regarding to half dwarven origin...
ya know, sex is not the only answer in fantasy worlds. from what i get, they do not try to explain everything, which is acctually a good thing when you think about it. all those tryhard lore, all those long wall of texts had many downside effects on game... causing "no mystery" to be left around, is only one of those. mystery is a good element. as players, we are also happy when we use some of our own imagination. i like filling those blank spaces with my imagination, dont you guys do that too? its very positive if devs finally understand "not filling every space" philosophy..

regarding to negativity, ffs please stop laughing at everything, keep it at a safe level. being overtoxic is same as being "enemy" to developers and potentially newcomers.

To reply some people that think it's the communities fault for the state the franchise is in. You make some good points, that I won't deny. I can understand your attitude, the atmosphere on this board is mortyfing and it's not a healthy place for an "outsider" to lurk in. But:

I've pointed it out many times already. At this point this franchise is better off dead. I don't play H7, it's dead in my eyes anyway, but when it's finally official it will hurt my heart, but soothe my conscience. No, it's not good to make them keep this franchise alive 'artificially', and for the community to try and 'make things better' with constructive input. It won't help at this point, it's too late, it's a waste of time with the team behind the games...

I'm a rather semi-active user of this forum. I'm not in the 'supporters' ranks, I don't know what's going on behind the curtains, I can only see some general happenings through observation. And through my observation I can see how badly the community was mistreated by Ubilimbic. I've seen Limbic guys who claimed being fans of the series and make mistakes so bad, that it wasn't even funny. It was disrespectful to not even have the willingness to catch-up to some things you don't know and only reply afterwards. It's not a live debate! It's a forum and you can take all the time you need to write a post. When people were becoming jumpy Limbic guys turned their tails and run (or even banned some posts on their official forums).

I've seen the pre-H7 optimism slowly decline when more and more guys like Stevie or Galaad turned from people who 'patted' Erwins back (cause they've trusted him, correct me if I'm wrong ) into people who despise the team (of course reason for this is fully justifible). I've even seen people who were somewhat recruited by Limbic post release to do some stuff only to go down the same road (it's kind of tragic when I see people who were giving positive feedback in this of sea of hate only to join the haters ranks afterwards). I've seen people wanting to help them in the development process, but they were turned down. Coincidence? I don't think so. Those guys are doing s*it job, but they're doing an even more sh*ttier job in (not)trying to make things right.

Nobody (I hope?) likes it when their bad prophecies turn into reality, but after H6 I knew deep down it was not possible for this team to make a good Heroes game. Other tried to be optimistic, but I turned down the game at an early stage. I tried it of course, if only to confirm what I 'knew' from the beggining.

At the end of the day, they've got what they deserved. Heroes 7 was a major flop, so Ubi won't be forgiving. And that's for the best...

PS: We can survive on mods

@verriker:

I'll be honest, I surely didn't follow the whole question in details as you did. I was here when HOMM6 was out and I've seen many users (Elvin comes to mind for the most, but there were others) trying to reason with Ubi and Erwin who just failed to listen, or even admit the terrible disappointment HOMM6 was becoming. At that point I was 100% on the fanbase's side.

I returned years later and the atmosphere seems heavily different and you could make a whole new section calling it "Bash Ashan in this Room" and it'd probably be the most crowded room of the community.

As I say below, answering to blob2, I understand why it is so. But it still doesn't help, nor does it make this community that pleasant to invest time into.

sidenote-that-is-not-much-of-a-sidenote (aka ABOUT LORE):

yeah I was overesimplifying; I didn't meant the Ancients "created" things like the Wizards of House Chimera did, of course. But still, pretty much everything that walks the soil of Enroth can be traced down to either the Ancients or the Kreegans and their space-traveling warfare, just as much as most things in Ashan are related either to dragons or to wizards. I admit I didn't know the Elemental Lords created Enroth, though, nice touch.

But the point I was trying to make was different. I was trying to say that people who criticizes the lore are pretty much biased and focuses on the wrong things. In many ways, the "fans vs Lore" debate parallels the "fans vs latest releases" scheme.

In my example, they complain that everything originates from dragon or wizards, whereas saying that everything originates from two space-faring elder races can be more likeable (I do like it more, for starters) but it's not necessarily better narratively wise and, as I tried to point out, not so much different. Other examples can be made.... ripping ideas from World of Warcraft sucks for sure, but keep in mind HOMM3 ripped a lot from D&D (which ripped a lot from JRR Tolkien etc). And yet again, taking inspiration from Warcraft can be bad, but when the desigers go for something a tiny bit more original (like egyptian undeads, mayan orcs, lovecraftian demons, arabic wizards) they are mocked nonetheless. And, yes, one may dislike a faction themed around elves, but it doesn't mean that a faction of random creatures from forests is inherently better.

...in short, people criticize Ashan because they wanted to keep Axeoth (and what came before it). But the reason Ashan sucks is not that it isn't Axeoth, is that it objectively sucks. It's not about nostalgia and conservative minds, it's about bad products being bad.

Almost everyone in Ashan is unbelievably stupid and poorly charaterized; Isabel, the debut main lead in the new Lore, is one of the worst written characters I ever seen in fantasy fiction, most comprimaries are a joke (Wulfstan), the dialogues are a pain to read (Irina and the nagas), most people have no motivations or are entirely identified by the faction they belong to (Arantir), antagonists deserve no comment at all (Michael, Kha-Beleth) they are so flat they make Dictator Koopa from Supermario Bros. the Movie seem like a well done character. Governments act stupidly, factions act stupidly, entire races act stupidly and even the supposed "gods" in that lore are somewhat irresponsibile, vainglorious jerks. I've never seen something that struggles so desperately to give you reasons to hate it and dislike its characters. And Ashan came after Heroes 4 with campaigns like Gauldoth's and Emilia's, amazing stories both of whom could eat most of Ashan's plot for breakfast. NO ONE forced them to perform such craptacular writhing, nor it was mandatory after inventing a new lore setting. It's just them not knowing how to make a good game with a good story.

All of this will fade like tears in the rain, because it's so easy to look at you guys and say you just want your pretty Axeoth back. Which is the excuse the writers use to absolve themselves.

@blob2:

I don't think the fans are to blame for the state of the franchise. That would be idiotic. Even if the fans were wrong 100% of the times and the devs listened to the fans as if it was gospel, and that was the only reason the game had problems, it would be still the devs fault for listening to wrong advices and ideas. And in this case it's exactly the opposite.

I am merely saying that the fans aren't contributing that much in averting the course, and on the opposite are radiating the impression that they are extremely adverse to change, stubbornly negative and extremely likely to diminish over the years. Which knowing Ubisoft meanst just that they will release games for as long as they can milk fans, not caring in the slightest if the games are broken or crappy, and wait for the fanbase to die.

Of course I understand that remaining positive and constructive when you are constantly disregarded and insulted is hard. I understand that there is comfort in sharing the disappointment and negativity with others. But still it's not helping. A post like the original post here is not helping. It just ends up making the devs seem more legit than they really should.

Well, that goes back to the debate we just had.

You see, this is exactly why I'd like the fandom to appear more reasonable, clear-minded and objective. It's pretty clear that Ubisoft won't listen to anything no matter what you say or how seriously you say it but, it is also crystal clear from how they are treating HOMM7 that they are a step away from just letting it die.

And what does it have to do with us fans? Well, if the fandom appears  passionate, strong, affectionate and is able to convey a distinct sense of what went wrong with Ubisoft's HOMM then someone might come, buy M&M rights from Ubi and try rebooting the franchise. If on the opposite the general, public perception is that we are a bunch of conservative whiners, then the public perception will also conclude that the HOMM series is simply a hot potato no one wants; and after the (apparent)innocent Ubi and Erwin already scorched their hands with it, no one will want the hot potato indeed.

I may be overanalyzing, mind you. I just have an hard time thinking everyone'll just let an intellectual property die. Nowadays, old and well respected franchises are a valued thing indeed.

Can't they conclude their game is *Hamsterly bad* on a design perspective?
