- They folk usually offered an empty granary for us, passing grovekeepers to spend the nights in, so it shouldn't be a problem. Way better than sleeping in one of our dugout cabins - Morn said. Evening was soon approaching , so the group kept a brisk pace while walking towards the village. It was a couple of leagues away. After a few hours of walking, they reached it.
As morn said, there were several rather large, mastiff like dogs, which barked loudly as the group made their way into the village. As they entered the village, they were greeted by the village folk wielding harpoons, pitchforks, schytes, as well as snarling dogs.
- The grovekeepers been here today already to take their tithe- One of the villagers said, most likely the village elder, despite being no older than Morn.
- We're here on another errand - Morn replied. - We seek shelter for the night and a boat to Kingstadd.
- Aye, that could be arranged. You're no doubt hungry? We can't give you much though, but we do have some of the smoked cod caught a few weeks ago.
- Anything would do - Morn said, as he noticed the villagers were lowering their weapons and taking their dogs away. Soon after, the village elder led them to the granary that morn spoke of, and a few moments later they were given two of the smoked cods that the elder promised. Combined with the rations that the group had, it made for a modest dinner.
- I shall ferry you to Kingstadd personally on the morrow - The elder said while departing.

As the morning dawned, so too the village came to life. The men were preparing their boats
Morn and the others got up early as well, and after a quick breakfast went to find the village elder. He and two of his men were just finishing the preparations of their vessel. Besides the sail, there were several oars as well. Inside of the boat there was a trawler net and some fishing-baskets as well.
- Ready to depart?- The village elder asked.
- Aye - Morn replied. - How long it'll take?
- The wind's good, I'd say you'll be in Kingstadd by late noon if we take off now.
- Let's not waste anymore time then - Morn said as he and the others climbed aboard the boat. It was old no doubt, and has seen many usage over the years, but it seemed to be well maintained overall.
The sailing itself was highly uneventfull, and as the village elder said, they reached the Capital of Westerlands with the sun still in the sky.
Morn had payed the man with few gemstones from the Blackstone Fortress as to compensate for the trouble taking the group to Kingstadd. The port to which they docked, was on the very outskirts of the city, well outside it's walls. This port was used as a port for trading with the inland kingdoms. Indeed there were few of Nornheimi longships ,known as knaars docked in the nearby piers of the port.
- We should go to the southern port - Aellis said while touching her Black Ring, It was still very cold to the touch. - We should be able to find someone to take us to Aleria from there.

Cassador was examining his shield. It was very durable, yet lighter than his previous one.
- "What is the material used to craft this shield?" - Cassador wonders.

- An alloy of some sorts, used by the Old Ones extensively in their armor and weapons. - Zayl said. - But what metals are used to produce it are beyond us at this moment. But none the less, the properties of the alloy itself are also astounding. As you no doubt felt, the shield, as well as the armor pieces are ligther than your conventional steel. It is also far more durable and does not catch rust. A blade forged from this alloy also retains it's edge far longer than steel does.

"If fortune favors us, maybe we'll find a whole lot more in the next fortress, and I'm certain it'll fetch quite a price with the smiths who'd do anything to get their hands on the material", Hassic mused, "But we should make sure that we sell our loot from beforehand while we're still here, just to lighten the load and get aditional supplies.  Who knows what's the state in Aleria currently?"

- I'm sure you heard the tales, like the most of us did - Morn said.- But how many of them is the truth, no one can say.
moments later they passed through the city gate. In the distance, to their left, the King's castle could be seen. It was a building built from boulders as well as red brick. Right near it one  could see the twin towers of the Grand Basilica of The Light, it's bells ranged, inviting the townsfolk for an evening mass.
Aellis noticed that the group was followed by two people, cutpurses most likely. Her hand rested on the fake flute tied to her belt, where the largest of her hidden daggers rested. As one of the would be thieves moved in closer to her, Aellis in a swift move stabbed him in the leg, and unsheathed her sword to face the other, who unfortunately fled, upon seeing his accomplice getting stabbed.
- Allright, what you're after? - She asked the injured thief.
- The loot, which that one spoke of! what else?
- And you thought it would be wise to attack a group that outnumbers you, eh? Wrong choice buddy. The guild's went down it seems.
- I know you! You're the one who betrayed the guild and went to work for the inquisition - the thief said clearly, so everyone nearby heard.
- I didn't betrayed nothing, Aellis said. Afterwards she finished the thief off by slitting his throat.
- So, you serve this Inquisition... - Zayl began, calmly. - We did has suspicions that they would send someone to keep tabs on us. What's your aim girl?
- I was to report your activities. if you do anything dangerous, I'm to finish you off.
- Very good. Carry on with your duty then, but you won't be finishing anyone off. We have no intentions to harm this dying world.

- Didn't you saw that the basterd ran off like a bloody spooked rabbit? - Aellis responded. - sod it. The thieves' guild is pretty much dead by this point anyways, not a lot of them good ones left. Most moved on.
- Like to the Inquisition?- Morn asked. He barely got a glimpse at the would be robbers, and that too was when one took off without any loot in his pockets, and due to people coming from all places, Morn couldn't get a clear shot from his bow.
- Most likely, aye - Aellis said. - I've heard some of them went off to try their luck in Araraq, got their heads filled with horsedung about troves of treasure left behind. The poor saps must be likely dead by now. But the Alerian is right, the sod will alert the few others, so watch your purses. There's a jeweler I know nearby, we can sell off the goods to him.

The jeweler that Aellis mentioned was more than happy to buy off all of the gemstones taken from the Fortress, and the group left his store with much heavier coinpurses. The jeweler's shop was nearby the southern port of Kingstadd, so there were plenty of ships docked, and supposedly captains willing to take some passengers aboard to Aleria.
Unfortunately though, picking were slim. Nearly each and every captain had refused to take the expedition to Aleria, despite Zayl tossing a full bag of gold onto their tables. All except one. A norn captain had agreed to take the group to Aleria, and happily accepted the sum of gold that Zayl brought forth, more so, that the sorcerer promised more on arrival.
It appeared that this norn, named Ragnar Brokkson was a leading an expeditionarry force of ten warships to Aleria, after his brother went missing on a voyage there.
Before the sun set, the group decided to split up and buy supplies. Morn headed straight to the Grovekeepers' granary in order to procure some supplies for the journey. Aellis went to see a smith, to purchase a new dagger or two, and afterwards with two new blades, she went to the Inquisitorial palace to report on her findings.

The inquisition palace was located in a vacant city house, once inhabited by a low rank nobles, who died during the epidemic. Afterwards, the house was scrubbed clean, and repurposed to be used as the Headquarters of the Inquisition in Kingstadd. Aeliss went to see her direct superior, an eldermy man, formely one of the Paladins of the Lightsworn.
- Ah, Inquisitor MacGuinne. Something to report?
- Aye milord. We've delved into the Blackstone Fortress near Cragow.
- And...?
- The Wizard seems to be gathering knowledge about a race of people that he refers to as "The Old Ones". The fortress held an artefact of some sorts that gave him the knowledge to understand their language. We've also ran into some... Lizard people. The wizard called them L'Taah. There was a battle. We killed them off. He was only after that device, and allowed us to loot the fortress freely. We've found gemstones jewelry, few bits of armor, and a hoard of precious metal ingots, gold and platinum mostly.
- Interesting. What about his other companions?
- Well, we have a grovekeeper along side us, two sellswords and one of the Lightsworn. Paladin by the looks of it.
- Hmmm... Is that so? Very interesting. What would a grovekeeper and a paladin of all things would be doing with him?
- I don't know about the paladin, but the grovekeeper thinks that these fortresses can hold the knowledge or a means to end the famines. Ser... We've saw the grain along the roads. they're withering.
- I know. We've got reports of that from nearly all our field agents. What is the ulterior motive of this wizard?
- As far as I can tell, he only hoards knowledge. The way he talks about these "Old Ones"... It's like an obsession. It would seem he's trying to uncover something.
- A cure for his condition?
- Not sure. He seems to be unaffected by any illness to me. His appearance is most likely a result of reckless magic experimentation.
- Very well. what is your next destination? I suppose delving into one fortress wasn't enough.
- Aleria. The wizard is following a pattern it would seem, and our next stops are inside of the Alerian Archipelago.
- Aleria... Well, I suppose if you survive, report to our operatives in Lordsport if you uncover anything else. May the light guide you my child. - He said as Aellis bowed and turned to leave.
