E3 2017

ALERT: Incoming E3. Prepare Uranus.

Once a year, when the heat of the summer makes this world confortable for the demons to rise from Hell itself, hordes of evil videogame companies launch a Black Crusade to unleash indescribable hordes of horrors upon their demented cultist, who can only scream in terror while their souls are ravaged by the blackest demons.

This year, 2017, this twisted ritual will take place from 10 of June to 13 of June. The dark armies of Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Bethesda, the PC Gaming Show, Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo are already prepared to reveal videogames which in no way they would publish before the next E3.

May the God-Emperor of Mankind (also known as Jon Van Caneghem) have mercy on our souls. Prepare the Exterminatus over Holy-Terra itself, in case we fail to contain this kreegan invasion. The Holy Inquisition of the Imperium will be fighting until the last man to keep at bay this horrors.

By the way, my name is Titvs Renardus, member of the Ivory Tower. My Forum is in ruins. The Internet it's at war, its forums under siege. Heresy spreads, it consumes us all. Here I will make my final stand, here they will meet their purging.

BROTHERS, RETRIBUTION IS AT HAND. LET HATE BE YOUR SWORD, LET DISGUST BE YOUR ARMOUR. THE HERETICS SHALL NOT PASS!!!

Here, in this post, we will document each threat as they are revealed. Please tell us from where do you fear a bigger attack. Which videogame? Which company? We must coordinate in order to survive and to annihilate each unholy heresy.

FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!

We already have and advantage, our spies have revealed the planned hour for each attack. I will put the hour at Greenwich (warn me if the data is wrong).

Electronic Arts - Saturday 10 - 20h
Microsoft - Sunday 11 - 22h
Bethesda - Monday 12 - 5h
PC Gaming Show - Monday 12 - 18h
Ubisoft - Monday 12 - 21h
Sony - Tuesday 13 - 2h
Nintendo - Tuesday 13 - 17h

I can already hear the laments of their developers.

P.S.: Remember, hope leads to disappointment. Disappointment leads to heresy. Trust nothing you see.

E3 has only started but I already see some interesting things (so far games that have been announced a bit earlier though).

Star Wars Battlefront II looks neat and this time around I'm interested as it has a campaign. Probably short but I might rent it for instance.

And call me surprised but I'm interested in a Need for Speed game (Payback) something I didn't feel for a long time.

I'm probably most excited for Sony conference (mainly God of War and Read Dead Redemption 2 maybe?) and Nintendo one (Fire Emblem Switch news?). It's weak that we must wait so much time for them...

I was following the EA conference and the big takeaways for me were also SW Battlefront 2 and that new NFS game. I would've loved to add Anthem too, but I can't make a call from a simple teaser. However, they did promise more info tomorrow, so I'll reserve my judgment for then. The sports segment with FIFA, NBA, NFL and the like flew completely under my radar, never was interested in the bunch.

Then, what was that game from that movie director, A Way Out? "Can only be played in split-screen"? In 2017? As the E3 panelists put it - interesting. Really, what's the appeal point of that? I mean, one dev department gets asked for single-player campaign and another says let's make a co-op only game?! I don't get it.

Also, Origin games free for a week for those interested, and I hope I heard that right.

So it begins, the Gates of Hell are open and the smoke is coming out.

Well, you three already tell what it is important, but anyway:

Mediocre conference, almost only sports games. What they showed about other games (like Battlefront 2) was already known. The only interesting thing was "A Way Out", although it doesn't feel like a good idea to me to have to play with splited screen... it's going to turn a bit confusing.

Anyway, during this night we will have Microsoft and Bethesda. I hope those two show better things.

Microsoft's conference was quite nice but it didn't blow me away. Of course some of the new games on Xbox One X look spectacular even (or at least on the trailers) but it's more of an issue with their genres.

Forza is Forza, Ori looks incredible, so is Artful Escape and The Last Night, but those are games I rather won't pick up.

It's nice that they're doing the backwards compatibility (Classic Xbox!?)/4K enchantments programs.

Anthem looks really interesting (I like the exosuit bit), but it looks like a multiplayer oriented game so I'll pass.

Will those games make me buy an Xbox? I doubt it but who knows.

Won't make me buy any Xbox anytime soon, that's for sure. Just upgraded to a high-end PC so on that end the conference was missing me as a customer right from the get-go. That said, a lot more impressive games showcased compared to EA yesterday, most of which I expect to be released for PC as well. Forza, Metro, dare I say even Assassin's Creed? Not sure if Dragon Ball FighterZ is a console exclusive, but it looked pretty good nonetheless. And of course, Anthem, which frankly is visually stunning, but I'm worried about the gameplay, especially since it fancies itself as an MMO.

The indie games were frankly a breath of fresh air. Ori sequel seems great and it makes me regret a bit that I never got to play the first installment. Cuphead gets a release date, I was honestly wondering if it was scrapped at some point. But yea, platformers galore and what else.

I'm a bit disappointed how the spotlight seems to be taken by all these showy genres, RPGs, FPSs, MMOs, racing games, etc. Where's the strategy at? The TBS? Or is it that they're not front cover material anymore? I can't remember the last time I saw a presentation for a game like Heroes or Civilization and whatnot.

Can you cut it out with the righteous indignation? What's so bad about paid mods? People will have an incentive to invest time and resources in their mods because they can monetize them if they wish to.

Don't you remember when they tried that on Steam??? It didn't last a day, and the outrage was huge.

Of course I do, and the reason I disagreed with it then was because of the unfair shares and Bethesda + Valve's greed, not because of the idea of paid mods itself. Getting paid for your work is ideal, so I think it's a step in the right direction. But there's a lot of issues to tackle with so getting there is not that simple. However, the idea that mods should be free is consumer entitlement, not something justified.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. These genres dominated the game industry, so we need to look elwhere. PC Gaming Show presented a few promising titles: X-Com 2 expansion or TW Warhammer II (I would so like to play this but I need a supercomputer). Also, although it's a multiplatform title, Wargroove looks interesting.

Saw a glimpse of Age of Empires Definitive Edition too. Yea, seems producers and developers regard it as a niche market, not front seat material. Which is fine by me, just as long as some good TBS break the ice once in a while to keep everyone satisfied.

EDIT:
That said, Ubisoft just started their press conference with a Mario + Rabbids tactical turn-base game. My life is complete

As much as I dislike Ubisoft they had the most interesting conference so far I think. Skull & Bones looks really interesting (Empire Total War Naval battles but in close up), the toy-ship game actually looks neat (even if I won't play it) and Far Cry 5 got my attention even more. And they even dropped the bomb at the end. I actually didn't even play Beyond Good and Evil, but it's next entry was one of the Holy Grails of gaming industry, so I can only imagine what a response it will bring...

Eh, Sony? The lag was unbearable so I couldn't enjoy the show they were putting on too much. But apart from that.. em, what? So there's God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Spooderman, that zombie game, that droid game, Destiny 2 and that's pretty much it as far as my interest and memory goes. Underwhelming.

Sony conference was really weak. Only God of War caught my interest, and the game itself got me worried, cause this whole father and son theme seems to have made Kratos loose his fang. This game was about pure brutality and now it's what? About family bonding?

Nintendo on the other hand... Wow just wow!

- 'Core' Pokemon RPG in the making (good it's finally confirmed)

- Metroid Prime 4... snow yeah!

[Sure, we literally didn't get any info about those two above but they're confirmed, it's enough for me now.]

- a main Kirby game for Switch is also a good thing

- and lastly Super Mario Oddysey... First I wanted to buy the game just cause it's, you know, Mario main game. But now I want to buy it simply because it looks incredibly fun. The 'posses' mechanic looks incredible.

EDIT: Oh they've also showed a Metroid 2 remake for 3DS...
Even though I wanted more (especially a 'main Fire Emblem' trailer) This really makes me happy I bought this console.
