OK experts. I have few questions that can be useful:
-The genesis of the world, according to Slavic mythology?
-Who were the Seven against Thebes, in Greek mythology?
-Description of the conflict between Seth and Osiris, and how it unfolded?
-What is Ragnarok, and what will happen after that?

And something I dont know, but would like to (some general facts):
-Anything about Native American mythology
-Anything about Celtic mythology

Ragnarok is supposed to be the end of the world, when the Aesir (to use their English name) and their army of einherjer will fight an army of jotner, the Middle Earth Worm, the Fenris Wolf, and stuff like that.
Most of the gods, and humas will be killed, but some few will survive, and those will found a new humanity, or something like that.

It's worth noticing that before Ragnarok, the Fimbulwinter will take place. This is an extremely cold winter, where many will die.

Canadians beware! Ragnarok is upon you.

Correct answer. AOM taught me that one.

I could probably add a little something about Indian (Native American) mythology as well. It's maybe 10 years since I learned this in school, so it may be a little spotty, but I'll try anyway.

One time, the wife of the Sky King pissed her husband off, which lead to her being thrown out of the cloud castle. She fell and fell and fell, but someone had spotted her.
Some kind of animal had seen her being thrown out, and now this animal was trying to get the giant turtle to come up to the surface. The giant turtle did, and so al the other animals started throwing earth up on the shell of the giant turtle, so that when the Sky Queen landed, she landed on the earth, instead of in the water, and this saved her life.

Now, in the process of trying to save the Sky Queen, the animals had created the World. The King, who had forgiven his wife, showed his gratitude by planting lots of plants, including the tobacco plant, on the World that now lay on the shell of the turtle.

And so they lived happily ever after, until the white man came and killed them all off.

I'd best not mention that game again, for it's not exactly a myhtological enciclopedia. Plus, terje din a really good job on explaining, and I think he deserves more than just to be equaled to a game!

And about Ragnorok, keep in mind that it was the battle of the end of the world: the valkyries and the einhars (it may not be corectly spelled, but I use the Romanian form of the word, which I try to translate into English), the warrior that reached Walhalla, were to do battle with the mythological creatures of Loki. It's not the battle that's hard, but the things they had to endure, like Firembuler, to reach it. I think that separated heroes wanna-be from the real thing!

Nice to see someone taking interest in Slavic mythology. I can send you materials, but half of them are in english and half in Slovenian. If you can understand Slovenian, they are quite useful, as they have nice pictures. Give me your e-mail (IM or public) and I'll send you them. Where are you from anyway?

Thank you Svarog, please send me the english versions, perhaps i can understand slovenian since my mother tongue is Macedonian, so you could send them both.

thanks in advance

Its basically set wanted to kill the son of Issis and Osiris who was the heir of the throne.

Osiris and Set were brothers. Osiris married their sister Isis, and due to that all the faroes were marrying their sisters.

Set also married the other sister.

Set managed to kill the son of Issi and Osiris. He turned his body in to pieces and throw it in the diferent parts of the world. Isis sets on a jurney and collects the peices of her son, so will come back to life again.
But he turned to a phoenix (one of the origins of the phoenix).

The world is suppose to await the final battle between Set and the son of Isis (i don't remember the name)

I hope i managed to explain a bit ?

Well The Seven Against Thebes were 7 known heroes in ancient Greece. The story begins when Oidopodas (I dont know the english words for some names and places)(Oidipodas was the mythological king of Thebes who solve the Sphink's riddle, killed his father and married his mother)(->ask me for more details about this story)exiled himself after removing his eyes for the things he had done. Then his 2 sons Eteokles and Polyneikes considering which one will rule Thebes agreed to share the throne.that meant that the one year Eteokles ruled and the other year Polyneikes did and vice versa.so the year passed and Polyneikes asked his brother to hand him over the throne. He refused and Polyneikes left Thebes and went to Argos where he married the king Adrastos's daughter. Then Adrastos gathered a party of 7 men(one per gate of Thebes)-himself,Polyneikes,Tydeas,Amfiaros(oracle of Argos),Kapaneas(king of Mykenes),Ippomedontas from Tyrinth and Parthenopaios from Arcadia-to lead a campaign against the Thebes. When the reached the borders Tydeas went to Thebes to neaggosiate and make Eteokles hand over the throne to his brother.Thebes refused and then he challenged the bravest men of Thebes to compete him in several sports. He did won the contest and then returned to the camp after killing those who ambushed him after the games. So Thebians with Fokaies and Flegkaies Battled the invaders under the hill of Ismineio, where they were defeated and forced to retreat back to Thebes. There six generals -Melanippos,Megareas,Polyfontas,Aktoras,Lasthenis,Ypergos-and Eteokles were guarding the seven gates to Thebes. In the following battle the 2 brothers killed each other in a duel-in front of the gate that personally Eteokles was guarding. After many years the desendents of the 7 campaigned once again against Thebes, conquered it and made Polyneikes's son,Thesandros, king of Thebes.

If there are any kind of questions or you want anything else just say so!

Unicorn, nice summary of the Set vs. Osiris myth, but you've got some minor stuff confused.
Set wanted to kill Osiris, not his son. Other than that, its true that Osiris, Seth and Isis were all siblings. And that Set kills Osiris and scatters the pieces. Then Isis gathers them (except his phallus, if i remember correctly; she lost it in the Nile ), and with the help of Anubis (god of emblaming) returns Osiris into life. In the meanwhile her son Horus goes and kills Seth and becomes the ruler of the world. After that Osiris becomes God of the underground (with it - the crops) and regeneration.

Satyros, thank u 2 for the "interesting" summary of that myth. Reminded me why I never remember it, no matter how many times I read it.

U still've got the Slavic genesis question left, experts, or shall I give u that?

Thank you for the offer, but the Greek mythology is a classic one, it has had an enormouse impact on art, architecture and litrature. So in a way, at least I feel that I know a bit of it. But the other mythologies, like slav, Kelts, ect are like unread book that waits to be discovered.
