finished game, Pali won with necro vs Sylvan. In fact I was crashed by necro... went full charged...but think was a mistake versus necro!

Me and Diegis are done. I randomed Necro and he got a bad match up with Sylvan. Necro pretty much Necro'd the game and granted me the win:

Certainly a hard game for sylvan but I wouldn't exactly consider it a guaranteed victory for necro. Here is the other side of the coin.

I had set the liches as favoured but none of the first 4 attacks on them triggered avenger But my sprites had amazing timing to dispel that blind from the dragons right before they played so no complaints. PS all units with dispel have it on advanced which has an 70% base chance to work, give or take. Chance is reduced the higher the level of the enemy caster is, whether hero or unit.

In fact here, I played to check smth else ... was not a proper game. Took 3 restarts till sylvan got attack with tactics!...the battle itself I didnt care

In all case, I believe Necro is one of the best in this arena mode! not unbeatable though!

Hopefully today will mark the end of this dragged-out round. The maps are ready and will be posted when the last results are reported.

Changes so far:

- Puppet formula closer to H5.5.
- Corrupt soil from 4 to 3 dmg/lvl.
- Marksman precise shot from 5 to 4 tiles.
- Shadow mistress swift attack.
- Extra resources for the arcane library.

- Light/Dark spells with mass versions have reduced mana costs. Apparently mass spells are always double the basic spell cost so the basic spells got a discount as well. Spellcaster units have their mana tweaked accordingly.

- Same is true for empowered spells. I could not give a prohibitive cost to the bugged empowered armageddon to prevent its use. Instead it was renamed to DO NOT CAST! with a description saying BANNED DUE TO A NUMBER OF BUGS. I cannot disable it but it's pretty clear that it's not meant to be used

- Bloodrage gets +5% boost and executioners +1 speed so that they do not have to rely on tactics. Their lvl 1 bloodrage no longer gives +1 speed but +1 init.

Things to review:

1) I have mixed feelings about whether cold death is better for gameplay or not. Variable damage is interesting, on the other had it can completely counter 6 levels worth of skills with a single spell. So far only stevie has expressed an opinion. What about you, do you prefer t7 insta-kills or balanced warmachine play? In case of the former, the phoenix will remain immune to ice.

2) I also plan to review necro's dark energy costs, in case they get more troops than intended.

If someone goes destructive, he should make do with the already increased damage output of his spells to try and kill warmachines. Cold death shouldn't work on warmachines in the first place, but I guess code limitations leave no room for tweaking. Better just remove it and adjust the damage formula for ice spells.

I also like the changes you described for the new version, maybe consider nerfing decay damage a bit. The only troublesome faction right now is Stronghold, I'm doing some mock duels to test things and they seem fine when they counter the opponent's magic, but they can't do anything against dark. Witch doctors are near useless, they can't block mass spells at all and otherwise the chances for a good proc still seems to not be in their favor.

One more improvement, basic units that do not serve as a different skin for one of the upgrades(ie slayer being the same as executioner) or as an alternative upgrade(ie battlepriest being alternative to zealot and inquisitor) are now disabled. Now you'll be able to tell at a glance if you have more creature options.

What is the reason behind making basic units unavailable by making them cost the same as upgrades or now disabling them?

I mean why not to keep available the option to buy basic units if you need extra gold for skills or arts. It adds another decision making, which is good for the game.

About ARMA - need to be tested ofc, but arma with academy seems pretty OP to me too

In that case wouldn't it make more sense to buy fewer upgraded ones or completely skip a stack and split a spellcaster stack in two? I have never felt that buying an unupgraded stack was the better option, in all these years. Except maybe buying basic minos just for meatshield use.

I´ve seen it in use, especially on some kind of units. But its not about why yes, its about why not. I thought there is some reason why you decided to no longer open this option (ie balance issues). If not I would suggest to offer basic units on usual cost (only there, where new "upgrade" wasn´t created).

There is one, it's hard to keep track of which units are special. You may have noticed that gameslayer checks them one by one in his videos, stat by stat. I don't want anyone wasting his time like that. In time I may introduce more alternative units provided that they can offer something interesting to the gameplay. Not for every tier of course, that would feel forced and hard to adapt to.

Good heavens no, they look terrible I am not a fan of the racial focus on the H5 lineups but I don't want to go that far nor could I if I wanted. I consider skill requirements and spell/unit/ability values fair game but changing a lineup would be messy.



While waiting for the final match of the round, I might as well post the map for the CUP OF THE FALLEN!

People from the first round who can participate:

4 participants would be an ideal number as we could have two 1v1 groups with a best of 3 matches and then a final best of 5 match between the two victors. I'd just like a confirmation from those who will take part.

Rewards? An unlockable of course! And a chance to get that qp that the main tourney finalists are entitled to.

Duel Map W6

In a nutshell:

This map has armageddon for academy, dungeon, inferno and necro.
Mass spells affect all units but are slightly weaker than those of the previous version. No mana discount here.
No cold death, slightly boosted ice spells.
Week 6 armies.
More artifacts than w5 version.
And the rest from here.

Same rules apply and you are also NOT allowed to use EMPOWERED ARMAGEDDON.



Matchups will be posted when the round is over. You can choose factions, play random or use the Strikeout Generator. You can copy paste the strikeout screen on your opponent's skype or I could post the matchups here for you and then take turns striking out matchups one by one till one remains.

To cut a very long story short, Gameslayer randomed Academy while I had Fortress. I got very lucky with the Runes that I had and which countered him perfectly. In a very intense duel, I closely won in the end. I guess the video will follow.
