I have a no cookie acceptance tool -or whatever that is- so every time I visit HC and any other forum I am not signed. You can post when not being logged if your password and nick are present in the respective case -which they are by default. After you post, you will still be unlogged, so is not a matter of logging to post then signing out, is automatic and I never really thought about, for me is convenient. But you need to log in if you want to edit.

Yes, turns out that is the case but unfortunately the trick only works on an actual computer, on the iPad, even if your name and password is present, it will still direct you to "sorry, your name is not in the db" page and you'll have to log in. And since I'm on the iPad like 85-90 percent of the time, doesnt mean much to me.

Oh my word...twas a joke on the old prejudice. C'mon yerself.
Fyi, "I was once asked why I was here playing HoMM at my age."
There was nothing wrong in that...at all. Disability kinda hoses things up.

Btw, no one here likes or dislikes anyone...you have to know people for such things and that best requires a physical presence and generally at least some time together.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I think that's only partially true. You can surely get to know some things about people through how they express themselves online.

If you have other signs of addiction not depicted here, please confess your data as it will help in our research.

Thanks to the signs of addiction reported by fellow members, we are glad to share some insights in our research!

Indeed, we found some possible fixes we would like you to try! Our team of certified experts have worked very hard and could react to some of the reported symptoms:

"HC is the only tab I don't close when I open the dirty tabs"

Cause: Typical Freudian case where you will associate a place you find pleasure to visit with another one.

Quick fix: just minimize the HC window and open another one to separate kinky fetishes with HC ones!

"You had nightmares when the layout changed?"

Cause: Typical Diogenes case and the "feeling at home" syndrome according to our most brilliant psychoanalysts, if you haven't adapted by now please report immediately!

"You take pride in the number of custom avatars you requested, but don't use?"

Cause: Small Grandiosity syndrome triggered by the extra cool res of HC avvies.

Quick fix: Eat some strawberry flavored ice-cream.

"You have a giggling fit whenever someone mentions Snow White, Jon Snow, President Snow...?"

Cause: Auto-censor from HC is hacking into your brain.

Quick fix: Always use asterisks and encourage everyone to do so! Mountains of snow...

"You mean to check a video and you spontaneously search for the HC link instead of searching for it in Youtube"

I personally do this too, the fact you remember exactly where your HC video is and can access to it faster than directly on youtube shows a high addiction status, yet not harmful. Again according to our certified experts.

"you leave a dramatic "i'm leaving" message(or thread), but then come back again?"

Cause: Typical love-hate relationwebsite case according to our experts.

Fix: Buy a big rubber duck and go on the water with it.

"you have proven your point the umpteenth time in a thread, but you need to prove it again ... in the same thread"

The famous NobodywillevergetitbutIwillnevergettiredandwillexplaintotheworldhowrightIamandonedaytheyshallallrecognizeandbowtomygenius syndrom. A very serious issue but we might be on to something with bean curd.

"you start citing users from the forum IRL"

Extremely high and dangerous symptom, reading other things than HC is deeply encouraged!

"You can recognize alt accounts just from the posting style?"

This is ok, as long as HC members aren't the only people you know!

Sadly we could only find remedy for these at that time, but we certainly hope it will help you with your addiction!

If you've replied positive to at least one question you're officially an HC addict, don't be ashamed and join us to talk about it, we're here to help.

- You end up posting only side topic in a thread completely ignoring OP as if it was your turf?

-you join hc when trying to improve your game of homm3, which leads to you take up modding homm3, which leads you to getting so seriously into it that you plan on using the only college degree training earned during your military time, becoming a professional graphics artist, just so you can improve modding for homm3 and the heroes community.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I think that's only partially true. You can surely get to know some things about people through how they express themselves online.

"Back in the day" we had three typical ways of saying we knew someone.  Knew (of) which just meant i.e. we knew where such and such person and what house.

Then there were Acquaintances. These folks you knew something about...co-workers were a difficult maturity for many people because they would assume...these same people were actually "friends" and then get "stabbed in the back". Also you could be "introduced" to someone and maybe know a lot about them but still not "truly" know them. Really knowing someone takes effort and often a great deal of love and tolerance. (both-ways)

Body-language, manners, actual-language, "looks" and other things come to play in all of this. We share intellectual interests here but we cannot challenge white-water in the same canoe.

"Best-friend" is the highest form of knowing + friendship and <imo> not all that common within one life. I have had one my own life but what a friend. Over the years, I have had scads of Acquaintances, lots of friends and I can count best-friends on one hand. 4 to be exact, besides my 2 brothers.

Now toss in "extroverts & introverts" you may think you know either of these and not have a accurate picture of either ...in person.

Stevie we certainly know some stuff about each other here but if it is sometimes difficult to know people face to face (there are life's events or conditions)I think it generally is made even more problematic. There are exceptions but those are not the rule. I guess why my take on this is the way it is...is best stated "being there".
Because there is nothing like "knowing" you can depend on someone else to be-there for you no matter how difficult or terrible the situation. We can certainly (and we do) do that to some measure but would not a hug say much more?

I admit probably the only reason I am here is because I know first hand the younger people today are at risk of knowing little about an elderly mind. So for me its a very cloudy win-win. Though I can only hope what I share as a grandfather matters to someone, and likely will have little proof of that I do have my "Sage-need" met to a limited degree (I'd much prefer you & I were sitting around a campfire and I was making you a single-skillet breakfast) by just typing something like this.

<imo> Text is the most un-forgiving way to communicate - that's why emoticons were developed. The electronic-age will make bigger strides is overcoming some of the obstacles but thankfully I will be long dead. I am already a fish-out-of-water and just doing the best I can...which is a quick description that fits most of us.

For me, seeing a pic or vid of a person will never be seeing the person. I am hard-wired a different way.

Cheers all

Talk about being hooked, I'd actually would want to meet a good bunch of you in real life.

Even though in some cases that would leave me in a cheap motel in a slum in Eastern Europe, too intoxicated to know how I ended up there.

@Fred: Win lol, also once you master 3d modelling you can find jobs that should be nicely paid, like working with architects if not in video games, you know, as a side-thing.

@All: Don't forget to report more signs of addiction, also, feel free to contest my team of certified experts if you feel like they **** up, I pay them a fortune!
