No longer about HotA, now about TEW2 drama and misery :D

Quick one: I was playing the Empire of the World II on HotA (because I really like HotA...) and suddenly I've realized that the game assumes I have Town Portal. Which I didn't. I had the book of Earth though. Checked in SoD - the spell is sure present. In HotA it seems banning the spell globally also removes it from the spell tomes. In SoD it doesn't.

So it's one of the tricky HotA changes, it seems, which may make some maps sadly unplayable/working not as intended.

Of course I'm not out to tell HotA guys how to make their addon, but I'd like to ask what other similar changes are there which could kill the ability to play some maps? And do you know of other maps that get rekt by HotA?

I'm a little sad, because HotA introduces some nice Ease of Use improvements I prefer to play with

Hota is incompatible with custom maps using tomes. They decided is a smart move to change the rules.

There is also an ERA version of TEW2 at mapsforheroes, which is not bad because I did it.

I assume there's no mod to reverse this change? Are there other changes done too that ruin custom maps? :< Quite a shame.

I didn't go for the WoG version of the map because I saw the WoG EoW (III?) on screenshots and what I saw scared me. It looked like some whole other game IIRC, not even like H3 somehow... But I'm guessing the WoG-friendly n0. 2 is not like that then.

Also, I have a sucky issue with Era not playing nice with HD mod. I don't know why, but many of HD mod's options just don't work with my Era which is really sad since the troop splitting/artifact management and some others are just SO convenient now it's a pain to play without them now that I tasted them D: Anything I can do about that?

All those work with Era. I play with HD mod too. Try to change in options.

Hm, I don't know what's up with mine then. I can use the troop splitting, indeed, but only on the map screen. I cannot do it on hero screen. Also no backpack or improved hero trading screen. Checked the quest log - also old version. And importantly no combat retry button I don't know how to fix it.

In HotA 1.4.2 this feature is active only for HotA format maps, so there is no problem with original SoD(/AB/RoE) maps. Of course, if you don't open and save map in HotA edtior, converting it to HotA format.

This change was done to completely remove water spells from RMG without water, but not remove tome of water from it. But then it was reverted for RoE/AB/SoD maps.

HotA has many gameplay changes, so compatibility with old maps is not guaranteed. Problems are usually only with hard tricky maps, not with usual ones.

The most breaking feature is changing Fly/WW/DD mechanics so that you cannot steal things near guards with it (and cannot step on trigger without landing on free cell). But all other features like adding new artifacts and heroes, nerfing necromancy, improving magog splash, fixing gameplay bugs also may be critical for specific maps. You can read gameplay change description here: http://h3hota.com/documentation/en/game

Probably once we'll make all gameplay features (except, probably, bug fixes) disabled for RoE/AB/SoD maps. But it i not easy and probably won't be soon.

Thanks for the codes, Salamandre Appreciated.

And Sav, that's very good to know. I did in fact resave the map in HotA after changing the heroes' portrait My bad then, but now I know!
I'm actually a big fan of the new way Gog splash works and, if Faerie dragon spell-casting is also sponsored by Hota, a big fan of that too. And the dwellings accumulating creatures (I've been playing on WoG/Era for a long-ass time, so used to that).
I'll keep the fly/DD in mind, but I don't play those super fancy Chinese maps so normally I should be rather safe. I mean, I've played a bunch of custom maps on HotA so far and haven't noticed something was wrong so far

Then again, I'm not the best at noticing stuff like that. I've played one fun map for H4 on Equilibris wondering why are some fights so damn hard/RNG based and why people say they're easy. After I got seriously stumped I found out Equilibris causes monster stacks to split so the fancy debuff mechanics that were meant to be the very point of the encounters didn't work (obviously) on all of the enemies. Genius
[but all the heroic-mode victories before that were mine, hah]

Since this topic went off-topic anyway, I'll ask here:

I have a brand new problem with ERA. I've copy/pasted those settings (aside of graphics, since that blocked my ability to maximize the window which I can't deal with But it's all good with leaving that section as default). HMS and stuff works really nice

But I can't seem to get some of the mods I downloaded to work. Some others do, so I can't be doing everything wrong (using the manager).

I can't seem to get:
- Neutrals Split
- Advanced Battle Hints
- Mad Advanced Infos

And come to think of it a bunch more doesn't work fully, so I am derping somewhere strongly. For instance "Rename Town" creates the color buttons, but doesn't actually let me rename towns.

But stuff like Safe SoD, or Morn Battlefields etc work just fine.

Also while I'm at it - the higher in the Mod Manager the later it loads, right? WoG Plus should be on the top with WoG Revised underneath it?

Thanks.

Dude, no offense but in this area you must also use a minimum your brain. :)

Is not that hard, look in the settings I gave you:

<Graphics.Resolution> = 800x600

Which means, I, Salamandre, use this resolution. So of course it won't let you change, this is why you must modify that value to fit what you want, is so simple as that, those settings are not in stone, but customizable.

Same for other settings, change them as you like. The first time is a bit long (a few minutes) but once you get them ok, they remain that way and compatible with Vanilla, Era and Hota at same time.

As for mods, I don't recommend WoG plus as Mazaczeck made a mess with it, adding extra features from other mods on a weekly rate, thus increasing bugs. Then all those mods should be installed while WoG mod is at the very bottom, then:

If new game should be ok
If saved game then Press F12 to tell game you installed new mods so it has to load them

Good luck.

Oy, I do use brain! I saw the resolution, but the thing is, I DO use a small resolution (slightly bigger, but nowhere near as big as my native screen one).
It just that with those settings the "maximize" button is grayed out. It's one of the other settings that blocks it, but I simply used defaults for that and placed the resolution I liked in the resolution part.

Thanks for the WoG Plus warning, I'll scrap it.

But you're not using WoG Revised I see? I thought it was one of the more vital mods?

Actually, I had to use F12 on a new game as well (no clue), but after that it worked. So thanks a bunch

If SoD mod is enabled, no need of WoG revised. SoD blocks almost all wog scripts.

I see.

Well, I started playing the ERA Edition of the TEW2 map, and I have a question and a problem.

Question: is it intended for all neutral creatures to be on the highest experience level since day 1? If so, then it's not intended to play on harder battle difficulty than easy in the early stages, is it?

Problem: I don't know how to do the Commander Helmet trick to work. I thought it was because I was using the default "Secondary Skills Scrolling" mod, but without it I don't get a free slot either

Mini additional question: do I absolutely *have* to part with my Armor of the Damned? ;< As in, are there some scripts relying on this quest or is it just to make life for Maximus easier?

Before starting map, load tew2.dat file as WoG options, is located in mod's data folder. Then just play, all is tested to offer optimal challenge. If sometimes you think is too easy, raise the difficulty.

Ah, and don't use secondary skills scrolling mod if you want to learn all skills, it wont you let get a free slot.

I have it loaded from before starting the map, of course, but the unlimited skills still don't seem to work

I tried to test the helmet with that seer's hut, but first aid is pushed into the 'hidden' skills during leveling so removing the helmet just reduces hidden skills from 3 to 2.

Hm, I did everything like in the video, I can make First Aid appear on the first slot, but only until I close the inventory.

If I take off the helmet and close, the next I open it another skill takes place of First Aid.

If I leave the helmet on and close, First Aid goes back to hidden skills tab upon reopening.

I've no idea why it's shoving it back in

These are all the mods I have active at this moment, maybe I'm being a moron and something here is wrong?

In mod manager, right click on wog mod then select plugins. Scroll down, the no secondary skills limit.bin should be ON, is it?

Then another thing, do you test on a saved game or new game? Because after disabling no secondary skills scrolling, you must press F12 (after reloading game) to enable new scripts configuration.

If both issues above ok and still not working, upload your saved game, I will find the reason.

@Edit: also I would disable Usain Bolt, this map wasn't tested with, so if you travel much more, battles may be impossible because too early. Up to you to take the risk.
