those programs anyway, so if you can help, please do it instead of complaining, it'll be very appreciated.
