You seem to go full innovative on factions, judging from the names. Though can you answer me this: Is the "Atlantis" and "Coral" factions linked to the old sanctuary somehow?

Atlantis is a fully water-based faction. Coral is a hybrid town. Sanctuary is Sanctuary. The old Heroes Sanctuary line-up is not grouped together as it was, but it's present in essence and modified.

Makes sense. So I guess something like mermaids would be in Atlantis (if so, you might already have gived me a potential favorite )
A few minor things.
Firstly, two sea based factions might be too much, and it might be best to push the one in another direction, though still similar, like a swamp town or a pirate one.
Secondly, if you have no plan to change it, I think the name "Reef" would fit better.

This link shows how Atlantis is based. But that proposition had a hybrid composition. So, Atlantis will not be hybrid, they'll be complete aquatic.

That's a good consideration. In my point of view, though, water world is just as rich as above water world and have room to be more than just one faction alone. The Reef (Corals) one really take some Pirate-feel about it, but no humans are involved. Humans are not spread about in this Universe, although they are adaptive.

There will be, also, swampish faction of a kind.

I tend to agree with MedicZero here; you should make sure that each faction plays diverse enough to stand on its own. That is not just battle dynamics, but also look and feel of the line-up and the town structures.

Oh, wow! I am truly impressed by the amount of rules and factions you are working at here. It really seems like a huge thing you are doing here. And a interesting one at that.
But, although I'm a bit intrigued by this, I don't know if it isn't maybe a bit bold to use only completely new factions and have none basing on old ones. I could imagine that there are a lot of people around here who really don't like that. But, I will first see, what your factions will actually look like in the end and get an opinion about them then.

That's that, and welcome. The fact that factions have different names doesn't mean that they are truly baseless. Some are familiar, but the different naming was to set them apart a bit better for their themes are pretty strong.

There's also the possibility of merging some of those before long, when they prove not complete enough to stand on their own, you see. But I think the bold part on all this is not really the line-ups, but mechanics holistically speaking.

Most of the times, because spells can cause a set of buffs and debuffs at the same time, and they change the base damage and duration of buffs/debuffs.

I absolutely love the spirit you're getting at Panda, the few disclosed from the factions already seem amazing, I wish it could be true.

In terms of mechanics, I am no fan on heroes on battlefield but more than willing to give it a shot the way you envision it, again if only it could come to life for real.

Keep it up and may the Panda be with you at its strongest my friend.

Tee-hee, thanks, Galaad.

I think many people did not like heroes on the battlefield due the unbalanced mechanics, or perhaps the RPGish vibe around it. That was one of the most enjoyable things for me ever (aside the unbalancing), given that we started truly being HEROES of might and magic, and not ARMIES of might and magic, or MAGIC of might and magic.

Well, it has always been HEROES, you are the hero strategist, buffing your army and deciding tactical moves.

What annoyed me in h4 is armies lost their purpose in the long run, if you can avoid that to happen I'm genuinely curious to see.

Yes, whilst in other games when heroes weren't that involved, at later game they were resumed to buff spell casting mostly, because destructive spells wouldn't cut through high numbers (very few exceptions depending on focused evolution), and sending your hero to attack would also only take a few heads ... so, balancing these two late-game situations requires tweaking and tinkering things on a holistic level, which I hope I can address in due course satisfactorily. ^_^

Ah, nice linups as it seems! And Goblins and Gnolls finally in one faction, that is where they belong.

But, I noticed that the different factions have access to units of actually different tiers  (some have no tier 1,others no tier 3 or 7). Is that intendet?
I also noticed that all units of the last 4 line-ups are just Tier 2. But, I guess that's a simple misstyping.

Ah, don't mind much Tier numbering. I'll fix that later, when I place descriptions. But yes, TIER classification is not fixed upon all factions, given they have different number of units, upgrades, options. Upgrades are available for fewer units, some units have equipment (so they are flexible), some units must be chosen over others. Tier goes from 1-10, as I explained somewhere in the Glossary. Tier 9 is reserved for Elite sort of monsters (come leading minions). 10 is for bosses. 8 is the highest tier available at towns. You'll notice that Citadel has Tier 6 as top unit, because human units are not that strong as a Dragon, for example, but they are more numerous.

I'm reworking some factions right now. Probably there will be 2 which will cease to exist, because they are becoming too exotic, and don't feel much Heroish. And I might fuse other 2 together, and make a bit of rework upon Sanctuary. ^^

Cthulhu in atlantis? Come on, it is the one creature you can't really get around it's origin and you make it tier 4? it doesn't even fit in the faction, as apparently the only logic behind it being there is that Cthulhu is technically a sea monster. TECHNICALLY MIND YOU!
Sorry for the slight rage, I just find this to be a bit too stupid. I mean, you could alternatively have digged a bit around in nearly every mythology and have found something more fitting.

That was before I started reassigning some units from late Reefs. Still haven't returned to Atlantis to reassess, I was a bit more focused on the critical ones. Limbo, Peaks and Reefs are now gone and Clifss was added. Gate will be renamed back to Inferno, to be a bit more familiar. I just didn't want to associate with angels and demons, but whatever. I just won't assign angels anywhere (don't want them with humans, given they got Valkyries already, nor I want to make humans too powerfully built on line-ups; their strengths lie somewhere else) nor use the word devil either (given there won't be an antagonistic for that matter).

Oasis, Sanctuary, Dungeon, Asylum, Inferno, Summit, Gaia and Library inherited some of the late faction's treats, units and characteristics.

And as I stated above, don't mind much tiers as for now.

All the work, the rules, all the new factions.

I would like to say more but units are the most important part, personal-wise, at a strategy game.
So I will wait, until there is more info to the units.
I am especially interested at some of your choices.
