Left hand or the right?

Only curiosity I had was, Why did you not listen to your fans? I remember reading from here wishes to upcoming Heroes IV game. One poster made the usual, "want to see these creatures in the game" list. He wanted to see White Tigers in the game, now I tough that was a crazy idea when I read it. When, I played the game I was really suprised to see this creature in the game and connected the two dots, this must have been answer to some gamers wishes. Now, even tough Heroes 4 did not make very good on NWC and Heroes francise, we still respect what they have given us. Heroes 5 was a good game, if the makers would have been respectfull to their fans, none of this "we blame ubi/erwan" would not taken place or not at this scale anyway. I really felt Ubi respected the heart and soul of HoMM after the first game (and maybe they do, in some extence) but it's too late now, when you have shown "your true colors", not cool, sorry.

Well, pointing fingers and blaming is easy, but this is not why this Q&A thread was started

At least it is good to see that on Steam most people are asking valid questions and are genuinely interested in seeing the game improve.

all of these questions are valid questions IMO lol

that they are not all biased in favour of the developers, or the improvement of the game, does not mean they are invalid questions to ask,
for example, if a judge or a victim asks a criminal why he committed his crimes, that question isn't somehow invalid just because it doesn't massage the ego of the criminal or further his future crimes lol

Actually as SoilBurn says, this is not the purpose of this thread. I believe you should ask Ubisoft, not Limbic why they did not listen to feedback or so.

Also you would probably need to meet people working on the game personally (again) to ask them these questions because community managers usually cannot give you these answers.

Nobody really but that's the community developer's job. To communicate with the fans and pass questions to the relevant people.

With all respect, the only useful questions are the ones from Soilburn and Cortes.

The other ones are... Well, let's say these are the ones which have either been asked many times or which cannot be honestly answered.

If you're working for the company, you usually something went terribly wrong (it often does) but you cannot speak about it, you aren't allowed to or it is too complicated. Which answers would you expect? These questions are usually rhetorical.

I personally disagree with the statements about ignoring fans' feedback as I see many things to be slowly happening (even definitely not in the amountmand with the speed I wish).

I would be glad if this thread could be used as the one people come to with different questions about the game, its past, present or future, to make the communication between fans and devs even easier and faster - or among fans themselves.

With that said, I think that all questions are useful. They may have been asked too many times, but they were not answered.

If they cannot be honestly answered what does that say of the devs? They are not put on trial, all we want to know is why they did what they did.

And yes, we were ignored. They only started reconsidering after massive amounts of fanrage. Does that mean they will only pay attention if we start shouting? People had been shouting for months and would have probably never been aknowledged if the team did not want to sell an addon. You can't start an open dev initiative and then just clam up if things don't go your way. Not without criticism anyway.

What would you, Elvin, say if you were on their place? You cannot just come and say "Well, Ubisoft chased us and was terribly greedy, expecting high things for a little budget. Our main animator, for example, refused to continue in this terrible contract, that's why the councilors looked like as wax figures before 2.0. And now we want Ubisoft to continue working with us and pay us..."

Seriously, any time Limbic showed any effort to explain anything (I remember the  Skillwheel: Design philosophy article for example), they received even more hate and critics. Many people (and I'm not speaking personally about you, Elvin, or even not only about the people here, just generally) are hiding behind "we want answers" but they aren't interested in any things devs could say in fact, or they wouldn't be satissifed with any answer they could receive.

Speaking about the speed or reason why they have done the skillwheel changes or the other ones, sure I'm only guessing as you are but I don't think it was because of the addon. Ubisoft showed no marketing (or any other) effort to sell the expansion and it didn't even get the box edition. Many changes haven't been officially announced so it cannot be hidden behind marketing purposes. My personally estimation is that Limbic just needed some time to finish as many things as possible, as quickly as possible, according to their original plans because they did not have much time. Any changes could come later.

as I said, that is your opinion,
fair enough, if the agenda for the questions is to prop up the game and devs in a hugbox of sorts, but in my opinion critical questions can be valid questions too lol

it's not necessarily relevant whether they are willing to answer those questions, silence is an answer in itself, (although, by all means, if they have compelling answers I am happy to hear them out), but what matters most is that they are being asked lol

you didn't lay out your desired agenda at the start of this thread, other than to avoid "quite flamy" questions (i.e. keep it civil), and most of the questions are indeed civil lol

1) Those are in my opinion the memory (RAM) leak, the lack of gameplay balance (Magic, Warfare) and the (improved but still bad) AI. Is the dev team working on those 3 things and can we expect a solution in the future?

2) As proven by H5 TotE, a mediocre game can turn into a gem with enough care and expansions. Is there a willingness to keep supporting the game from a dev perspective or should we only expect bug fixes?

Pretty much these very questions, however I'm not in the mood for love toward Limbic. They've proved to be untrustworthy and above all uppity.

If the game's finally fixed on the technical side, I'd buy it. I'm not that kind of guy who enjoy criticize for the sake of it: in my humble opinion the smartest move from this point would be selling the franchise to a more competent developer... But since this option is highly unlikely, they should revamp H7 to the bone and retake H6 development.

My neat mind can't conceive of developing a project and then leave it to its fate, I guess.

I'd like to propose another question:

3) Would you improve H7's souless town screens? I recommend you to follow H6 example.

Personally I think that the things they did answer were mostly cop-outs, without addressing the real issue beneath it. People aren't stupid (well, not all of them anyway) and they can see when an answer actually raises more questions in return.

As you indicate yourself as well, they won't bite the hand that feeds them, nor are we entitled to everything that happens internally during the development of the game. I don't mean this in a technical way, but on a political level: the power play, the decisions that are - either in advance or in hindsight - awkward or detrimental and the persistence to stick with them. When people start to poke around there, they dodge the real answers because they feel we're either not entitled to the answers, or want to avoid the fire from reaching the barrel of gunpowder when it comes to stubborn behaviour, whether out of stupidity or someone going on an ego trip.

Me neither, but you cannot expect them to care (or even answer on a Steam thread) if you only throw hate at them. In my experience the "carrot-and-stick" approach works best.

Questions for H7 developers
If there are any people who are still interested in H7, who don't have a Steam account...
This for the people claiming that Antalyan did not make it clear what the purpose of the Q&A thread is for. He did so very clearly.
If you are not interested in the game, then please just start your own Steam thread with negative feedback about H7, and I am sure everyone (including myself) will chip in accordingly.

Why bother with that? If they are answering questions I would be far more interested in why the team went with the decisions that resulted in (mostly)negative player experience when there were strong indications(and even warnings) that this would happen. That is a very valid question for a team that might continue to make homm games. I am equally interested in what they understood from their actions and the feedback they received because for all we know they would repeat this fiasco(again, for most people) without understanding what went wrong in the first place. And as far as I have personally seen, they never showed any signs of understanding or any plans to adapt. And I do not mean plans that require investment, I mean plans that simple modders like lizard_warrior can implement for free.

Quite honestly, I don't see why a fan would NOT be interested in seeing those answers. Unless they have lost faith in the series and don't care one way or another.

So mate, maybe I'm not wrapping my head around this as I should, but what you're essentially saying is that we should avoid the important topics to keep the devs inside their comfort zone. So then what's the point of a Q&A?
