I have a very special spot in my heart for the Modoc theme from Fallout 2, Dream Town. It really built an atmosphere of helplessness and despair that made that town memorable.
The same track was later reused in Fallout: New Vegas, but I feel it was a harsh mismatch against the tone of the location it was chosen for.

Salamandre said: Heroes 2 was special because of the opera and it matched the towns mighty design. But Romero's music is nowhere near the immortals, so when you listened it 10 times, there is nothing more to discover in. (imo of course)
You rookie. Mozart or Bach would be like a 5 year old blowing a whistle compared to Romero's greatness!
Ok, this part's serious: Is discovering something new in it, every time you listen to a piece of music, always an indispensable criteria for you? I mean, there are many simple catchy tunes I love, I must have enjoyed them hundreds of times and certainly, I don't discover something new every time I listen to them. And sometimes, it's even the opposite, I get a feeling of familiarity which is part of the attraction.
You seem to have no such criteria when it comes to cinema, you enjoy "pop" cinema, you say you watch regular TV shows or "solid action movies without unnecessary psycho-drama" many times over. Why so ambitious on expectations when it comes to music, is it a profession thing?

No, its simply a revelation of my limits. When I listen to Bach I always feel its essence remains outside my human comprehension, but also that this essence holds many answers I cant get elsewhere. Is not about profession, I have friends who can't read music yet they would listen to classical artworks for hours and report same feelings. Its just about each one's sensibility.
Also on a particular note, the fact that I know its grammar and syntax makes impossible for me to listen to music while doing something else. It makes no sense to hear one word from ten then enjoy the whole, is just not possible.

That's different for me, there is times I listen music to study it, other times to just orgasm on it, and last but not least there is times when it helps me to go through a month's worth of dishes.
BTW if this discussion goes any further I suggest we move it to the appropriate thread in OSM.

I agree that classical music is sometimes like a gate way to the transcendental and as Beethoven says, "the power of music is that it hypnotizes you"* but what I asked was, is that the only aspect for you that makes you truly love a piece of music? If I go by the same example, you don't expect every movie you love, to make you discover something new in each viewing, why expect each piece of music to do that, even when it's the background music for some game playing.
*Btw, music is the most abstract of arts but I have always wondered if it's hypnotizing power had something to do with the way our brains are wired in evolutionary terms, you know, like birds reacting to a mating song or wolves howling.

Usually platformers and atmospheric games deliver good sountracks, they more or less have to. Gonna add the Distance OST, not all of the sountracks but just enough to give an idea. It's an interesting survival racing game tagged with "great sountrack" on steam, I played it and enjoyed it a lot.
Also mentioning Anduin's Theme from WoW Legion, that flute hits me right in the feels.

Zenofex said: Sea Dogs - battle against Spaniards. All themes in the game are extremely good but this one is my favourite. Flamenco with cannonballs.
The Witcher - main theme. Still the best piece of music in the series and one of the best in soundtracks in general (not only for a game).
Diablo - Catacombs. All 4 dungeon types in the original Diablo have great themes but this one is special, mesmerizing.
Dungeon Keeper 2 - despite its less-than-serious atmosphere, this game has a haunting dark music which can easily be incorporated in something horror-themed. This particular one starts rather monotonous but becomes a masterpiece after that.
YEEEESH seadogs needs some love, bought it by complete accident as a kid, but the music drew me in, and then the simple yet engaging gameplay (trash tier graphics and controls, still played it far longer than many other games, the gameplay was workable and engaging and the music simply epic.

An information I forgot to give is that our national orchestra is playing a video game concert next friday.
That leads me to ask whether or not your contries arranges video concerts and or would you participate such a concert?
