Well those penalties were embarrassing.
Not the most exciting game to watch but the better team went through. That handball by Boateng was hilarious though.

Dammit, we all hoped for a goal by Insigne during the supplementar times (Or however you call them), but at the end, not even super Gigi could do it. Still, the player I was mostly disappoonted by was Zaza, he was fredh and ready for the shoot-outs and he botched it...
Still, it was great celebrating Bonucci's shootout, at least we could try to outsmart Germany. And Parolo did a great shot.
But still, congratulations to Germany, they played greatly.

Everybody talks about Zaza awful miss, but imo Pelle was the worst offender - he was taunting Neuer before throwing it to one side of the net, with no effort at all!

Sorry, no.
We robbed ourselves of our strength. First half was an exercize in boredom. Second half we felt more comfortable, but still didn't create any chances. Goal was more lock than anything. Of course, when we got the lead the game was over because it was clear Italy wouldn't score against our massed defense.
When they did, we couldn't create anything, simply because we played with the wrong kind of guys. In the overtime the 3rd defender would often be in the box - but why not the 3rd change then and bring a fresh player who'd be more capable? Emre Can would have been a good choice, but Götze or Schürrle as well.
But, no. I mean, it's not like we beat Italy, right? and say what you want, Italy was playing their heart out, but they just don't have the players ow they used to.
And the expert of German TV says the same thing, it's all over the German media today. He got himself really into a rage. 
But he's right. When you are stronger, and make no mistake, this time around Germany clearly has the better team, when you have the best defense in the world with Neuer, Hummels and Boateng you don't rob yourself the benefits you can reap from that and bring a third defender - and then someone as technically lacking as Höwedes. Löw himself said, Italy is predictable, although very good in what they do, they would play from the outside into the middle, therefore he had to strengthen the middle, even if you agree on that - you simply switch to a 4-3-2-1, adding Schweinsteiger or Can to the defensive midfield for more stability.
So that was a really crappy game, and we were lucky, failing 3 penalties that the Italians couldn't use that to their advantage.

I have to side with Chris on this one.
IMO, Löw simply didn't want to experience a repeat of any of the previous encounters with Italy - where no matter how good Germany was, Italy would still find a way to defeat them with their predictable, turtle style.
What happened last night is that Löw went for a formation that would mirror Italy's, dragging the game into a "no team can really create chances" type of match. And it worked. I never felt that Italy were threating the Germany side. Sure, Germany were barely creating chances at all, but over the course of the match they forced Buffon to make a couple of fantastic saves + a few close attempts.
In the end everything was in the line in the penalties, sure, but I don't really think Löw's strategy wasn't bad.

It was, trust me. His formation was basically a message to his players saying, "we can't outplay them, so let's just deny them, in the end we will run them down", which did NOT work AT ALL, because I seem to remember Italy actually having the best chance in HT 1, the Sturaro shot after that cross from the line.
First half was nothing and our best chance was that billard ball that was wasted with a misnow.
Second half was better, true, but ironically the supposedly most commanding player of the tourney produced a penalty in his desire to demonstrate that he wouldn't produce a penalty-worthy foul play.
After that, to have viable options to avoid a penalty shootout, but not using it, not even using the option to bring in a fresh player - what does that signal to the players? "Even though we have a couple of tired and inefficient players on the pitch, what is sitting on the bench can't help?"
That was no coaching! It was a fall-back into the age-old mistake of bowing to Italy's game instead forcing our own game onto them.
And even the penalty shootout, which always involves luck, was simply lacking. Schweinsteiger HAD TO score, that's why he's last to shoot, but didn't even hit the goal. That's not a demonstration of conviction and self-assuredness.
It was a crappy game, and it wasn't Italy's fault at all, because they played what they could, missing a key element of their game, and it was not first-class, not even their defending. Müller had a really bad day, and the only reason we had offensive actions at all was Özil.
In short, we played just as bad against Italy as we did against Poland, and just as we were lucky to get away with a draw against Poland (which in the end would have transferred us into what looked like a cakewalk) we were lucky to get away with not winning in 120 minutes of playing and scoring only 2 of the first 5 penalties.
The simple truth is, against the Italy 4 years ago we'd lost yet again, and handsomely.

Ouch... 2:0 down in quick succession is tough for Wales but Portugal is the kind of team that can lose after a 2 goal advantage.
Either way whoever progresses to the final will be slaughtered there.
