Combat skill value - Need your opinions

hi all,

i m creating a system which is dedicated to the hero creation.

In future if i m having fun with my friend i ll share with you each step to enter in this "battle system" with some balanced stuff.

So, If you have to create a hero like a Role Playing Game, How do you rate each combat skill ? (Each value represent the overall strength of the skill - For easy use, basic, advanced and expert skills have the same value)

NB : Hero level is equal to 15 or 20.

Archery      : 2
Sorcery      : 3
Offense      : 3
Armourer     : 2.5
Resistance   : 2.5
Leadership   : 3
Luck         : 2
Tactics      : 4
Artillery    : 2
First Aid    : 2
Intelligence : 4
Wisdom       : 4
Magic School : 2.5        (all schools are supposed to be balance)

I m thinking Tactics, Intelligence are mandatory (Wisdom also cost 4). Depending your class (Enchanter for Intelligence and Warrior for Tactics), you ll have to select an expert degree with a basic degree. If you select Advanced Tactics and Adavanced Intelligence You are a Battlemage.

Please answer, for snowing sake and balance.

I'm unfamiliar with WoG and how "like a RPG" influences what you're trying to achieve, so my answer may not apply.

Otherwise since you're only using 4 close numbers anyway I'd say, using the sec. skills you used:
High: Offense, Armorer, Tactics, Earth Magic, Air Magic, Water Magic, Wisdom
Middle: Archery, Resistance, Leadership, Artillery, Fire Magic, Intelligence
Low: Sorcery, Luck, First Aid

Water Magic and Wisdom could also be middle in stead, depends a lot on who you are asking. Also Intelligence could be seen as low as well.
If you're playing something like a campaign I'd change some of the ratings.

On big maps like TEW series, Ragnar Quest etc. Water Magic and Intelligence are must skills to have.

High: Wisdom, Earth Magic, Water Magic, Intelligence, Logistics, Pathfinding/Navigation(depends on map terrain)
Medium: Tactics, Offense, Armorer, Air Magic, Fire Magic, Archery, Estates, Scholar, Sorcery(only with hero specialist with high spell power like Malekith/Zydar)
Low: War Machines Skills(Ballistics, Artillery, First Aid), Sorcery(without specialty), Eagle Eye, Learning.

Sorry for my bad english guys,

The battle system is modified with MMA (to modify the .lod) and it s about close figth, i mean only figths on battllegrounds without any campaigns or scenarii.

For now i m a bit unhappy of dispel magic. if dispell belong to all school You can t throw the spell selecting one single target or every target. The system select for you the maximum strength of school (basic, advanced or expert).

Thinking about your answer i will modify like this :

Wisdom : no change, i was not sure
Archery : increase from 2 to 2.5
Armory : increase from 2.5 to 3
Sorcery : no change
Resistance : it will scale after first level.

I think that inteligence 4 and tactics 4 are not better than offense 3. Because it gives 30%! ALL UNITS to melee hit. Its powerfull skill.

Sorcery is equal to 10%, 20%, 30% in WoG or WT
Armourer is quite strong too, it s 10%, 15%, 20%

Did you think to the update or the vanilla SOD ?

The intelligence and tactics value are mandatory for my test cause it impacts directly on battlefield. If you pick tactics, you will certainly rush (even if mass slow is nerf) and don t have ranged units contrary to intelligence which helps to increase the duration of the figth (you can spam more spells).

Heroes experience will probably have a huge impact that s why there s a low limit experience (heroes are level 20 max).

Here the simplify cost

Archery      : 2
Sorcery      : 3
Offense      : 4
Armourer     : 4
Resistance   : 3
Leadership   : 3
Luck         : 2
Tactics      : 4
Artillery    : 2
First Aid    : 2
Intelligence : 4
Wisdom       : 3,4,5
Magic School : 3,4,5

Magic school and wisdom are now scaling a little bit.

For example a battle mage can pick :
8 pts in tactics
8 pts in intelligence
3 pts in wisdom
12 pts in a magic school
6 pts in resistance
3 pts in leadership
8 pts in offense
4 pts in first aid

A wizard can pick :

12 pts in Intelligence
4 pts in Tactics
12+12 pts in magic schools

Done.

so there would be 40 pts in total including 16 pts for Tactics and Intelligence.

Sorcery is a great skill in wog only because its map adventure bonuses, as visiting locations from away. But in battle it remains as weak as in SoD. Completely useless after middle game.

Indeed, and high intelligence makes that you can continue to summon. Every Chinese map I saw out there requires this tactic: first you lose all your army, then you start summoning, then enemy hero is out of mana, then blind his units or quick sand everywhere, then resurrect all and win the battle.
