Poll Question:
Would you enjoy the idea of a RPG style HoMM 3 map?

Hey, as the title suggests, would you enjoy the idea of a RPG style HoMM 3 map?

I've been tinkering with such a map for a while now (it's far from finished) but I am hesitating to finish it because I'm not sure if people who play HoMM 3 will like the idea.

The idea is simple: you got one hero, and you got to go trough all sorts of scenario's and achieve a goal to claim victory. During the travels you will be able to choose some 'good or evil' decisions which will alter your hero's spells and creatures and even brings you to some different areas on the map.

You don't have any income early on (maybe I'll add mines further in the scenario) and you can't recruit any units from towns, all that can be obtained are mercenaries and some dwellings. Every area has a main objective that needs to be done to push on, but there are also various 'side quests'.

Would you play such a map? If yes, which elements would you like to see in it?

If no, please explain below.

A lot of the story is written with a 'wink', it's nothing too serious.

Depending on the outcome I'll know whether it's worth it to continue creating the map or not . here are some screenies to get an idea of the map (it's far from completed yet), and I'm only an amateur map maker.

Thanks for your time!

AH I haven't touched WoG myself yet (it looks great but was very confusing to start with for me). I guess I should give it another try, I never encountered such a map on SOD or HOTA though

WoG is no doubt the awesome platform for any RPG map, it has many RPG style features shoved in to Heroes 3 lol

check out the WoG campaign Last Hope for a very high quality introduction to WoG lol

Yes we like it. See this thread:

See Jared Haret adventures.
I think will be good non linear story. No one road to go.

I love good adventure map.

One thing to consider when doing such map is army management. There are plenty of XL adventure type maps with ton of army. However there are very few maps where army is not abundant. I loved that aspect of the WoG campaign 'adventure time', and I have only seen two other adventure maps with no infinite supply of army.

It is probably a more annoying map type to balance, but it also poses more of a challenge

Cheers,

Not sure why everyone recommends him WoG, he made it clear that he isn't using WoG. WoG is using erm to simulate complex role playing stories -or anything else, SoD/Hota can't do that and their editor didn't get any new options.

However, there are a few SoD maps to recommend, especially Corribus 's ones, the latest were for wog but a lot were made for Ab/SoD. Take a look -for example- to Gold Heart if you want to get a feeling of what can be explored into RPG style, but keep in mind that he had also great experience from H2 as well, then he is one of the most inspired authors.
