Anyone knows when the next Nintendo Direct will be? They like to drop the dates randomly, and only a few days before the actual event. I would really like to hear some news on Fire Emblem Three Houses... EDIT: found the answer myself, seems they usually throw something at the start of the year, sometime between 10-20th of January when looking at past year records.

EDIT: Man, Smash Ultimate is fun! At first I was a bit overwhelmed with how to control the characters (practically a noob in Smash, not counting the 3DS demo), and ofc some of them are hard to learn. But then I got Bowser who's playstyle suits me. I even managed to complete Challange mode with him already. I still have problems with recovery, but aside from that I'm getting the hang of controls. Well, advanced techniques like blocking or all those mid-air juggles are still far off, but I least I can beat a normal level AI.

The game is sooo full of flavor and stuff to do, and I didn't even touch World of Light.

PS: Getting the Gamecube controller was the right call. Tried to play with joycons, but the classic pad has better layout (a shame you can't fully control the Switch with it though, it lacks the HOME button for instance).

PS 2: Now I understand why people are so hyped with this franchise

EDIT 2: World of Light is really fun. Love how they use available assets to recreate various characters. I don't understand why the mode recieved quite a bit of negativity, it has all the things to make it interesting: variety, loot and flavor. The only thing that is a bit irritating is that some fights tend to be really anoying (for instance Paulina DK stage or the ones with regenerating AI), and you probably rather need luck then skill to beat them...

Smash is great It is a bit difficult for newcomers indeed, but when you get the hang of one or two characters it is a blast.
I like world of light. I find some fights insanely difficult, and I do not play the mode for more than 30 min. at the time, because it is a little too much the same.

I have just started playing Octopath Traveller as well. To me it is one of those RPGs that needs a lot of time before you fall in love with it. But man it is pretty. A really cool retro look.

I'm actually maining Bowser in World of Light Somehow this character really suits me. He is heavy, hits heavy (+great dash attack) and his specials are really useful. I especially like the "butt-stomp" and "fire breathing" as it seems to be really effective against AI to rack some % dmg. "Shell spin" and that special grab are also solid. Did I mention his Final Smash is also really good as it lets you aim for opponents with ease?

I agree some fights were really hard at start, especially the Pauline one was hard until I learned to cheese it out with Staff or those with multiple minions (like the one with 8 Snakes that throw bombs). But I boosted some skills, for example instead of going for smaller skills from the start I went for fast Smash meter fill and double Smash and found a perfect Spirit combo for Bowser: one that ups Specials, one that makes Dashing do additional damage and one that boost fire attacks. Sometimes I also use spirits for upping Fist Attacks or different Primary type to counter AI that has a lot of spirit points. Alas usually you don't even need to change the type even if AI has the type advantage. Since then most fights are so easy I literally do not need more then a few button mashes with dash attacks and specials to complete them. My Spirit Team has something like 13000 points overall so the difference is strenght is usually huge.

But I still enjoy the mode very much. It does have a little bit of this RPG feeling with building stats and best team configurations, or looking for spirits that will help you in some fights/remove map obstacles.

True. I love it as well. There is just so much content in Smash! I looked at some videos on youtube and was mindblown at how much content I yet have to try out

Is anyone waiting on the Nintendo direct like me? Pretty hyped actually. Rumors say 10th of Jan which would make sense looking back on previous years.

Definitely some stuff on Fire Emblem: TH would be nice. Maybe Joker gameplay reveal for Smash (although Sakurai stated some time ago they are pretty early in development)?

Aside from that Pokemon 2019 maybe? Or maybe they will save it for a special?

Looking forward.

Well, it's not set in stone. Those are rumors, but I think it's a matter of days. They need to make some announcements to keep the hype running, last couple of directs were mostly about Smash or some other single titles.

Speaking of Smash, I tried quite a few popular Spirit + Fighter combos, but hands down the single most OP combination is the so called One-Punch Little Mac. It's Little Mac + Giant Spirit (Zapfish is the easiest to get) + Spring Man (Fist Attacks+) + Victini (Hyper Smashes+). Before I used another Fist+ Spirit instead of Victini (Mac's B special is devastating), but the real powerhouse attacks are charged Smash attacks + unflinching skill (from the skill tree). It literally one-shots even advanced Spirit. I still had my share of hard fights and there are still some that need a lot of tries (although usually there's a trick to it so you need to use other Spirit combos to defeat Legendary spirits), but I'm basically cheesing like a storm through WoL now

EDIT: Nintendo is really taking their sweet time with the Direct. I was hoping they would at least give precise information when Piranha Plant for SSBU will be available (less then 2 weeks left of January) and connected it with the Direct itself...

EDIT 2: Yeah so, Indie Direct wasn't what everyone was waiting for, but Wargroove release date on Feb 1st has made my day anyway. I'm not a person that usually buys pre-orders but 20$ for a game with endless replay-ability (map/campaign/cutscene editor + cross-play) is a bargain imo. Not to mention I had some Nintendo coins stashed which reduced the price. Advance Wars would cost like 50$ probably.

When it comes to the main Direct though, I think a February date is now more likely.

Ugh, so they are like, starting Metroid 4 development from scratch. I wonder if it was one of the reasons we still didn't have a proper Direct this year... Maybe they were waiting for some kind of green-lighting from the said game producers? Or maybe it's probably me just overthinking this...

EDIT: https://gadgets.ndtv.com/games/news/nintendo-switch-sales-total-32-27-million-since-launch-1986094

So Nintendo Switch sales figures stand at 32+ mln units sold, but apparently they lowered their sales expectations for this fiscal year from 20 to 17 mln. I wonder if this means there's some delay for both Pokemon and Animal Crossing games? Because imo those two titles would make the console easily surpass their sale expectations

I like the transparency of the Metroid development. Better than a crappy game being shipped. I’m just waiting to hear about fire emblem. I’m both excited and worried for that game. The announcement trailer had some cool things but also some weird stuff that needs more context.

Been playing a lot of smash still. Can’t seem to get myself to the elite smash que. got mii sword fighter up to 3 mil today and still didn’t get it
Piranha plant is a fun fighter tho!

One game I picked up that I cannot recommend enough: Into the breach. If you like tactics and strategy then  it’s a must buy. Only 15$ too. Looks sorta like pacific rim if it was a game lol. It’s a rogue like grid based strategy game where you try to kill all the alien bugs before they kill you or the cities. Its got a great structure for a game and cool mechanics. I feel like any heroes fan would like the game

Yeah, I had my eyes on Into the Breach for quite some time, but for now I will focus on Wargroove. I'll always pick fantasy-themed TBS over a sci-fi one.

A word of warning regarding Smash 2.0.0 patch: https://screenrant.com/super-smash-bros-ultimate-piranha-plant-glitch/

EDIT: [Smash Ultimate mild spoiler] Damn that true ending Smash Ultimate boss is something. The fight is a combination of platforming and fighting all the previous bosses. Apparently you need around 20 minutes in one go to beat the whole fight. It will take me a while to best this :/. Finished.

I must say I enjoyed the World of Light. I'd never would've guessed I would dig collecting spirits so much, I have 1000+/1300 Trophies are visually more attractive, but I think they had a good idea with Spirits. I was struck with nostalgia many times when I saw arts of some old (and probably forgotten) characters like the Super Mario Lands "Tatanga" boss. It would be so cool if those had at least a bit of trivia text also.

EDIT 2: Nintendo Direct 13/02/2019

Really looking forward to Fire emblem info. Even though I’m expecting a delay I wanna know more about the new mechanics. Also an update on Pokémon 2019 would be cool. Meanwhile I’ve been racking up hours on wargroove. That game is epic!!

Actually it's confirmed to be 35 minutes long. That's not a lot when taking into account how much hype has built around it. Here are my predictions:

- FE: TH release date (June 2019?), gameplay trailer + some mechanics and Collectors Edition. And maybe a dlc character for Smash related to the series (probably the protagonist chick with a halberd/pike type weapon or Tiki). Speaking of which...
-... an update on Joker dlc for Smash. Probably footage
- Animal Crossing 2019 release date + footage, but rather short
- Pokemon 2019 (Fall?) release date and maaaybe some footage, but they will probably keep it short as there is Pokemon Day coming in March
- old-new Nintendo title: F-Zero or Viewtiful Joe
- Metroid Prime trilogy remaster for Switch

...and some other random stuff like ports

So I guess many people will be disappointed with the Direct. Some things were confirmed but I guess it missed things people were expecting the most. No Animal Crossing (probably saved for E3), no Pokemon (probably saved for Pokemon Day) and no Metroid Prime Trilogy remake. Also I really hoped for some Joker footage for Smash, but it seems they really were early in production when they announced him back in December '18.

FE: Three Houses was the star of the show, and I must say the concept of you being a teacher that will groom his own harem, I mean feature creme of the crop of knights looks interesting. It is something definetly fresh for the series, non-linear and somehow fits the spirit of the series. Nice! Oh and people were right, it will be released later, July 2019.

Astral Chain looks very interesting. A new IP, cool-looking and from an AAA developer, Platinum Games. It does look like an epic high-end game. A potential cult-classic, the battle system looks neat. I might pick it up.

Finally the bomb. I'm not that keen on Legend of Zelda LA remake, although I did get a nostalgic feel watching the trailer. But I guess many people will go bonkers over this news, all those retro/nostalgia lovers for instance.

EDIT:
HAmerican:

Yurp:

Order while it's hot!

EDIT 2: I watched the FE trailer again and I'm actually hyped. It seems as a natural evolution of the series. We have the grooming system, we have monsters (like in FE Echoes and some older games) and the "fight with an actual army" novelty. People are concerned about the story. So am I: it seems a bit generic. But the trailer confirms that after the Pokemon EVs training part, we will get the actual story. While I'm not fond of school life elements in RPG's, Persona series show that it can actually work. And I like the fact your avatar will play the respected badass professor role in the game. And one cannot stop and marvel at the quality of art direction (I don't mean the CGI, I mean the climatic romantic medieval Europe vibe). Now if there would only be laguz here...

You got your direct

I think FE is great. I have yet to play a FE game to be honest, so I am thinking on getting this one.

I was hoping for something Pokemon :/

I have never played the original Legend of Zelda and I think this looks fine as a substitute I am not hating on it, yet.

I wanted so much more fire emblem info!!! I do like the direction three houses seems to be going. I may be reading into things too much, but it almost sounds like you choose one of the three houses at the start? So there’s kinda different versions within the same game! So much replay value! The professor side of things sounds really neat. The anime opening looks great and with me just finishing up persona 5 I completely welcome that! And I’m willing to bet edelguard will be smash DLC

Never played links awakening but that remake looks so good!

I don't think you're wrong. It does seem like you're able to pick, hence three houses would have a deeper meaning I wonder if we will get something like a shared section to get to know all characters and then a pick (kinda like in Fates), or if we will have to choose at the start and if it will be an irreversible choice. I wonder if the story later on is only a model swap + a few extra events or a full blown alternative route. I assume it's the first option. It's also interesting to see if each house will have a unique support characters rooster. That would give us so much replayability...

I'm also pretty certain Edelgard will be a Smash DLC character, although people will rage pretty hard if there will be another FE challanger in the game.

Didn't touch it also, not interested. Tried Pokemon Let's Go demo, but didn't like it. I've got bored with Pokeball throwing pretty fast, but I like the fact you actually see the wild Pokemon now.

But to tell you the truth I really hope Pokemon Gen 8 will finally be a big leap forward, and not simply Let's Go with new Pokemon. I'm hopefull cus it seems the game has been long in the making. I would like to see a big overhaul, Pokken Tournament style graphics for example...

Ofc they might only reveal the logos and dates at this point :/
