Greetings
I'm pretty much a "Heroes" veteran, I tried from 2 to 5.
First one was 3, then I got curious and went after 2. I think the fourth got released a time ago so I went to try it, but never made up my own opinion about it.
Seems that many people hate 4.
I then finally got to 5 and I loved it. I've played this one around 5 years ago or so, it's still my favourite Heroes series game.
When Heroes 6 got released, I had a feeling it will be bad simply by taking a look at the screenshots, but I don't judge fully until I get to try the game.
So, I went to try the game and all I could see was complete disappointment. The game didn't feel as smooth as Heroes 5, and I don't even mean that in terms of performance.
Now, I'm not saying Heroes 6 sucks because I'm a veteran or anything. I doubt I would even like Heroes 6 if I didn't play it before anyway.
Saw there was a Heroes 7, it was overloaded with negative reviews and now this website says that development for it came to an end.
Kinda sad, but it would have been extremely sadder if it was a GREAT Heroes game being developed. Doesn't seem like H7 was any good.
So, I'm back to Heroes 5 yet again. Such a great game!

Hi Iewu and welcome!
It's definitely my impression the boards here share your feelings about the newest additions to the series.
I've never played anything past HoMM 4 myself, but many members here are from the HoMM 5 era.
My own impression about the HoMM 6 & 7 troubles is that Ubi tried to make a best-ever out of each edition, and when they met too many difficulties, they never finished any of the games. Which to me feel a lot like HoMM 4 in a way, which is a game I also feel wasn't finished. In my opinion it's better to make a good game before anything else, once that is accomplished, one can aim higher.

I feel mostly the same as you do with regards to the various Heroes installments. TotE is probably the best Heroes for its features and mechanics, however imbalanced or crazy at times. Heroes 3 is just the timeless classic by now, the atmosphere and graphics and universe are a level above Ashan. Heroes 6 and 7 represent the decline of the franchise, nothing for certain in the foreseeable future.

Hi .
Heroes 5 is the best heroes from the series, of which I have played.
Still it is a highly unbalance in the multiplayer, but there is a lot of Mods that can make a good balance.

It's nice how the Heroes community still maintains some sort of tradition about "Do No Harm" on number differences.
Heroes 3 fans can easily cope with Heroes 5 fans, same with any number...Then it got kinda broke after 6 and 7, haven't see any diehard fan of Heroes 6 and 7 though, that's why I say "kinda broke", as I'm unaware if there's any kind of civil war between Number Fans.
Most of the times, today's communities are all about how the oldies are just nostalgic and should shut up as well as how the youngsters don't understand a damn thing about what makes an old game great ("Battlefield", "Pirates, Vikings & Knights", "Dark Souls", "BrainBread", etc).
Yep, this doesn't seem to happen here, everyone agrees what's good and bad about each game, that's great.

Also, short summary as to why I don't like Heroes 6 since I only said a very short vague opinion;
The game had an art-style that just felt OVER-fantasized. We all know Heroes was never realistic, it's fantasy, but it was never "beyond" that. We do have some stuff reminiscent of real life itself, such as the Peasants, Archers, Footmen, Cavaliers, Priests even...Yet, Heroes 6 seemed to be all about fantasy. This can be seen even on the very first unit of Heroes 6, some kind of "pikeman" with a shield. No problem if it were a simple pikeman which then could become a "Halberdier", just like in Heroes 3 itself, but what the heck? Sentinel and Praetorian? So they're not human but somewhat angelic-human?
And then, the campaign itself was rather boring. I didn't even understand a thing. Heroes 5 had it better, if a bit too dramatic at some parts.
Also, the map generation, even in campaign, just felt so boring. Somehow I can only remember a desert in Heroes 6, yet I'm very sure it was green...

I think you got the wrong impression. There's definitely diehard fans of H6 and H7 and there's definitely disagreement. You might be surprised but things aren't that clear cut with H3 and H5 fans either.

Most h3 fans who don't like or couldn't enjoy h5 is either because
a) 3D
b) AI turns
c) Art direction and/or lore
In terms of pure gameplay, I think there is a general consensus that 5 upgraded 3.

Hello and welcome. I will be playing Heroes 7 within the next couple of weeks assuming the installation is smooth with my computer. I hope to give a good review of it then,
I started playing HOMM 2. I was pretty much partial to it at first but, ended up hooked on 3 . Gelu training archers was awesome.

Welcome! Like you i prefer 3 and 5 the most. Fantastic games.
6 had some nice idea's in my opinion and i enjoyed playing it (here come the angry townfolk with theur torches....). But being forced to play it trough the conflux system ruined it for me.
If you did not yet: look in this forums for:
Homm 5.5 (fantastic mod with balances and new skills and better map generator and faster AI)
Heroes 3 horn of the abyss: new faction and campaign and lots of other cool stuff fir heroes 3!

Bytheway, just I recognised that Erza Scarlet and Sarah Kerrigan totaly looks the same?
