Haha, ditto.

I've said it before, but although it saved the series, shifting more to the sim aspect actually made the games worse from my perspctive. Some people are right with saying that it's basically a visual novel with some occasional battles.

With all the potential of the engine and the setting they actually made bland and repetetive battles. The grind aspect was always there, but it felt optional, there was a good balance between progress and fresh fights. This is the first game in which doing battles was actually a chore for me at some point, but I "needed" to do them in order to progress the class masteries (no other way around it sadly). If they keep this up I might actually pass on the next entry. I prefer a good story in FE over "freedom of choices and customization".

PS: Take a look at this INCREDIBLY accurate parody video: So This is Basically Fire Emblem if you haven't seen it yet, and be surprised by how well the video fits the newest entry Although they changed the final baddie dynamic a bit, many things still give you a deja vu feeling (even though some elements have been adressed).

That video is on point haha

I agree that the sim aspect has really only hurt the series. Its annoying that developers cannot just make a game for a specific audience anymore. Everything has to appeal to a wider audience to make more money cause theyre a buisness, blah blah blah..
I would have gladly traded in some of the last few FE games for a low budget, 2D, strategy focused game without all these weird simulators. I'll gladly give up cut scenes and voice acting for it lol. My favorite one still with the best story imo, is FE 7 and it didnt need any of that stuff. Just good writing and some nicely drawn art to tell the story.

I like three houses for what it is though. It was a fun re-imagining of the typical formula for me. I appreciate them trying 'new things' (heavily inspired by persona) while still keeping true to the spirit of the game. I think moving forward if they were to do this style of game again they should either...

a. Go all in on a good story. This one had potential but I feel like it was either rushed at the end or it fell off. whatever happened I was not nearly as invested throughout as I was in persona5, FF games, or any story driven game.

b. Hit the brakes on the world building, cut-scenes, and Free range stuff to focus more on the strategy part of the game. I feel like there was a lot of lore thrown at you in the game. All the students come from their own houses and have their own lands, and yet I don't remember any of them cuz theyre not utilized. They don't have much of an identity like the wyvern riders of Bern In FE 7 or the Laguz in 9 and 10.

I'm glad the game did well commercially. At least I think it did lol. It gotten really good reviews. I'm a super fan of the series so I'll continue to try each game as it comes out. I wasnt a fan of FE echos, which i think was the latest one. And with the way pokemon is looking I was just glad to actually like Three house lol. The switch has been collecting dust Pre-FE days

My guesses:
Overwatch for Switch
Persona Switch
Animal Crossing
Another dlc char for Smash
Pokemon starter evos (bout time)

And for the final "in your face" announcement either Bayo 3 or something new entirely.

EDIT: So the Direct was totally underwhelming...

Remakes and stuff that was expected. I guessed most of the things.
Pros:
- Fatal Fury in Smash & more characters after the initial 5. I think not many people expected this Both Terry and more chars.
- Sakurai's Smash presentation after the direct: he is such a nice guy Also, people will probably freak out about the Sans Mii-costume
Cons:
- Pokemon S&S. 2 months until the game releases and they still didn't show the starter evos. The information this time was scarce overall...
- nothing big was announced, Xenoblade Chronicles is a remake

Super underwhelming!
NOTHING of interest.. I had hoped for so much more.

OW to switch. I love it, but I wont buy it for consoles..

Agree on Pokemon S&S. It was super boring.

I do not know this new Fighter for smash.. I am too young I guess?

And ending with Xenoblade? I know it is a great game, but ending with it?

Underwhelming.

Terry Bogard - maybe you know the name King of Fighters? I don't know the series very well either, but back when I was interested in Neo Geo and various retro fighting games this popped up regulary (I remember even playing it a few times). It is a pretty huge deal, but imo not as big as Sans.

Sans being a Mii costume is a genius move on behalf of Sakurai. Imo the character doesn't exactly have enough material for a full moveset to become a full-fledged fighter (was more of a meme), but they killed two birds with one stone: brought one of the most requested characters into the game, and in a way that didn't need any artificially created movesets, which would seem forced. And the added music piece (Megalovania) fits right into the game. I've bought it mostly for the piece, and for 5 cents, cus I had Nintendo coins Cheapest fighting game character ever

That said most comments I see are rather positive about the direct. For example, apparently NES games via N's online service is a big thing for many people. I actually thought this is a good time to start teasing what comes in 2020, but it seems they were focused on stuff that will be released till the end of the year. I expect huge announcments in the next direct.

Lol a 24-hour stream only to reveal the Galar version Ponyta...

EDIT: Ok, so I've seen the leaked full Galar Pokedex in Sword&Shield. If it's indeed true this must be some of the worse Pokemon designs I've ever seen. And I'm serious. This will postpone my decision to buy the game probably...

EDIT 2: Lol Sakurai dind't include Mai Shiraniu in Smash cus she's too sexy. What times w live in

Anyone here see the newest trailer for Smash's next DLC character?

It's literally just a Ken/Ryu clone with a few different moves.

Like where are they getting these new DLC characters. Cause they are really sucking. It's like they announced 5 upcoming characters, but only had 1 in mind and are now bull******** there way through the remaining 4.

Clearly they have run out of ideas for DLC characters that would actually be good.

I'm sorry Odd but... are you out of your mind!?

Joker - brings Persona 5 to the game, the mc of one of the best RPG's in recent years with a colourful stage, unique animations (Arsene Persona, ultimate smash all-out-attack etc) plus some of the best game music pieces in recent history.

Hero from Dragon Quest - I agree this one wasn't that interesting but fits nicely to Smash's vibe of bringing a lot of beloved franchises to the game. And this one franchise is beloved, oh yes (mostly in Japan, but remember Smash originates from Japan even if USA seems to be most fanatical about the franchise). Plus he has some unique mechanics with the cleverly incorporated spell system.

Banjo & Kazooie - I don't even need to tell you how much this character was requested. It was probably THE most highly requested character (from the ones that are left ofc) as many Smash fans have played the original games as it was a cooperation between Nintendo and Rare. Not only that, the announcement was huge because Microsoft holds the rights to the franchise, so most people didn't belive it could actually happen. And the character itself is quite uniqe to play.

And finally Terry - one of the deepest mechanically and hardest to master characters in the game so far (and remember the game has a huge competetive scene). But most importantly he brings the whole SNK lore with him, a huge chunk of gaming history. The character himself is pretty straightforward in design, but you additionally get 26 cameos and 50(!) SNK/Neogeo tracks into the game (even from Metal Slug). Also it's one of Sakurais beloved franchises, you could even say that without it there wouldn't be Smash as it was an inspiration for him. A lot of players weren't hyped, but they do need to learn some history!

However you look at it, most were at least present on the request lists, usually in top tiers.

For me Smash is not only a great game, but a celebration of gaming in general. If you don't like the DLC's, don't buy them but imo it's fantastic how many nostalgic feels one game can bring to people and how well these franchises are incorporated into it. They fit like they were always belonging there.

And don't worry, 5 more were announced so maybe you will get sth that is not bull* for you

There are ofc some choices dictated by money and agreements (Hero from Dragon Quest series was a promotion of their newest games release on Switch), but Smash always worked this way so it's nothing new. It is now the highest selling fighting game franchises in gaming history, so they are riding on its popularity. But the particualry respectful and clever way the characters are incorporated into it imo deserve praise.

Perhaps I am biased.

Aside from Joker, the other 3 I just don't give a rat's *** about and have never even heard of their franchises.

Man, Byleth was announced as the final Smash character in the first fighter pass, and the community is in an uproar. I usually like them for their enthusiasm, but lost my respect for them now: they are being ridiculous with their salt...

At some point some idiot supposedly leaked the concept of Dante being a character and suddenly everyone wanted him. Yeah I know he is pretty popular in the wish-lists, but didn't know he was suddenly such an obsession.

Sakurai did another entertaining direct, the intro trailer was pretty dope (especially with that self-targeted joke about too many FE characters), and the character him/herself although "another Fire Emblem character" was pretty much a no-brainer at some point. I mean it's a character from one of Nintendo's most successful games of 2019. Not to mention it's not "just another sword character" (yeah, and like Dante isn't "just another guy with a sword") with that whole weapons switching thing: pretty original and captures the spirit of the games main focus point by representing the three houses, while giving the characters a unique fighting style. When you look at it, it's actually a cool character. Not to mention the stage is one of the prettiest I've seen in the game, and they found a great way to incorporate it into Smash.

Sakurai gave the fans so much love with things like Ridley, K-Rool, Banjo etc and now they turn on him like babies who lost their toy... a large part of comments are whining how disappointed and salty they are.

No wonder people say so many negative things about that community.

PS: Ah yes, and the second fighter pack actually has not 5, but 6 more characters

Nowadays I really need simple games that will help me take my mind off things.

Don't want to be rude, but how do you guys not have time to play games while the whole world is sitting in their homes? So many potential activities are unavailable atm...

That said Animal Crossing NH has been dubbed the perfect cure for the times we have now and I can agree. Aside from the fact I needed to use like 500 fish baits to catch that &*!% Stringfish which almost drove me insane, the game is really optimistic and laid back. I didn't play AC games before, and while there are things it should do beter imo I definately understand now what is its appeal, even if it looks like a game for kids or housewives on the outside. Never have I played a game which let's you totally do what you want, and are rewarded for it at every turn...

I was talking 'bout the switch, sorry I didn't mention...

Edit: But for some is still no difference: they still have the same "play" time as before (maybe just a little more).

Yeah I know that you meant by "playing" in general, be it Switch or sth else.

I understand that some people work from home (like me) and that they have families they need to take care of, maybe even more then ever because everyone sits in home. But there are weekends and at the same time in countries like Poland we recently had even more prohibition rules layed upon the society. It's even hard to go for a walk with family now. Some people do enjoy playing games with their family members and, for example, Animal Crossing is ideal to share.

That said I don't want to pry, just curious...
