Markkur, people aren't debating about evolution, it is one of the many examples over a subject which had been commented about, for quite some posts now, including posts by you. And evolution has nothing to do with "how I see life" or "how you see life," it's simply a biological fact. I'm sorry if you feel offended because you are one of the persons who is in denial about this but we are not talking about a "matter of opinion" here. Now, if you still have trouble about understanding the relevance between the example and the topic, maybe you should "reread" one of the articles I already linked with that chart.

Something I have considered about discussions and how they go may depend on what one wants to discuss and what one believe is being discussed.

E.g. in a religion thread, someone who comes in to discuss whether God exists may perhaps try to discuss in a thread that wants to discuss items relevant to religion, not whether or not their religion itself is relevant.

Another example, a discussion of the functioning of evolution, someone who enters said thread and wants to convince others evolution doesn't exist is perhaps also missing the point.

In a way I guess it'd be like joining a chess club only to try to convince the players that chess is a waste of time.

But it is so easy to slide into the heavier discussions I imagine, even if it is something one really isn't interested in.

What the hell! does any of that have to do with school-bullying and the law in question?

And in case it matters, the slightest to you in the arena of respect, I resent "all of the above" top of post...in THIS tread.

I am NONE of your kind thoughts and I grow sick of reckless words freely given about people you can NOT even know.
No one called you a fanatic. I will have you know that I do know people who I can confidently call fanatics, quite a few actually, so do not say I do not "know" who these people are. If I am going to be honest and I in no way wish to offend, but religion and bullying go hand in hand.

What about today? do you mean this kind of people gets rarer and rarer?
No, I mean my family and their friends and their friends friends believe the world is 6000 years old and they still do. These people are not some small minority you will never meet in the US. They are everywhere and incredibly proud of it in some self righteous arrogant way.

To repeat but adding a little more; make YOUR own thread and make your entire case on how Evolution is extremely relevant today.(Remember according to you America is backward...well hell, educate everyone on this global-forum on how important Evolution is to the nutz and bolts of society today; not only in the classroom but more importantly...on the streets of our cities.  i.e. As in this thread...you could have made some case, (I suppose) in regards to bullying. Idk but you get the gist of what I mean.

@Markkur

Evolutionary theory is extremely important to the nuts and bolts of society: Horticulture, medicine, environmental restoration, nutrition, food processing, and indirectly it spills over into things such as bio-fuels. If everybody stopped understanding evolutionary processes overnight, the consequences would be dire. It's one of several facets of biology, but scientific theories are to a great extent all interconnected in their applications. The reason some of us haven't died to measles or small pox is related somewhat to evolutionary theory, or rather our understanding of it (it has always been in action of course)

And I think loosely speaking, if a large demographic of people are hostile towards science, consciously or subconsciously, then that is a lot of talent being squandered. The main culprit of bullying are broken and/or abusive homes, but not having a very clear everyday purpose in life also contributes. This is why schools press hard for clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities.

So denial of certain realms of science has a very real effect on human suffering and hardship. There's a lot of would-be scientists that became something else, when they might have been very well predisposed for that sort of work.

Ok, I will make a "separate thread" because if I post any response I will take the conversation even further away from the OP. Actually I've already done that to some degree. And in that post I will bring forward the last four posts.

@tSar
I would like to read what you think about my experience as a witness to "shame" in "your" current work and how it "may" relate to your last post. I do understand that my thoughts are not necessary to your Research nor your (I presume) upcoming Final and therefore my thoughts could be of no consequence and if you're under a time constraint...I'd imagine, necessarily much more so.

Cheers all

Devoted-to I think dominates the above and whatever devotion must be tamed to more easily communicate with others. True at least for this one man.

Regardless...Spot-on for all of us I'm sure...I think.
