...oh Well then, I trolled myself. But is it that scholar behind a bajillion of dragons? I think I skipped that, it looked too painful for my army to handle.

...actually looking at it with the memory of the later battles (ARTHUUURRRR >.< ) the dragons don't look that bad xD

***

Btw, is it intended that the towns say, for example, "pack" of dragons and it's a solid horde after attacking on the easiest mode?

Yes. Big armies cause bug in game, especially freeze. So I placed a generic army in every town, then its strength is recalculated in the moment you attack it, equation is bonus special hero (if any), number of weeks in the game, number of months and finally monster level (not same multiplications for level 7 as for level 1 for example)

And finally all this is recalculated following player difficulty choice.

Btw, you forgot quite important quest guard to open near Sherwood town. For several months now.

Oh, yes, I did! I opened it the first time around and totally n00bed out this time.

35 mithril and some gold, yes? Oh, and a hidden smelter too. Herp derp But that still wouldn't get me to even the 2nd angel upgrade in time

Sneaky with the army sizes... for a moment there I thought maybe some script got stuck for me and was giving me 'normal' difficulty AI heroes.

I think I found a bug that will just make me quit the map (and I was doing quite well too, I think, had my 3rd angel upgrade in month 5 and +5 growth bonus even ).

I've tried doing the battle with Wystan on Hard and though the bug stroke before, that's where it truly shines and after it messed up two about-to-be-successful attempts I just got disheartened.

The bug is related to clones - before that it applied to the clone spell where if I cast it on the angels when they were say near enemy First Aid Tent, the angels would sometimes disappear.

Now, with the clone ability it can devour my other units if they are in the vicinity of the angels at the start of a new turn. Sometimes the clones appear, sometimes they don't, and sometimes they eat my other units.

Once it also (randomly, didn't happen in other attempts) eat Wystan's wyvern stack and two wyvern stacks also sat on 3 hexes sharing one. I could kill/CC them separately, but the game crashed on me mid-fight and since there's no saving in the middle of a fight (is there? some magical way?), that's just a no go.

I defeated him on easy, because I had enough of it, and then in the event fight with undead a clone (automatic) spawned on my champions and devoured them. And while the undead fight is easy, I know it would happen in the harder ones as well and having to keep my angels with 6 hexes free in front of them always ranges from really hard (my units) to impossible (enemy units).

I know it's a WoG bug, not the map bug, I remember it happening before, but it's really visible at this stage of the game and I don't know how to deal with it. Clues would be great

Is not a wog bug, if you cast clone in vanilla but you are in battlefield corners, surrounded from every side, then your clone will go nowhere, and you main stack will vanish.

Is just that you must pay attention and not cast clone when you see that there may be such risk. And when clone is automatic, as here, make sure there is ALWAYS 2 hexes free near your creature. If there is only one hex, the clone will eat another creature standing there. Most often there is no problem, when that creature gets its turn, it can move and get out from under the clone.

But sometimes not. Its a matter of experience, now I rather know such situations so I get very rarely such bug.

If if can move then no problem and it does seem to be the case here, actually. Aside of the possible crash.

What I was afraid of was the old incarnation of this bug then, I guess. I remember vividly after a long fight on some map my stack of archangels hit by clone bug after battle turned into a stack of Santa Gremlins.

Another time, I got a stack of ballistas (unsure if this was also clone bug, super long ago). Truly bizarre, irreversible and I feared that's what would happen to the units here again but on an easy fight I let it slide just to check and they were fine.

By the way, I don't know if it's intended, but in TEW2 it turns out you can use 2 mithril to change the offered skill in the witch hut. So if you defeat the first hero on a hard or even normal mode you can get a ton of skills before you get your first experience level.

Off topic, but does any common mod feature SKILL banning ? Fly, Dimension Door might spoil your precioussss design and map topology. I think banning of skills like Pathfinding, Logistics, Navigation, Diplomacy, Necromancy etc should be common map editor feature - it totally makes sense. Some maps just don't have any sea so why Navigation ? Why should Pathfinding be learnable on a clear map ?

In case a hero starts with one of these skills, it should be rerolled into some other skill.

...it is. Just open tab "secondary skills". You can ban the skills and just ban the heroes who start with them.

And on topic - I think Tazar got bugged in my game (the earlier "scouty" one, not the one with a friend). Everything deals 1-3 damage to his troops. It would mean a stack of 1000+ angels would take about 50 turns to kill 1 hydra. Don't think that's how it's meant to be.

No, thats why is Tazar. He is level 114 thus a 100% in damage reduction. Equip Armageddon blade and show him who is the boss.

Beat him on Ouch

Armageddon is great, but honestly? A juicy early Fire Shield is nothing to scoff at either. Spared me a few dozen casts of Armageddon easily I think

Yes, or that, I said Blade because I didn't set fire shield to appear 100% in guilds.

All right, so I'm almost finished with the map (by Nero), but I wanted to ask a few questions while you might still be around today

1. What is the use of the 2000 mithril beside Nero? At that point most people will have their angels upgraded anyway, no? Is there some other use to mithril? I've played a slow game, I've arrived there in 12-2-6, but I have over 1700 surplus mithril at this point.

2. There's that hero that gives free 200 before, too, he's got 10 ghost dragons on ouch setting, is that intended?

3. What are the best-scores/best-times for this map that you know of? We might try to beat it in the other attempt!

4. Isn't Nero more difficult that Caesar?

And one thing is a shame (though a small one ) - there's no chart in-game to display what difficulty the enemies were beaten on. That could be fun to show off

The pile of 2000 mithril behind the last town are for the few people I know they will finish the map probably 10 times faster than me. Just in case, so they can complete the last battle.

I don't recall which hero with dragons. The one who leaves a fog of war trail when he moves?

For scores, I don't know. I don't think more than 10 people played the map until now.

Nero is probably more difficult than Caesar but I wanted special battle in the end, not regular. Just for the fun.

I see. That makes sense then

Hero was I believe Xsi (Lost Soul).

If Faerie Dragons get unlucky they can't cast any spells on the angels though since 1-3 are out of question.

What was your best, then? You're a really good player. And at what level did you defeat Nero and Caesar?

The Hell Hydras Ingham was quite painful, actually. Much more so than the Dragon Lord someone mentioned somewhere as being difficult.

Aw, I did not notice the ERA version of this map was so new, actually. I thought it was few years old! That explains why there's so few stats.

Well then I guess we shall simply have to do our best and see what comes off it! So far it's really fun to tryhard and figure out stuff together My friend's very ambitious when it comes to optimizing stuff and I managed to do that scout run to supply him with some hints and tactics as we go.

<I'm gonna keep this list updated for my sake so I don't forget what mode we got those snows down on>

So far we got:

- "The Guard" on Hard [strat: First Aid Tent]
- "Robin Hood" on Ouch [strat: Expert Blind + Tome of Earth shenanigans you shared here]
- "God of Water" on Hard [strat: Armor of the Damned + Commander's Paralyze [with wait-kite to utilize it without too much RNG-reliance] ]
- "Brother Tuck" on Hard [strat: nothing special, had Mithril Clones by then so it was rather simple]
- "Prince John" on Hard [strat: I don't remember, Arthur washed our brains, nothing special though, keep stuff in the castle]
- "King Arthur" on Hard [strat: anything from splitting griffins in a specific way, through teleporting stuff out in case of unpredicted issues, to killing proper amounts of proper things in proper time]

We're at Month 3, Week 1, Day 4 and Tuck just died.

Glad you enjoy the map. You may try the sequels after this one, Empire 3 and Empire 4, both at mapsforheroes. They are harder and more wogish -style.
