Yeah it's pricey. Add that it has a proportionally small storage space so people who want digital downloads need to buy more space, which is even more pricey.

I'll probably wait a bit though. I'll wait out the pre-order craze, maybe there will be a Zelda bundle? Pre-order craze = many people buy = better titles?

I wouldn't count on a price drop, but rather I want to see what titles will be annouced. There's 80 games in the making if one is to believe Nintendo, and I think E3 will be critical (there are rumors of a Pokemon game).

There's also tommorows Fire Emblem direct. Some say they might announce a Fates port for Switch (aside from Warriors and a mobile game). That wouldn't satisfy me cause I did play through this entry and didn't find it that good (to justify buying the port), but if they will have a new entry I will buy Switch faster then it took me to write this paragraph...

I am really looking forward to the innovative console itself. Especially the part where I can play in bed or a coach. I have high hopes for future games but particularly Skyrim and Zelda interests me now.

You don't need to go to another planet to feel like living on another planet. Come to my country and check the prices here. Taxes and snow makes it cost thrice or even four times the regular price converting back to dollars.

For example, when PS4 was released, it cost around R$ 4.000,00. Which converted to dollars meant US$ 1,250.00. Nowadays, you can find it at R$ 900,00, which is pretty much close to the dollar currency and regular prices.

The same will be regarding Nintendo Switch, I reckon. Even worst, I think.

We all know how bad Wii U turned out: so many unfulfilled promises.

the last consoles that had games worth my time were the gamecube, gameboy advance, and playstation 1.
n follows generation booms with their product releases: the wiis were obviously targeted at gamers with kids, not gamers.  it seems like now they not only feel that those kids have grown up enough to be more mobile, and that their parents might have more time for gaming, but also that technology has reached a sufficient point to switch it up and bridge both the gap between the generations, and the gap that started long ago between the nes and the gameboy.  they began to close this gap with the super gameboy, and have bridged their systems many times and many ways since, but never could i play the quality of console games that nintendo develops on the go, and then on the big screen.  its all about the games; and no other system has ever so elegantly integrated high-caliber gaming with every day life.  we can now play top-tier games anywhere, with anybody, ergonomically.
motion controlled party games seem a lot more appealing with other people instead of a screen.
this will be the first mobile game machine i am proud to be seen with, because of the quality of games that n produces, and how easy it is to include others in the fun, or "share the joy" as n puts it.  they dont make video game consoles, they make fun machines, and now it would seem theyve deployed a definitive way of life for gamers.

To tell you the truth, I would buy Switch even if only for that Zelda game, but I need at lest 3-4 sure-buy titles to consider it seriously. A Fire Emblem TBS game, a full-blown Pokemon RPG game, maybe a new Metroid game? See, I've bought Wii for only a few exclusive titles. Never regretted it.

Hardly see them around. However, my workmate has a SNES in the box. They're getting rare, them.

Even with skyrocket prices in consoles and high-tech stuff, people here love games and they do strive getting the newest things. They complain about the price, but they buy it anyway in the end.

But it's fairly common having them buy things in USA to have some illegal unlocking service to have games run our Region data instead. Still, it's expensive, but much less expensive than buying a local console.

In the box? You mean "CIB"? as in, sealed and never-played?

not my cup of tea, TBH but I do own all the consoles from the golden period. Starting from NES, and all up to/including Wii U. Some of them were a real ***** to find in good shape & working. Dreamcast was a nightmare, that console just doesn't go well with piracy, and people in my country pretty much modded every single one, making the lasers half-dead really fast. I had to import an UK Dreamcast in the end.

Yeah, never played.

Dreamcast – I only recall playing a single game in it, in a 'lan house' of sorts, back when I had no gaming consoles or a proper PC. It was a 4-player game, something similar to All Smashing Whatever game Nintendo has. I don't recall the name. Another console I only played few games in it was that 128 Nintendo one, Dolphin which was the name of it ... ? Ah, Nintendo Cube. Played Resident Evil 1 and 0. Both Remastered which I now have in my Steam account.

I only had an Atari and SNES in my life. SNES I did love, many games I enjoyed. Nowadays I find them all too short (except from 'J'RPGs), but many I have in my notebook in case I want to play them again. Uniracersis always nice playing and listening to the rock ballads, while making some moves and beating Bronzen, Sylvia and Goldwyn. Somehow, Sylvia was the most annoying of the three ... sometimes you were making all those movies to gather speed, and then a great jump! Then, she would pass by you in the air, with the most illogical position, very slowly just to make you despair.

Here as far as I can recall, the stationary Nintendo Consoles were not really popular, except for the NES, which came in many forms of bootlegs, most famous here was the Zilithon(NES electronics, Sega Genesis appearance), I had was the (in)famous Polystation 1. People really liked the gameboys tho, and a lot of ppl I knew had them.
Bootleg NES with all of it's 99999999999 in 1 cartridges were at the bottom of the gaming hierarchy.

Super Nintendo was crazy popular back in the day.

As to the Switch, I am tempted to get it because I really enjoy Xenoblade Chronices and Zelda but it's a lot of money just for a couple of games.  Plus with my interest in video games waning, it seems like an unnecessary expense.

I remember seeing that Polystation here somewhere. There were a few of these ominous consoles back in the day, but not as much as it could be. All of them using the nature's mechanism of mimetism to guarantee survival in the market.

My thoughts exactly, but on the other hand, with my 'waning' interest and the whole thing being costly this is exactly why this would suit me. Buying one great game per 3 months is exactly the kind of approach I will probably take with this. Why not then? @Omega, and how much money do you 'waste' on unnecessary expenses called boardgames (this is coming from a guy who not so long ago also 'wasted' money on board games if you catch my tune )

[...]

I've just read this (pretty old info but of much importance): "As I mentioned before, the latest title, Fire Emblem Fates, is selling well in America and has found a wide audience outside of Japan as well.

We have also released many spin-off titles and related products, and this has become a major IP for Nintendo, both in name and in substance." -> Which is an official Nintendo standpoint (link)

OH YISS! Todays FE direct can't come soon enough!

Update: So it appears a Switch Fire Emblem game is indeed in the making, but not earlier then 2018. And no further details were presented. This... is disappointing. I thought it will release earlier (maybe E3 will bring some info?). On the bright side, a Gaiden remake (Echoes) will be released for 3DS (hope there will be a physical version available) so pretty much a traditional FE game (though Gaiden had some novelties like dungeon crawling), and I like te idea behind that Warriors is meh (figures), but that mobile game (Heroes) does look promising...

I know it's a stupid question at it's core, but do you guys suggest buying the Switch on launch, or waiting a bit? I'm very tempted to pre-order it, but at the same time I would like to see how it'll develop. There's actually no big reason no to, aside from the fact it's quite an expenditure. I mean it's not even in Nintendo style to realese an updated version of the console (which is my biggest fear actually), and we won't know how the console does until at least one year passes. At the same time something tells me to be patient...

Damn, this is so hard to process. Do you have some words of advice guys? Be honest! I know at this point not even one of us has a clear picture, so it's a tricky question. From my perspective, Nintendo is putting their all on this one, even to the point that if it does not click (pun intended) they can stop making home consoles at all. I think they learned with Wii U, that their only chance is to interest people with something different (something that Wii's success should've told them already). We can at least expect some decent games through it's lifecycle...
