Alas, I'm also getting the bug where I cannot upgrade the Praetorians with Mithril

I saw some folk have it on the maps4heroes site, is there a solution to this? I'm crashing both in HD and normal (checked just in case).

Replace same file in taw2/data/s with THIS ONE, then F12 after reloading save. Should work now, the only backside is that dialog will not update as soon as you click, not big deal.

Do right-click then "Save As" when downloading the file above.

Also can you upload your save just before using mithril (and crash)? I need for debug, thanks.

Works with this and also updates the icon immediately for me. Thanks!

No problem, is only the crash which bothers me, as everyone crashes on that dialogue but when I test it on my system, all is fine.

That's strange since with this new file it works like a charm. I'm on Windows 10 64bit if it makes a difference.

yeah just loaded it, and no crash. It kills me. The save is before you apply the patch (press F12), right?

A question, please. When you click on special buttons to find the monster of the training hall AND adventure cave, which monster it shows in both? (should be 3 portraits)

Yes, it's from before I even swapped the file.

For adventure cave it shows me Lords of Thunder, Antichrists, Lords of Thunder.

For challenge hall it doesn't show me monsters, just says I can go and improve marksmen. It's like a pickable option, but nothing happens when I pick it. Am I checking in the wrong place perhaps? But it showed portraits for adventure cave there.

Speaking of, I didn't see if it's mentioned in the warnings (if I missed it, sorry), but if not, it might be worth adding to NOT click on petrified commander in Tactics phase in the training hall. It crashes the game for me but I can just not click him and it's okay.

What's not as okay, is that I'm getting my ass handed to me by Nagash... badly! D: Force Field is inaccessible in this map it seems, and without it, I'm not sure how I can win with his 99 of all stats and vampires being fast even on slow. Any hints?
It's kinda impossible to kite them with anything since Nagash just hastes them and also there's SO many of them and I do SO little damage it would take beyond forever even if it was possible (unlikely with the general speed they get from being trained) ;<

All in all I love what you've done with the map, breath of fresh air. But yeah, vampire apocalypse!

Not even funny

I don't know how to play this well, thought this map would be more forgiving, the original was really easy, no rush And even on maps when I do my best and rush as fast as I can I'm always miiiiles behind whatever your screenshots show lol.

I'd say teach me master, but I'm sure you've better things to do haha. I'll go drown my defeat in a plate of fried chicken.

Had fun while it lasted though, fun changes, fun scripts (and not overdone to make the game not feel like HoMM3 which is perfect amount for me). If you need some more debugging let me know, happy to help.

Well, the reason I modified this map is to offer a decent challenge, as the original was a cake walk.

But hey, Era is great, you even have a Trainer at wakeofgods.org/mods which you can activate while in game, change armies, stats and everything./

Thus any battle is now doable, for those who desire just have fun.

I never use trainers aside of fixing bugs/testing things, in any game. Fun evaporates.

I dislike cakewalk maps (and I'm good enough at the game so that the vanilla/similar maps are a breeze to go through without losing a single unit oftentimes) but I'm also not good enough for the challenging ones. Such limbo, man, such limbo!

I defeated Nagash with your archangels (dismissed the rest of the army, they do a total 0 in comparison lol). Guess there's that xD

Please, someone helped me with a fix, can I ask you a few minutes to test so I can see if ok?

ERM file, place it in tew2/data/s (move the old to desktop so you can revert later if patch does not work.)

your saved game where it crashed

Patch to apply *place this file in WoG mod/Era plugins/AfterWoG subfolder. Before reloading game, right click in mod manager on WoG mod and make sure this patch (UpdateHint.bin) is activated.

In game, F12 then do action as you did before the crash. Then tell me if it crashes again. Thanks, it will help me

Replaced the files and the rest of the steps, nothing crashed for me and the skill appeared normally, so it appears to be working

***
I've given the map another go, did eeeeeverything I could, and I checked where I'm at - and I've concluded I have absolutely 0 clue how to get to where your Nagash save is lol.

I'm 1 month before that encounter and I've estimated what my army would be in 4 weeks...

156 angels [vs 347 yours]

The rest is basically 50% of what you had

Not to mention you had 4 upgrades! How, lol? I'd maybe make it to the 2nd in this month... And they get more expensive each. I was >barely< able to defeat Arthur on 4-3-2 without losses, there's no way whatsoever I could do it on higher difficulty for the mithril...

Same goes for the other heroes, I lost like 20 griffins and maybe 10 champions all game, but I'm limited by mana (even with the spring), obviously, I cannot keep resurrecting by clones forever. Higher difficulty would give ridiculous amount of creatures.

I am so completely baffled how to have twice this army in this time and like, what, 900 [400+500] more mithril, I'm guessing? Since first one was 200 and second is 300.

It frustrates me so much that I don't know what I'm doing wrong but this time I rushed, didn't dally around and I'm still not even remoooootely close to where I should be xD

Gah!

Great, thanks. You can  keep this file then if you play the map, the script is complete.

About challenge, is hard to see without checking how you play, priorities etc. In general, maps on which I work or design will never require the player to go back or "wait" for more creatures. Everything is tested while you advance, always. Except obvious situations like early game when no town portal so you have to walk back.

I noticed also that you kept the armor of the damned. The quest was to give it when you are at -120000 experience and pass into the positive as soon. if player decides to keep it and ignores the seer hut, then that makes 120k experience to get while you have not a single skill.

Which may seriously slow your game. Week 4 I am already level 20, you were probably below 0 still because of that.

You're welcome, pleasure to help

* and back to my existential struggles... xD

I kept the armor again, but I did not let it slow me down - I didn't wait to take any fight a single day. Fights were probably more difficult, but then again the armor was like expert Earth with the slow.
Idk. The slow is just so helpful to me, but I did notice later that it stops to matter since everything seems to be immune to everything. I was actually swapping it for other artifacts on some fights.

I'm sorry I'm coming here to rant, but I'm really just so curious - you can take it as a compliment for the map, it's intriguing ^^

As for how I played/priorities...

-I prioritized getting the Portals of Glory + Castles ASAP since it's clear Angels are THE Thing, once I had enough resources I traded them in the post for gems and bought +1 growth (had to pay a little gold for it too though, mercury loves me, I got gems maybe once post-battle )
-Got the 2nd town on 2-2-3
-Killed Robin on 3-4-5, did the trial for Champions +1 damage, idk if worth, lost 7 Champions to that, but couldn't well avoid it, turned around with Waterwalk, got the TP, Tome of Earth
-Went for God of Water and then quickly to Brother Tuck
-4-3-1 got Prince John down, had to go back for the Mana Spring and then struggled to defeat Arthur on 4-3-2 (I did try to keep everything from coming out, but the Titans gave me a lot of grief, had to focus them on wait-attack-get out or they just rekt my AAs all the time)

And I think by that time I already had to be far far behind, but even walking around to complete objectives takes quite some time. I didn't spend any time waiting for creatures in the town, I >knew< Nagash was coming now

Went to Mongolia, but I had to actually return to my castle to visit the spring before fighting the Dwarf Lord (and pick up some more army while at it), because I could not do it with my normal mana pool without losing everything but AAs and some champions/marksmen But even though that's a big slow-down, it's not a 200 Archangels and 900 mithril slow-down so I'm 100% sure I messed up way earlier and that's why those battles were this hard to begin with

I packed up the 'break-point' saves in case you or someone else wanted to see what's up.

I will look into saves, thanks. I fought Robin on 3/1/1 so I only have 3 weeks advance on you, thats not big considering I played the map 10 times at least.

Also a player found a very good strategy and beat me to it, he picked the crown, returned back, got tome of earth and with resurrection now he attacked Robin on OUCH mode, thus get a 200 mithril bonus + a lot of resources. Which is doable, except that people return to get resurrect after Robin, so no choice but beat him on normal.

Yeah, I'm sure my pathing wasn't completely optimal when it came to when to go up for the marksmen pools or the border guards, but I tried to make haste the best I could.

That player though, sneaky I did consider going back for the book first with the help of a little hero chain (though had TP in mind moreso than resurrection), but it still seemed like too much of a slow down, didn't want to risk it.

Athough I had only about 180 mana points at that point, that's probably about 8 casts leaving a little mana for some blind or whatnot.

Look, there is ONE priority on custom maps, when you get intelligence (and my script makes sure you get it at level 5), next levels you prioritize the expertise of it. Is capital. Intelligence is best skill, after earth and can make huge difference in battle issues. At Robin I see you have only basic.

Same as at level 5

I don't think I got a chance to pick advanced Or maybe I greeded for some magic skill or something, could be, I know I really wanted to get ballistics before Robin. I like Intelligence a lot, but catapult was ruining all my plans last attempt I know I couldn't have gotten a choice of intelligence a lot later since I tend to prioritize it by force of habit though. Hmpf.

Dont need, I took care of everything. Robin town doesn't have citadel nor fort, then a scholar teaches you ballistic right after Robin, when attacking Tuck.
