Friendly Duel Map Games!

Who is up for some games?

Map is generally the same with week 6 armies and lvl 20 hero but I've made a number of improvements! Details and links here.


GENERAL

- One special artifact available for each faction that can change your stat orientation into your opposite class! Now it is possible to play a might academy or a magic haven. For instance, a knight has 30/45/10/15 which would look like 6/9/2/3 at lvl 20 while a cleric would have 10/20/35/35 which would be around 2/4/7/7. The haven special artifact applies the stat difference by giving -4 attack, -5 defense, +5 spellpower and +4 knowledge. The skill chances cannot change based on your orientation but they have been reworked so that 12% is the most common and 6% the rarest. Normally inacessible skills will now be within reach as will be exotic combinations like summoning haven or light/might dungeon.

- A few more alternative units added! The efreet is the might kamikaze djinn upgrade with fire shield and immunity, the haven longbowmen reintroduces an anti-turtling scattershot and the druid summoner will support the sylvan forces with summoned elementals and hives.

- Sphinx, mentor, shrines, arcane library, merchants, wm factory and garden of revelation all in one area! Saves time and prevents backtracking. Magic quest is given before that to avoid levelling complications.

- Dwarven runes rearranged. With rune of immunity out, now rune of berserking will share the same tier with rune of etherealness. Rune of dragonform has 20% magic proof from 50% and rune of revival returns 35% of your fallen units from 40%.

FOR THOSE WHO MISSED RECENT SEASONS!

- Mass spells are now affected by spellpower and less spammable. 90% atb cost from 50%!

- Starting atb 0-5% from 0-25% to avoid extreme atb orders.

- Magic quest allows you to pick a magic skill of your choice instead of being subject to the sphinx or mentor's whims.

- No ammo cart! Shooting now requires more tactical play.

- Ballista improved but shots are limited. Tent healing improved, 5 uses. Necro has best healing/plague tent.

- Orcs can learn their opponent's magic skill before picking a shatter. Shatters have been rebalanced so as not to be a hard counter, while goblin defilers are now much better at sabotaging enemy spells.

- Training cap 30 units, artificer max with tweaked bonuses, faster but slightly reduced gating, rebalanced rage and warcries.

- Simplified skill requirements. Focus on personal choice, not on how lucky you are with hard-to-get requirements.

The map is designed to be used with this Game Exe (contains original and patched)
Replace the original exe in your game directory with the patched one. Default path should be: C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftHeroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East

The patched exe reduces starting atb from 0-25% to 0-5%, rebalances artificer and increases mass spell atb cost from 50% to 90%. You can return the values to what they used to be by replacing the patched exe with the original exe.

Then they're missing on an awesome map with more viable choices, higher amount of tactics/balance and better balance One actual issue is the lack of a built-in skillwheel with the new requirements. They are documented but it's just not the same.

I have made a new version, who's in for a friendly tourney?



- Tier 1 and tier 2 units have increased damage and hp(+100% for t1, +50% for t2) plus some extra att/def, making them closer to tier 3 in strength. Growth has been adjusted accordingly of course.

- Unit speed now ranges between 4 and 6. There are no units that can cross the battlefield in one action and coupled with the above change, battles feel more chess-like.



Those who can play, let me know how your schedule goes. If possible, we could have one game vs each player but that's up to you.
If all goes well, we could start next Monday with 4-6 players.

No rewards planned, save for the occasional achievement

I like the changes to the gameplay and they seem to be in the opposite directin from what I criticised magnomagus did for 5.5... (For example, only letting knights pick Light magic)}

So, where do we get this?

There is no rush, playing heroes is a beer and pretzel game as JJ used to say

The idea is to have a variety of possible builds and keep the opponent guessing. Summoning might not be that good for a knight with might stats but if you equip the cleric artifact for magic stats, you could make good use of it. And then there are classes that can make good use of any school like necromancer and ranger.

Do you try 10 or 15% starting ATB?
5% is good if there is no mirror match-up with the same armies.

Also, lesser starting ATB value = stronger units with high initiative.

The goal was for randomness to exist only between units of the same initiative. There is less starting atb variety but you can approximate which units play in what order which I find more important for this kind of game.

Mirror matches are not recommended btw. They can be hella fun but more random than normal matches



Meanwhile I have made spells scale better with spellpower. Heroes with 15+ spellpower will have more significant differences than their might counterparts when casting light or dark spells.

- Stat-affecting spells add +1 stat every 4 spellpower.
- Haste adds +1% init per spellpower, slow a bit less.
- Deflect arrows and confusion add +2% per spellpower.

Also mass confusion and vulnerability now affect all units instead of just a 4x4 area. Their effectiveness has been reduced but they are more fun to use now.

Latest version still under revision, to be posted later.

Yes, an official thread is overdue.

Meanwhile, some upcoming changes:

- Warmachine quest added, for those who do not wish to pick any magic. You also get 1500 gold for buying a ballista - those who do not pick this quest will have to buy it with their own money.

- Necro gets triple ballista(since they can now get might stats) and plague tent becomes available for dungeon, academy, stronghold, necro and inferno. It's effectiveness is the same as healing tent, 100/150/200hp per mastery, 5 uses.

- Damaging spell formula revised.
* Fireball and frost ring at t3 have a sp modifier of 20.
* T2 single-target spells like lightning and icebolt have +25% dmg compared to T3 aoe.
* T1 spells have about 15% less damage and cost than T2.
* Summoning damaging spells similarly improved.

- Summon elementals now brings in more units.

- Arcane library spells are now fully random.

- Creature spell masteries re-evaluated. Druid lightning and mage fist are at 360dmg, mage fireball is at 280dmg, druid stone spikes is at 305dmg.
