My Last Post At HC

My Last Post At HC

I know some here do not like “last posts” but I disagree because I think in a digital age, “the Human-Spirit” behind any and every form of “Community” MUST be better represented than by using Smiley’s and our habitual casual dismissals and final vanishings.

I’ve thought a lot about what would be my Swansong for this community, no matter how obscure or unimportant as some have implied, in an effort to leave, as I began, after <imvho> the demise of HoMM, post H5.

I thoughtfully landed at a single word that now means more to my understanding towards what matters to our collective future than most people, including myself for much of my life, might have in their sights and I think it needs some very serious attention.

Stewardship. It is a word out of the Bible but since I did not make my fare-thee-well from the Christianity thread, that decision hopefully will spark from anyone here, an interest in what follows.

For those that yet have a seeking-mind. Read in the New Testament {Luke 16: 1-13}

However, I am not talking about a segment of humanity here, I am talking about a very serious responsibility for each one of us and we each need to both understand the meaning of this word and strive for it, all the days of our life.

How does the definition of this word read in say Webster’s? It covers women on planes showing people to their seats or men on ships worrying about ship/crew-needs etc. So, by Webster’s - Stewardship is nothing more than a trivial matter regarding Travel.

In the mid-80s I frequented a Sports-bar once or twice weekly for a couple of years. This bar&grill had very good burgers, finger-foods etc. and my beer on tap. There was a long-running Taco-Tuesday that always jammed the place. There were other “special meal-nights” and talk of this successful business expanding or moving to a larger spot had grown common.

Then...my daughter went to work there for some money for college. From the first, my daughter related to me stories about the owner’s Trophy-wife and of her belittling treatment of the workers there. I told my daughter that she should quit, that I, in no way, would I work there. Shortly after, she did quit and of course I had ceased to go to this establishment ever again. Not long after, the KC Headlines read that the place was a “front” for a large cocaine ring and the owner was eventually imprisoned.

The only thing I want to point out about that experience is that I was supposed to be a Christian and yet I was supporting a greedy self-centered couple (I’m leaving nearly everything out) and why? Good beer and good food.

Zooming back out...what could be learned from that obscure reality?

I suggest the following. This world runs on Money….period. And what you do with your money is your investment towards Companies, Organizations and other Institutions as well as on the People-front etc.

Okay, I need to get Christian again for a moment. I was told by ignorant people that knew very little about who they professed they followed, that the magic-number for contribution to the Church was a tithe of 10% of your income. Many churches I “briefly” encountered even had envelopes for “easy contributions”.

Back to world-wise markkur again. Why did I bring that up? Reason out that grand idea.

1. If I want 10% to “do good” what the hell am I doing with the other 90%?! The eternal battle of Good vs Evil is down 1 to 9 from the most pious?

From the witness of my own life and the lives of all around me, granting they have any concept in their brains about needing to give the “10% for Good works” that means by the ticking-clock as the years roll on, in general, American society has thumped their generous chests because they were spending 1 designated dollar to make the world better while spending 9 dollars without any thought...to support who knows what?

My “tithes” went directly to visible needs and that was usually out of the comfy confines of any organization. Because all organizations are lead by people and those people generally only pass on a little of what they gather, the rest is for themselves and their friends...one way or another.

Back to the word Stewardship. This word is far deeper than coin or traveling seats. I think it covers each of us entirely...unless of course we can say we care nothing about our wife or girl-friend, care nothing about families or communities, care nothing about Politics, care nothing about the health of our Society or the future of our Nation and further the fate of the entire World. If a self-centered person can say all that? Then they are stewards of their own absolute destruction.

I am not going to rant on about this because I’ve seen most of my contributions in the past as merely talking about things that I think matter to us all, to get any reader engaged and thinking. And maybe even more passionate about something that does matter to the person is some other way.

* We are stewards of the Earth.

i.e. Just one area; Start noticing how Corporations package food and all products and witness their “target”. You are their focus and your “ease” is the target. Pill-bottles that are 4 times larger than they need to be? Why? Because they want you to “think” you are getting much more than you are paying for.

How about “Throw-away” everything now? Or Bags of candy made more fancy with “individually-wrapped.” Water, Pop & Beer now in plastic bottles and we throw away what? A billion bottles a year globally? I don’t know the actual numbers...the point is this “future waste” should not be “Manufactured” in the first place. On and on this rolls, while some of us attempt to recycle, while huge Multi-National Corporations pump out whatever they please and we have no voices. That needs to change...and NOW.

* We are stewards of each other.

Christ is my answer to this fact. However, whatever you believe you need to explore and learn the depths of what it means to care for others outside your obvious family circle. Blood is Blood and even Blood needs the Spirit to be the life-force.

I can give no solutions, other than what I already have but there is a serious need for a paradigm shift on most of America anyway. Since in many ways the rest of the world is following in our steps that is horrifying to me.

I’m done now. I’ve enjoyed so many of you here that I cannot make a list though I would like to.

No matter the amount of contact, every person here is important to someone somewhere and no one is every truly alone unless they make it so.

Love & Joy to you, enough to overcame any obstacle that may come your way on the narrow path.

markkur

Edit= I'll will briefly check back to read any of your sentiments but will make no further posts. I really do need to be a better-steward of my time from here on.

Hey ho, no, c'mon, what's with this deal? Last post? Noooo.

Will you really leave me here alone with artu?

Why'd you leave anyway, you count here. OK there are some expendable members in HC (like me, obviously) but you have a positive impact here, and thus this OP shouldn't be your last post Marc.

"Last Posts" are never the last, rather they're a sign of a wish to be seen and felt sympathy with.

I kinda have nothing bad to say otherwise - we're kinda on the same side I guess. Bless you man. If others here blast you for having an opinion - let them. We're the remnants of a dying community anyway - dying because of the effects of identity-less global consumerism (Ubisoft's games) - not much to fight for anyway...

Regarding the topic of your post, myself I like the German author Röpke's views on capitalism and society. The kind of liberal conservative I see myself as would strive for empowering small-scale natural communities as opposed to modern globalist capitalism. There is an innate value in - for example - having the products you buy produced locally by people you recognize rather than by anonymous big corporations half across the globe. One of the reasons is exactly what you point out: Stewardship, we feel a responsibility for our craft and the family/society and the soil that God has placed us upon. That immaterial value easily gets taken away by pure profit-seeking.

Actually Cultural Marxism and Neoliberalism are in many ways two sides of the same coin: they're both championed by rich people in the cities, they both view man as an identity-less being that can be 'filled' with a number of things (genders, family, identities, subcultures etc), not as a link between past and present and a result of his/her family and tribe. Which would obviously be the biblical way to see him/her. It's also not a coincidence that they've accelerated at the same time in some parts of the world, such as in my own country where (sometimes savage) foreigners get preferential treatment from the welfare state in CM hands and the result is depleted services for 'natives', high unemployment and lots of cash for the people owning asylum centres.

As for conservative alternatives to modern globalist capitalism, this could be an interesting read: Distributism

...

We have this story, taking place somewhere in a muslim nation in middle ages, maybe Persia, I don't remember. It tells about a caliph (IIRC) who asked his most talented jeweler to craft him a jewel that would reverse his mood. A jewel that would make him sad when his happy, and happy when he is sad.

The jeweler forged him a ring on which was written in Arabic: "Lâ shay-on yadoom"
which means: "nothing lasts forever".

So when he was happy, he would read his ring, and remember that his happiness is temporary, and then feel sad. And when sad, he would read it and remember that his sadness is temporary and then feel happy again.

For me, life is worthless I won't lie to any of you on that. I do dislike it for reasons like that, that tendency it has to last very little. Nothing is ever acquired in it, nothing is granted, not even that the sun will shine tomorrow. Never take anything for granted. That's what I've been taught. Because our life comes after.

Your posts have been the hardest to read for me but I always read them, they are coloured orange if you want to know. But they were great.

I hope we meet again. Until then, please take the black plastic bag in which I packed the troll, leave it somewhere in the Apalach or something. Thanks in advance.

Salaam

There's a lot that I could say that I'll skip (I think most of us can guess anyway ), but this particular part jumped out at me:
Quote:
I think it covers each of us entirely...unless of course we can say we care nothing about our wife or girl-friend, care nothing about families or communities, care nothing about Politics, care nothing about the health of our Society or the future of our Nation and further the fate of the entire World. If a self-centered person can say all that? Then they are stewards of their own absolute destruction.
That's all very well, but uninformed or misinformed caring is a vice - it's often worse than simply doing nothing. Suppose you're paranoid and you think that prescription drugs are poison, so when you see a woman about to take some medication, you snatch it from her hand and throw it down the drain. It turns out to have been her heart medicine and she dies as a result of your actions. You cared about her, but you harmed her nevertheless, but if you were apathetic and had left her alone, she'd have been fine.
That sounds like a ridiculously unrealistic example, and it is. But that's how a lot of people act when it comes to political and cultural issues: they think that what matters is having the right attitude, and the rest will take care of itself. But this is very much far from the truth, and they do considerable damage by going along with what seems intuitively good to them. Of course, becoming informed is hard and many people have better things to do. Nothing wrong with that. But then they should set aside their caring and go about the ordinary business of their lives, not do the equivalent of surgery with a rusty fork.

Well, Markkur, I remember you dropping a HCM about leaving and then coming back some while ago, so I hope this is yet another similar occasion. If not, goodbye and I wish you all the best, dear friend. This place will be certainly less interesting without you.

@AntVaati

It doesn't come off as a surprise that a "tribalist" is not the most comprehensive person when it comes to processing new information but for the third time, there is no political doctrine or even a hypothetical categorization which makes sense or a real group of people who define their ideology as Cultural Marxism. If you are going to associate any egalitarian tendency with Marxism, then, the Declaration of Human Rights or the French Revolution or the U.S. Constitution or even the Magna frigging' Carta were all Marxist developments. Multiculturalism is a liberal concept, not Marxist. Oh, and if you are indeed a Jew living in France, it would be nice to remember that only 75 years ago, people who shared your sentiments over there were thanking the Nazis for "at least solving out the Jewish problem," handing them out to the Gestapo, meanwhile, it was the "multiculturalists" of those days who were helping your ancestors to hide in their basements etc. Since you're so much into "linking the past and the present" and all that...

I'd suggest a speech recognition software, but I'm quite sure your old cantankerous self would just go mad at the unavoidable errors that tend to appear along the line, garbling your sentences and forcing you to correct stuff, so I don't.

So it's with some sadness that I wish you all the good things this next part of your journey may have in store for you.
