Town building on expert and impossible (HOMM3)
Just wondered which town(s) causes you the most problems building up when playing on Expert or Impossible?
Dungeon needs 1 of every ressource for beholders, lots of sulfur for dragons, also mage guild level 2 and gems for minotaurs.
Rampart needs tons of crystals for pegasi and dragons, mage guild level 2 and some gems for unicorn.
Tower needs lots of gems and crystals and mage tower is very expensive.
Stronghold needs an absurd amount of crystals for both cyclops and behemoths.
Necropolis needs sulfur before it can get the only shooting unit in town.
The above are the towns that causes me the most problems, but which do you think is the hardest to build and is the cost justified?

Well dungeon and tower are the most expensive town, tower being slightly more expensive than dungeon if I remember well.
Dungeon is hard in the beginning with the level 3 dwelling, the fact is that you can't avoid it to be able to build the next dwellings so you're tied up.
The late dwellings are expensive too but tower is a bit harder in the mid and end dwellings, but at least you've had time to build a decent economy and gather needed ressources.
The hardest is dungeon though, because it hits you in the beginning where everything is crucial. I think it's justified for both town, as they have many of the best creatures in the game giving you a complete balanced and deadly lineup.

You play HotA, right? With the three stacks rule I always managed to take enouch from the map to build everything I need at 200% (for Cove, I never played any other race in HotA). Anyway, what's more important is what you are able to take with the units you got from them and not how many dwellings you built.

Well yes I play HotA, but I was asking in relation to good old standard Heroes 3.
Bloodsucker you should really try to play the other factions in HotA too and Cove is very easy to build btw.

Tower can be painful on impossible since the Mage Tower will probably halt your progress, unless you are very experienced (and somewhat lucky) when it comes to map draining. The remaining buildings can also be painful if there are few resources on the map, but the bright side is that the Cloud Temple is cheap.
Stronghold is also simple until you want your Cyclops or Upg Behemoths.
I personally tend to find Dungeon or Rampart worst on impossible due to the M2/M3 guilds needed. Not to mention the 10 of X resource for certain buildings. I have always found that a high requirement for a single resource is far more painful to deal with than twice as many resources required, but of several different resources.
Edit: On Expert all towns are easy to build.

Rampart seems fairly easy to start with on high difficulty as centaurs and elves are so effective. Getting dragons is very hard though.

True but those 10 crystals and 10 gems can be hard to bring forth sometimes.

Stronghold, easy to build up, unless you want both cyclops and bears. HotA moved Crystals cost to upgrade cyclops, and you can farm cyclops from new creature bank. You don't need crystals for recruting unupgraded bears.
Fortress(mainly ore and wood, murcury and sulfur are 2nd because only need them for upgrades mostly.)
Inferno 1-5 creatures need wood and ore, mage guild is required for Efreets, and lots of mercury for Devils. Best week 1 build is going for Efreets and Devils in week 2.
Castle only need rare resources for Monks and Angels, but 1-4 and Champions are enough for first month. You can farm Angels from Griffin Conservatory, so you'll eventually have more Archangels than Champions.

Since I had found Hota, I stopped playing SoD. In Hota there are big differences in costs of buildings. In almost every (maybe in every) city, something costs more or less. I don't remember everything, but main idea is ballance.
I agree with you guys, that in SoD Tower and Dungeon is painful in 200%. In 160% EVERY city is easy in my opinion (with buildings). But that's in SoD.
As I have mentioned earlier, I am playing Hota. There the biggest problem is probably with Dungeon (steal 1x of Every Res and Dragons require Magic Guild 2). In Tower you don't need Magi Tower (lv 4 Units) to develop your city. Castle is hard, becouse of Tons of Wood needed for Champions, and Tons of Res for Angels. I think, Inferno could be the cheapiest in Hota, You don't even need Magic Guild lv2 for Upgraded Pits.
Hota has too much differences, what means we shouldn't compare it to good, old SoD (but to be honest - not balanced).
Btw. My choice is Hota, I recommend it to all of you.

I always found inferno a hell to build on impossible (pun intended). Simply because the units you really need are hard to get

It hard on poor/fixed maps. On rich it easy to get Devils + Castle.

The bright side though is that it is mainly a town fixed on gold up until lv6-7.
