HOMM4

Anyway, away from the boring old topic of cheaters and honor council diputes etc and on to a happier one.
The thing I would most like to see in HOMM4 is a limit to the diplomacy skill, ie. you have to pay for all joiners, only a certain % of the army joins you etc. Maybe I've been a victim of this skill too much lately but it does seem grossly unfair sometimes.
   Isn't this a happier subject?
   Cheers

Diplomacy

Yes, it almost seems to be a bug that you can get joiners for free, it wasnt like this in homm2.  Perhaps it was a overlooked bug?  Kind of like how you can view your opponents castles' numbers on the day/month box...oversights that became homm3 gameplay.  Id say diplomacy can come back, but basically the skill level allows you to pay less as you are more skilled... but never for FREE!!!

joiners

actually i thought whether a group joined or not was dependent on both leadership and diplomacy skills and whether you have the same type of troops.

Have never been unable to understand this concept fully anyway. and would probably explain why i have troops joining even when i dont have diplomacy.i dont mind the diplomacy skill provided we pay the entire amount which those troops are worth down to the very last gold coin. Diplomacy skill should only increase the chance of getting joins.. why else would they call it diplomacy anyway.

Diplo

Hey i think they should split the surrendering less and the creature joining aspects of diplomacy into two skills.

i do agree diplo is sometimes, well.. overwhelming, but mapmakers can make them not join...

Well, just to be different....
But why keep Diplomacy in Heroes 4?  Does it really add that much to the game?  I rarely take Diplomacy as a skill these days because there are so many other useful skills.  But hey, maybe that's just me.  I'm not that good.

Dipolmacy

well as with my opinion of Diplo is that the map makers can easily disable the skill with proper monster settings, and it has always been my opinion that you have to fight something to earn something.  Joiners can make or break a game. Recently on HG2 Two seperate players got joiners that just overwhelmed me in a game since i was Never offered Diplo I had no chance.  But thats part of the game and the way the map designer wants it to be played..  I will let you know this you wont get any joiners on my maps unless its part of the map or special limitations to it.

I really don't understand how diplomacy exactly works. In many game I had joiners without diplomacy. In multiplayer games it could be an advantage if the map maker hasn't set the agresive attitude of the monsters. Other ways it is useless and one secondary skill less.
I think that in Heroes 4 you have to pay for monsters, and Diplomacy only reduces their price.
Anyway luck matters sometimes, so if you are lucky you get 20 black dragons for free in Heroes 3, this should be changed a bit, not totally, cuz having luck is really fun.

  Have fun guys...

When the wandering stacks of monsters are set at the beginning of the map 1 in 5 will join for free if your armies total HP is at least double the wandering group's HP.

All neutral creatures can be convinced to join with diplomacy if the same criteria is met but there is about 5% of the formula that is very complex and even goes so far as to factor in heroe's spell power.

This is not me saying this. It is what I was told nearly word for word by Phil Steinmeyer, lead programmer for Heroes2. Maybe they altered the formula for 3 but from my playing it seems the same.

The trick is to spend all your money before you approach the joiners so they won't ask for it. And yes I think this is probably an oversight by 3do so I hope in 4 they say something like '"We would love to join you but you do not have enough funds" and with that they turn and run. Do you want to pursue and engage?'
