Recommendations for a HOMM3 fan?

HOMM3 is my favorite, specifically the original, un-modded game with the SOD and AB add-ons.

It's also one of the few HOMMs I've ever played.

Of all the other HOMMs out there (or even non-HOMMs, if you can think of one) which game do you think more closely recaptures the HOMM3 feel?

(And before anyone starts groaning, don't worry, this isn't another "Which game is best?" thread.  I'm only asking which game has the most similar mechanics.  I love HOMM4, for example, but that game is definitely an animal all its own.)

HoMM I and II are very good games too. Its te same gameplay. If you like III you like both of them. I like HIV very much too. Because its another viev.

HoMM 2 have almost the same gameplay of HoMM 3 but much more simplified. If you want to amplify HoMM 3 experience you should give a try to HoTA since it improves and expand HoMM3 without twist its mechanics.

I would recommend trying out H2 even though it is quite outdated. On the other hand, the music is very good, especially one battle theme is the best in the whole Heroes-series all time! In addition, sound effects are funny and the AI is hilariously stupid . And maybe it will give you some insight for H3 campaign story
