Pokemon go - Using GPS revolutionary ?

Personal experience: This game has a lot of potential. It is very fun and has health benefits as well as social for some players. The day I actually played, it inspired me to use my rollerblades for over 3 miles. Seeing as it has been a few years since I even put them on I would say that's fairly decent distance. I have since decided to unplug from the game.

Quite certain they will improve it in the future as well. Now would be an ideal time to get in because getting in early is an easy way to be one of the epics in MMOs, however, for a variety of reasons, at least for now, I remain unplugged. Although for my friend I may offer to  make some rounds with her phone as I would be able to max out pokeball storage in no time where she is by many pokestops.

Cons:
*A bit dangerous, extremely dangerous for some who are not paying attention to surroundings. Potential robberies and injuries. Perhaps worse because we all know someones gonna be driving while playing, etc.
*Substantial data usage as of now
*Heavy battery drain at the time as well. If youre making a long trip and intend to play on the way, might want to bring chargers and energy banks.
*Taking over gyms is pretty easy because you can spam attacks Versus the AI of a pokemon left there by the original champ.
*If youre not by a good strip of pokestops you're highly disadvantaged. Some players may actually live within the radius and can then collect every 5 minutes all day long.
*The privacy agreement, pretty liberal. From what I gather they can share all the information they request with the government for no reason.

Pros:
*Lots of bonding happening, between family members as well.
*its fun not just for kids.
*Exercise
*People are getting out more, including those with mental illnesses such as PTSD, and depression.
*They will improve it most likely (It's practically in beta at this time)

This is what it looks like.
Picture 1: (left side) is the general neighborhood view. The many blue spots are where they can go grab a few free items every 5 minutes, including pokeballs, .
Picture 2: One of many occurrences where one will see a pokemon near by. When you tap on this pokemon then you will see it in picture 3
Picture 3: Time to throw some pokeballs and try to catch this guy. Notice he is on the grass near a sidewalk. That is the augmented reality, because this grass and sidewalk are real, while the pokemon is not real (allegedly)  . Some have been found in toilets, on strippers, and generally all over the place! I hope not the road!

Isn't there an age restriction of sorts? To prevent any accidents from happening.

Pokemon go uses the data bank of the game 'ingress'.

In ingress people claim territory for their team by gps. They mark their territory with a recognisable point in the area which gets marked on the map. This can be a church but also a statue etc

Well it seems none of us really play. I tried. I am not saying its not fun but I am an all or nothing type of player and I just can't see myself putting in minimum an hour a day walking around playing pokemon in the neighborhood.

I just ordered DOOM anyways ;d

I've yet to see it's appeal, but for some reason everyone around seems to be playing it.

Catching pokemans that don't really do anything doesn't intrest you?
Damn casual.

You are obviously underestimating the game. It's but to collect them using augmented reality. One could say it is similar to the trend in America in 20th century by collecting them baseball cards.

It's fun for me and my friends....for now.

Why it's fun? It tickles that nestolgia bone. It's just the 150 original Pokemon which is what I grew up with. I see more young adults, people in their twenties like me playing this more than kids. My friends and I will go bar hopping while catching Pokemon. There's pokestops every 5 ft downtown!

What sucks about it is the battling. It's going to lose its appeal as soon as I "catch em all" or once they start filling in the 4th,5th,6th gen Pokemon.

I don't look at it so much as a game. Like I won't have the app out for more than a min or two. It's more of a scavenger hunt

This app looks very interesting and almost all my friends are playing it (which is quite incredible) but it has two major issues for me:

1) Although my device fulfills the requirements, it does not start (blackscreen crash always I try to run it, before the logo or anything else loads)
2) It needs to activate data to work properly. Wi-Fi should be everywhere in the 21st century.

Nevertheless it is quite scary how many players the game was able to get, even as it is not officially available in many countries yet. I don't remember any games which became so popular so quickly. At least in my country it's totally everywhere: drink shops and mobile operators offer special actions, it appeared even in TV news!

My concerns are
1. The lack of Pokemon. I do not care about those who only grew up with the first 150. There are over 700 now. I want more of those. A lot of the original 150 does not appeal to me anymore.
2. The battle system is too much apart from the original games, and I dont see the idea behind it.
3. Evolution is too weird? Why should I catch the same pokemon over and over to evovle one? I do not like it.
4. The motivation with just walking around and catching pokemon does not work for me. I need something more story based or a quest; something to complete (besides the pokedex)
5. The game crashes - Just annoying..
6. The graphics is not that cool. I like the Pokemon graphics though!

I really love the whole concept of the game. I just wish it was more like the games on 3DS .. I am not sure why they went a totally different way.

(Omg I sound like one of those "The book is better then the film".)

The idea looks interesting, but I don't own a smartphone and I pour enough time into ESO not to want another game devouring all my free time.

If the pokestops reloaded every say.... 2 hours with more snow, instead of 5 minutes with not even a handful of items, you would catch me out there most likely. I am not transporting a mile down town to make a few 5 minute pick ups but 2 hours worth? I may hit it several times per week.

2 hours might not work, I don't know what would work for everyone but I know this 5 minute reload on pokestops systems doesnt work for my area very well.

Not playing but I have at least some slight interest and I ran upon this list of various pokemons max CP.

Good to know (Max CP of these pokemons)

And this guy who got stabbed playing refuses medical treatment
Quote:

He initially refused treatment when police arrived at the scene, electing to keep on playing the game instead, the report stated.

Baker eventually received medical attention for the wound, which resulted in eight stitches. He told the station that while he intends to be more cautious when playing the popular smartphone app in the future, he will continue his mission to be the best “Pokemon Go” player.

“It’s important to me. I’ve got to basically catch them all,” he said.

I think the game as an idea is fun. However the execution falls short on many ways. I tried the game when taking a walk with my dog. Caught about 25-30 pokemon, however 15 of those were drowsees... and rest were pidgey(?) or rattataa(?).
It's the same pokemon literally everywhere in my town to the point I didn't want to waste pokeballs to catch the drowsees seeing I had maxed out and evolved the thing as much as my player level allowed. Another problem with the pokemon I feel is the location, I don't generally want to walk around areas with high traffic with my dog, but rather less populated and greener areas making the game rather counter intuitive as people seem to just sit by or walk around the same small areas rather than actually walking around town.

As for pokestops, I really think they should only provide extra stuff like potions, rasberrys and whatnot, but not pokeballs. The only pokestop in about 1km from where I live is at a kindergarden and elementary school, not really a place where guy of my age wants to be seen at.

I also feel your location makes too big advantage in game like this if you try to compete with others. Some may live in area with regular strong pokemon while others will never see them. Some will live by pokestops and have unlimited items essentially.

Overall I think it's borderline genius idea, but at least where I live the execution is just plain terrible(hopefully it works much better where you live). I really hope the company will bring some actual social interactions to the game also like trading pokemon/items and battling other trainers directly. Some real instruction inside the game would be nice too rather than leaving player to learn most things by themselves. I do think this game could turn into something great in time.
