I think you were scammed there. The police doesn't do stuff like this. Heck, they can barely turn on a PC, their knowledge of IT is sorely lacking. And they most certainly don't charge money to unlock it again. If they find "offensive" material on your PC you either get dragged in front of the courts and stand trial, or you're released since it's not serious enough (as an innocent picture of you and your kid on a beach on a sunny day would be).

And Fred, I had to look up the term psilocybin and can say that I haven't. As it is, I'm not only a controlfreak, but I also need to be keen on my body's signals due to diabetes, so nothing goes in that can affect that sense of control and insight in my bodily well-being .

@ maury: you might just be safe, there

as for the control freak thing, i would suggest you see a psychotherapist. try the ink-blot thing, take some meds, whatever. then realize it's all bunk, and start toying with the psychotherapist, sheerly for your own enjoyment. when they find out that you're controlling them, they'll either take you off their patient/client list and accept abject defeat, or their ego will be threatened enough that they feel the need to continue "working with you" until they have a nervous breakdown. which is the more entertaining option, i think. snowing with psychotherapists is hands-down one of the more amusing pastimes for people with serious and/or dangerous mental illnesses. like control freaks.

The last time I watched Tucker Carlson, he was driving a scientist mad, who told him global warming is real and the data is solid, by asking him "but shouldnt science ask more questions?" Sneaky manipulator. The guy on the show says, he was also against the bill before reading it, it is specifically about healtcare providers of the elderly (ones nursing old people) and if they use the pronouns in a continious and intentional way to abuse them (making fun of the elderly they are there to take care of) it will be penalized. I'm guessing, similar penalty is already there if you abuse them verbally by any other insults, too. So, it is not like they are penalizing anybody for using he instead of she etc, nurses are responsible for the well-being and comfort of the elderly they take care of, it is a delicate context indeed. Carlson intentionally disregards this and tries to present it like they will put a cuff on anyone who doesnt use the correct pronoun.

No, I can call you an idiot or whatever thousand times, there is no law (yet) sending me in jail for that. The core detail you skip is that of course, granted one wants to act polite and cool, he will avoid intentionally hurting someone verbally. However, doing the opposite should NEVER lead to freedom privacy by sending someone in jail. When you reach that point, there is no limit to abuses as it also can be purely subjective, example Tucker asking "how many time I have to call someone by  wrong pronoun before going to jail". World is going crazy.

And btw I also watched that scientist interview. He wasn't capable to give precise conclusions, as what percentage of global warming is caused by man ans such. When you have so little data, and on the other side you claim that our climate is one the edge of destruction WHILE having no problems with China and India polluting at 100%, there is room for questions, especially when is politically driven. I never heard Carlson claiming global warming is not real, I am also 100% sure that man caused it majorly, but I dislike the hypocrisy of those using it for a  political benefit.

We can happily call each other idiots all day long, Sal. But if you are an elderly person left in my care, and as a professional, I intentionally abuse you that's a different context. It's just like having different sexual harassment rules when it comes to employer employee relationship or special laws for child abuse etc. An elderly person is dependent on his/her nurse even for very simple tasks, they cant tell them to just piss off.

About the global warming interview, he denied it was concluded for certain that it was caused by humanity, and there is no scientific doubt about that today. Also, it's not that the scientist didn't answer his questions, he couldnt since Carlson kept interrupting him, once again, deliberately to manipulate. The guy actually had to time his interruptions in the end

Hospitals and any health care centers have their specific behavioral code of conduct, they must remain productive, generate money and not upset the clients. This is why there are sanctions which can go up to firing someone for not behaving in a proper way. I am totally for respecting each establishment's codes, if when they hire you, you are informed and dully signed the bail. So in that aspect we agree, employees who mistreat clients verbally should be penalized following that establishment internal codes. The law already penalizes physical mistreats accordingly, if you now ask for it to punish words by freedom privacy -which is the WORSE of sanctions, next will be thoughts, suspicious eye contact, gestures and so on. It slips very fast.

But Carson completely disregards that context and sweeps it under the rug, misrepresenting the bill. For instance, if this wasnt about he/she pronouns and nurses abused the elderly who cant control their bladder, calling them names and making fun of them "continously and intentionally" with an intent to abuse, would it be freedom of speech?

Well, what is freedom of speech for, if not for protecting speech who hurts? Otherwise is just an useless slogan.

Is great that in USA we can walk with a swastika, talk racist, tell any dumb and hurting thing. This is the only way to take the temperature of a society and act accordingly when solving its problems. More you prohibit and morally restrain people from unveiling their mind, underground structures are created, they grow and are way more dangerous than before, because now you don't know who they are and who is in. Just compare the countries heavily punishing the freedom of speech with the ones not doing it (less of them every day), in which people are happier and have a more decent life, seriously?

I'm one hundred percent for freedom of speech but under this context, I dont think even in the U.S. the bill is making a structural change, it's just an addition for the LGBT, nothing more. Nazi nurses arent allowed to continiously call their patients the N word or something similar, they'll get sued in such a case. It is about a framed context and "intentional and continious abuse" doesnt seem like an extremely elastic criteria to me.

Aren't you guys forgetting the fact that there are TWO kinds of laws, the criminal law and the civil law?
So while you can each other happily call an idiot without breaking CRIMINAL law, the first of you doing that is offering a case for CIVIL law. The second can react differently by suing you because of offending him.

Which means, while there is "freedom of speech" insofar that the state isn't putting you to jail or fining you for saying anything (MOST anything, mind you), if you say something with regard to another person or group of persons you may still be sued if someone feels offended.

Trouble is, people who are DEPENDENT, have a hard time suing the people they are dependent on, whether for harrassment in the workplace, any kind of abuse or name-calling, mistreatment and so on.
