Lol in summary the "origin" lore of most that we see in GW games is that there was this guy/Emperor/Sigmar who reached godhood/omnipotence at some point. Then he went "I have something important to do!" and left. Most of the problems troubling the realms are effects of his absence/not caring or bad decisions And because Chaos Gods are bored they like to meddle.

Still it's a fun read. Like how Helldrakes or Hellbrutes are made...

Get the Sons of the Emperor anthology, it is kickass. especially the story where Corax brutally rapes Lorgar as a daemon primarch. Also, spoilers, Corax himself is a daemon prince of the Emperor.

Thought the dude went MIA in the Eye? Did it happen before Istvaan V? Or was he a deamon since the begining? If so that would explain the gene-seed corruption of his newer chapters and the creation of Raptors...

It's a Post Heresy storyline.

Corax left for the Eye of Terror, eventually some warp bleepery happened, and now he's a literal murder of crows.

Ok so this has to be the best animated depiction of Space Marines ever:

Astartes Project (I linked not the channel but full edit video).

And it was made by one guy. The only downside is that the Chapter, Retributors, is homebrew so it's not tied to any lore, outside that it's an Iron Fists succesor Chapter, hence their headstrong tactics. But they are brutal, this is how I imagine Space Marines.

Btw the Xenos in the animation also seem to be of some unindetified affiliation (although they do seem to employ Astra Militarum, maybe mind controlled?) other then that they are related to the Warp and psykic powers. But that's actually explainable, cus there are myriad of lesser Xenos in W40k lore.

Astartes is good but looks a bit wooden. This however... As grimdark as this universe is supposed to be.

Ah yes, I've seen the trailer to that one. The infamous Battle of Calth. But one needs to realize that the Emperor and Ultramarines had it coming after what they did in Monarchia... they probably even treaded ground for the Horus Heresy with their action.

But imo I wouldn't compare those two animations. They are both good in what they are depicting: Astartes outstandingly shows how elite, relentless and badass Space Marines actually are (and how "imposing and "heavy" their weapons feel, I think no other animation I've seen before caught it this well), and how a boarding sortie might look in W40k. Even if the rest is the authors joyful creativity (probably becasue he needed a way to portray SM vs Imperial Guard so he made them into traitors/mind controled cultists). Death of Hope depicts the brutality of what a full scale Loyalist vs Traitors SM battle might look on a highly populated planet in a grimdark universe which W40k is. There are at least a dozen or more conflicts I would like to see animated this way But those are the prologues. In the episode one the author focuses on the overall atmosphere and grimdarkness, but there's not that much action.

PS: I find some opinions that W40k is not how it was "back in the day". Is it really the case though? It still looks pretty dark to me...

F*ck me.

I did it and bought it... there was a promo in my local shop (+ I got one additional Intercessor Marine as a bonus)

But no way in hell I'm gonna paint them. Gotta find some cheap-@ss student who will paint them for a crate of beer.

Well, on the bright side I do play board games, and this is basically one big board game

For now I don't intend to invest in it further, but you know how these things go, the Rubicon has been crossed...

Nah, I don't have the patience for it. Plus that's another 100$ for the set of paints (maybe less if they're not from Citadel, but still), to get them to at least look decent. Cus I don't like half-assery.

A spray can of primer can be picked up at a hardware/car parts shop for like a tenner of Brussels Roubles Italeri acrylics cost 2 euros a pop here, I guess the price is similar in Poland, just with real money. so like a set for both sides would be around 20 EU monopoly money or so. given how complex a paint scheme you chose. painbrushes can be bought at an art supply store, I recently picked up some for fine detail for 61 cents a piece.

Citadel paint pots are utter garbage, not to mention overpriced. no need to waste money there.

and if you're lacking confidence, just take some advice from Duncan "two thin coats" Rhodes.

scale modelling these days is the only thing that keeps me from doing unreasonable things. Which is very good.

Fortunately I have some disturbances that keep me from doing unreasonable things

I know that if I'll research it enough I'll be able to reduce the prices significantly and probably even enjoy it. It's even easier now cus the make-belive-corona made people literally flock to GW so there are tons of references. Nah, for now I'm good, don't want to add yet another hobby to my list. I need to focus on some job related s*it and my apartment for now.

You can find tons of these "how minature painting s*it has helped me cope with corona-depression" all over stream-tube so I know where to look if needed be.

Btw Kip, do you know this guy? If not I think you might like him https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_wb8IVtmXwil8bN3IdVtZw

Here is a sample On Salamanders

EDIT: Btw this figures are really top-notch, even for recent plastic-cast minatures standards (I'm talking about board games etc). You can literally see the little bolts on a boltgun

Haven't heard of that guy.

I watch on occasion, Pete The Wargamer for his conversion stuff, some terrain builders, one russian scale modeler (not 40k related) and some other stuff.

for figure painting, I decide my color scheme on the sculpt of the figure, it's theme, rules of real life heraldry, historical reconstructions and some other stuff. For example my winged hussar figures, and my mounted crusader figures each have a different colored horse, from palomino to black. even the feathers o the hussars I made looking like they came from different birds.

stretches the page bit too much
The finished standart bearer, hetman and a regular hussar. these are 1/72 scale, so a tad taller than a 2 brussels rouble coin.

Lool, that is one heck of a meme

Btw, so the new mechanic for 9th edition is Crusades. I didn't read in the rules/details of how it works mechanically but the idea itself is pretty awesome and looks like a natural evolution of the gameplay. I mean, people are already putting so much personality in their homebrew armies and now they've added a sort of narative driven perma RPG-like element to playing the game (ofc if you want to, it's a separate game mode). I like how each faction is supposedly getting their own variants in codexes.
