Why are Aliens contacting Hungary tho, seems kinda random lol. Also love the idea that Islam will become the world religion, at last the thousand reign of the barbarians will come to an end and we can finally lead civilised lives.

Well, maybe after the great war in 2123, Hungary will be a very significant place in the new world order, back when Baghdad was the Paris of the Middle-East, Manhattan was just a jungle with a bunch of rabbit hunters! Besides, since it's mostly Americans who are obsessed with UFO's, we subconsciously tend to think they will make contact with them first, that's the usual sci-fi "lore" since it's mostly them who are writing it. But Aliens won't be aware of this and their first contact may indeed be random. They will be completely "alien" to our international priorities, after all.

This Baba Vanga, ("baba" on Russian language means a young girl, or an adult girl, or a woman, or the old woman, or very old woman, etc) have a difficult life, well as many peoples that born in the "wrong place, in the wrong time.." .

But I think shes predictions , well, its looks like a Baba Vanga drinks too much of Vodka.. ..
And obviously she zero knowledge in the Sociology Science, that can using a modern high-power computation devices, make some prediction about an influence of the new technologies to the human society on the Earth, also Baba Vanga have a poor idea about the Astronomy, and actually about the any Science , or even the coherent reality of the life on the Earth . yeah .. .

BUT It seems like a smarty guys has been studied this mrs Vanga, so - Psionics -- Practical Application of Psychic Awareness, well and this becoming a very interesting to myself, but the stupid real life stuff, distract me like hell , anyway I think I will found some time to read about the Scientific studies of the mrs Vanga person.
Very interesting, indeed. . .

Just watched for the 9th time StarGate while stuffing down my throat tons of popcorn and cooing like a turkey, thats how much I love stories about aliens. The real ones

Has any of you ever played the Game of Life?

The universe is much like a randomly seeded "game of life" automaton, where patterns may arise. Complex, self sustaining patterns are incredibly rare.

If the universe is infinite, then there's an infinity of lifeforms out there.

If it is finite, then the amount of lifeforms out there will depend on a number of factors including the rarity of conditions that allow for abiogenesis to occur.
We won't be able to make an estimate on this until we have a full understanding of abiogenesis. However, given that life exists on Earth, we know that it can occur. It is likely to have occurred elsewhere. It may well be common.

The likelihood of intelligent, multicellular life evolving is much smaller. If one looks at the history of life on Earth, it's by a series of incredibly unlikely events that mammals like us could evolve and eventually dominate the planet.

Highly intelligent life is almost certainly extremely, exceedingly, unimaginably rare. We should consider ourselves lucky that it is.

Given the enormous timescales involved, once intelligent life does emerge, it will quickly transcend biological evolution and either self-destruct or succeed in developing and exploiting artificial super-intelligence. The civilization - or entity - will then become virtually immortal and rapidly ascend the Kardashev scale. We can only guess as to its nature and motives.

If intelligent life has emerged and survived before us, then it has likely done so millions or billions of years ago. It is then far beyond anything we could possibly imagine. It will be so advanced that no amount of superlatives will do justice to its unimaginable potential. This is only a logical conclusion. It's like being inside a vast, empty room with god, possibly multiple gods, lurking about.

The next relevant question then becomes whether faster than light travel is possible or not.
If it is not, then we are probably safe for a long time to come. Possibly forever, since the universe is expanding. The alien will then be analogous to an expanding sphere of information processing capability. We will have time to become like it. At some point in the distant future, if we are in close enough proximity and the rate of expansion of the universe allows for it, these spheres will intersect. The result will be interesting.

If faster than light travel is possible, then we are completely at its mercy. The first civilization or entity to reach this potential will dominate a finite universe. In that case it may already be watching us, like a biologists might study an ant colony.

The romanticized picture of the future of space travel and civilization as given by StarGate or Star Wars could not possibly be further from reality.

I look forward to the day we seclude them back to Lucera and deport them all.

Why the hell the Orthodox aren't reuniting, we need to make Sicily Greco-Roman again.

mr Salamandre, I see a many incoherent things in your "model".

1) Self destruction of the human beings, in example, is VERY unlikely thing, you even a full scale nuclear warfare between US and SU will kill only 70%-90% percents of the whole population of the humans on the Earth.

To kill 100% (if will kill something less than 100%, very likely that civilization will be restored soon after.) you need some incredibly powerful that will cause a catastrophic damage to the Earth surface into a dozens miles of deep. .

If the civilization already have such source of Energy, that can do such things, they obviously will be able to colonize anything in their Star - System.

Yeah, then you need to do same procedure of killing with every colonized planet, with every spacecraft, etc, which almost impossible...

So, the suicide of the civilization that have a hi-tech level, is a VERY unlikely...

2) Even if the Faster Than Light travels is impossible, the advanced civilization can create (or use already existed) a space-time anomaly to travel for a 11 billions light years by a second, and they will not exceed the speed of light in this case.

3) Dominate in finite Universe, hmm, it is a little bit hmm, incoherent due to the SIZE of this finite Universe ... Even with all of this mega space-time travel technologies...

And if the civilization have rich the Sci-Tech level that can gives to them an ability to travel for a billions of the light years by a second, I have doubts that they will be interested in the "domination" and other stuff , this is obviously, the low level, poor civilizations, will be something that they have a zero interest in .

Greeks and Romans didn't try to dominate the others for the sake of, but for resources and also because acquiring more power is in our genes, it governs our entire life. We will ruthlessly kill billions of lower life forms if their nest happens to be on some oil rich area, so I don't exclude we could be one day just some ants another civilization will remove, because our oceans could be essential to their survival -for example.

Stephen Hawkings said:
"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans. We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

Granted that Stephen didn't meet aliens, but that's a fair warning, we can only hope that IF there is life outside our planet and IF it's capable of reaching us they won't destroy us.

Not necessarily because they are evil, they may kill us in trying to help us, mind you.

Or they may be completely apathetic to our suffering as we are to the suffering of rats or extermination of bacteria. We may not even be worth dominating from their perspective.

But technology-developer level intelligent life evolving, evolving as an explorer specie, overlapping with our time + universe and having the means to make such a journey in such a vastness doesnt seem much likely to me, anyway.

That could also be, after all it's just speculation.

My favourite scenario is that we actually make it first into the inter-galactic scene, and we start our conquest of the universe.

Pretty unlikely, but it's funny to think of reversing the roles some times.

Well, just like it wasn't likely in 1700s to travel from Europe to Japan in several hours, so in theory it's possible.
