Well I would still like to know what's going on with me trying to comeplete a setup of a random game which I posted a few above, I haven't been able to get it to work yet and I don't think I've changed anything other than downloading that files.

Why use old version of hd mod?
You shouldn't need to download any template files. http://i.imgur.com/yg9fBDO.png?1 Use the dropdown menu at the top left to select the template.
Set "computer only players" to 1-3. Jebus is for a max of 4 players. Typical settings is XL-U, fast road, no water, strong monsters.

As mentioned before I would do the campaigns first, especially if you don't mind the reading you can experience the game in all its glory as it was intended for the first time players.
After completing the campaigns I would go on youtube and search some videos of full games that players played against each other on the hardest difficulty, seeing them actually play will teach you better than any text guide imo. Have fun  I wish I can rediscover the game from the start  For any specific question you can add me on Steam/GoG (p4e4c) and I'll be more than happy to answer them there.

I'm going to do the campaign for giggles.
Curious, does it matter updating it or not? I was told the updated version has a lot more errors in it.

Not sure what you mean by updated campaigns, if you're talking about a custom update for a harder difficulty someone is doing on this forum, they only have 1.5 campaigns done (image blocks you click on not the whole campaign) and they start from Armageddon's blade you have a whole Restoration of Erathia campaign to play first.
Honestly imo you're just trying hard to ruin your own experience with the game, it's most enjoyed when you're first time discovering new maps/creatures/effects and not playing like a machine that is trying to maximize every movement point and minimize every lost peasant as some top players are doing.
Few months down the track when you have experienced everything this game has to offer then you should go and try to play at the professional level which will once again spark your initial interest by teaching you an entire new way on how to play.
Lastly, when that gets boring introduce yourself with WoG mod.

No updating, I just meant like someone said why am I using an old version of HD and I don't know what that means...
So just to be sure, the first one is Restoration, the second is Armageddon and the last one is shadow right? I'm just going to have some fun for now and learn everything.

Old version of HD Mod is important if you play under ERA platform. If you using HotA or Heroes Complete, you can safely update HD mod.
