Best hero class in H3 HotA

Hello guys,

I have been thinking about the best hero class in HOMM3

Generally, it seems like it will be might class hero.

The factors will be: 1-) primary skills, 2-) secondary skills  3-) starting skills + specialty.

However, since specialty and starting skills can vary a lot, and can also be edited from map editor, maybe we can ignore that third factor

I found there to be  a number of candidates. First of all, I decided the important Secondary skills to be:
Logistics, Tactics, Wisdom, Watermagic, Air, Earth, Armorer, Offense, and warfare skill (balistics + arti + first aid all from wog)

Here are my best candidates, along with some of their adv. disadv.

Barbarians: high % to learn most of those important SS. they only have 2 flaws: they cannot learn water magic, and it is not very easy to get Logistics with them

Overlords: very similar to barbs. No water magic as well. diffrence is, logistic have slightly higher chance, Tactics too, with a little bit lower on offense. I think Tactics is better than  offense. However, I still think barbs are better for having stronger primary skills.

Demoniacs: very high chance to learn logistics, armroer, as well as offense. They can also learn water magic. Still, very low chance for water magic, and tactics chance is lower than both barbs and overlords.

Battle mages: have good chances to learn any wanted magics and wisdom as well as logistics. However, they have relatively low chances to learn combat skills (4% armorer, 5% tactics). this is ok, but their primary skills are also not (too much in power and knowledge).

beastmasters: slightly lower chances than barbs to learn good skills (only 5 offense, 6 tactics compared to 6 armorer and 8 tactics for barbs). However, better chance to get logistics and also good chance for water magic, so far they seem to be the best.

knights: good chance to learn offense tactics, although not the best for logistics. can also learn water earth and air magics. their only flaw is starting with leadership and 5% armoer + logistic. still very good (since we can change starting skills)

planeswalkers: good chances to learn offense, tactics, logistics, and all magics. only flaw is armorer being 5% and primary skills slightly worse than beast masters (also, all of them specialized in troops). Still I think they are generally better than beastmasters (execluding tazar)

what do you think?

also, while we are at it, is it possible to create new hero class? and to create new probabilities for it to learn certain skills?

Edit: and I also forgot to check HotA heroes, some of them might be better (pirates and navigators)

Edit: ok I took a look at them at game documentation. they seem to be worse than those listed above (even worse than alchemists and rangers who I thought not worth mentioning
only 2% armorer and 6% logists, 6% tactics% good thing is 9% archery. archery can sometimes be useful but since I am fortress player I dont use it)

This is double edged. One can say it is an advantage because it greatly increases chances of earth magic, by eliminating one magic school from pool. But also is very false, as there are a ton of ways to get a skill outside the level up. If you want water for your barbarian and know how to play, only extreme bad luck will prevent you from acquiring it.

well, for me air is most important, while earth and water are nearly the same (cuz slow is banned in battle on the seven seas, so magic schools balance out)

as for learning water magic for barbs??? what are the chances to get scholar water mage or witch hut water mage? or is there another trick I am not aware of? I think that even uni cannot teach barbarians how to water magic

what do you mean only extreme bad luck  I only learned water magic once in my life as barbarin -___-

Edit: actually is there thread discussing techniques to level up SS?

I don't know about best, there's just too many factors to consider, and they may be good for some ocasions and bad for others. But... if i had to pick one of the list i would probably say overlord. They can have a pretty good offensive along with decent spells from the native castle.

Death Knight hands down.

Barbarian surely second.

Planeswalkers are quite good, logistic skill hero, fast access to magic schools, overall good specials and starting skills combared to other town heroes.

For HotA there is this one Navigation specialist who masters clone spell what gives additional cloned creatures on the first turn. Very powerfull, I have played some games with it. As a class Pirate heroes seems average.

I think Captian only loses for barbarian, even if I don't see how it can be easy even in single player to get Water for a barbarian, if he is your main. If is not, yeah you can save a slot for weeks until you find the right place but no one who knows how to play would compromise actual main progress for long to pick a secondary skill, even if you have to replace him after.
The thing with Captians is not the primary skill distribution, that is far from good with too much points going for SP but the adequate sec skills they all start with and the facitlity with wich the ones you want appear. It happened to me more then once to have Corkes or Jeremy screwed as mains but it also happened to have a level eight Cassiopeia with the eight slots filled. Plus, if you play with Diplomacy they are one of the classes that get it easier.

Bah, nonsense. Every hero can learn wanted skills quite easily. The percentages how much you get att/def in level ups is more important than percentages on skills, you get offense, wisdom, two magic, archery if town requires it and armored easily. The fact that does the hero start with Logistic or Diplomancy at start does make a difference, Rampart Ranger heroes have both btw, still don't consider them as best class, rather good starting heroes.

The best might class would be the barbarian. Even if it happens to be low on defense it's attack makes up for it, and I think that focusing on attack is a bit better than on defence.

The best magic, well, Warlock. It has the most SP advancement, and the dungeon mage guild is very likely to give good spells, like armagaddon and stuff.

Barbarians attack is the highest and defense is still high, lowest magic atribute gain from all classes ( I think anyway )

Tied with Beastmasters for the worst magic. Beastmasters are even more obsessed with Defense than Barbarians with Attack (60%).

High Attack is better than high Defense. Defense gives opponent more time to use magic (you neglected by taking a might hero).

The thing is defense also gives more time to those tricks creatures from Fortress have to take effect. Barbarians on the contrary have a creatures that attacks twice and another that may kind off but have nothing like paralize, dispel+weakness, poison and deathstare. If they don't do large amounts of damage in the beginnig of the match (and they are slow) they have nothing comparable to Fortress. Just look at the most terrifing habilities of the two towns, they both work better the stronger the target is but while Ignores deffense previligies one single blow that wares off most of the stack, deathstare (like accurate shot) priviligies the capacity to kill based on the numbers of creatures in the stack instead of the damage they were able to do. Sixty moos almost can't finnish a single azure or crystal but if that thing triggers...

Someone don't respect Tazar. He  is a way batter hero than Crag Hack or any might hero. Second are logistics heroes. Armorer work on every stack were Offense give more dmg to non-shooters. Fortress is faster than Stronghold. Tazar is excellent for small and medium maps where you count every unit. You can check videos how strong are armorer heroes in late game.

No, Tazar is not a better hero, this is like saying a boxer which knows how to dodge is better than a boxer which strikes harder. In all cases, the optimal defense is being offensive and attacking, not taking hits. All good strategies imply you avoid being hit. And for this you have to kill fast, so more offensive ability, better the hero is.

Not including extreme rare situations where the map is custom and Tazar goes up to insane levels where hitting his army is like hitting a wall. This is just for fun, it never occurs in two players game.

Let's not start another Tazar vs Hack war.

I think the best hero class depends on the race you are playing. Since I play tower a lot, I go with rangers most of the time. There are several heros with amazing skills/specials, and for tower water is more useful than air. With races that have high initiative I would prefer an overlord, I'm not a big fan of barbarians, they tend to suffer too many losses early.
