You forgot XCOM, this is the best example of a turn-based franchise which managed to modernize !

Agreed, a great game indeed. I also forgot to mention a very simple, but highly successful game, rated by many among the best strategy games of 2018. It's called Into the Breach: https://store.steampowered.com/app/590380/Into_the_Breach/
If this game can become bestseller with 91% positive reviews on Steam, I see no reason why HOMM can't be again bestselling game. We just need better developers and lighter game. No need for heavy 3D graphics that consume the budget for the game and then it's left unfinished.

For HOMM6,
I have no problem with the skill system as it is rather simple to understand and very efficient if you do, only wrong it to be non esthetic...
... the spell are no longer learned with guilds, which is disturbing...

for the reputation system, instead of having to chose between tears and blood for the ideologic choise and being forced to accept the miserable and unsatisfactory rewards it provide, it should have been purely scenaristic and don't affect the statistics evolution of you character...
...should have taken a different approach : th reputation is represented as a balance, represented itself as a bar of different colours/areas of 200%, and each choice you make affect this balance, such as :

25 % | 50 % | 50 % (player begin at 0, the middle of this area)| 50 % | 25 %

And this determine who you will be able to compose with and who will fight you, and make a complex system of quests...

Make some noise...

...in order to measure us in numbers and income potential game developers. Maybe a good idea is to create a page-group-etc, in social media, and declare our hopes and expectations for the future of the series...persistently...

I would personnally like to create a Might and Magic community more oriented for those who have loved (or simply appreciated) HOMM6, MMX and Heroes Online...

Ubi is already for those, lol. But they don't support their own community.- Where are Ubi forums for Heroes games?

They never supported or trusted their own product. The stopped patching H7 with many game-breaking bugs...

They constantly break their relationships with their own developing companies.

***

Anyways, speaking of modernized and sucessful turn-based strategy franchises, take a look at this battletech game.

And this is an original game/franchise which is decades older than Might and Magic!

Its extremely easy to make your own forum within a free forum creation page. I did my first one when I was 13.

Now, building a sustained community that uses it... that is another story entirely.

I was sucessful with this as well in its time, but the time of forums is for most people long past.

I personally still prefer forums to facebook, but people generally think otherwise in this "new age".

I was actually thinking about something participative, everyone can propose content, such as walkthroughs/strategic guides/bestiary (or equivalent with weapons and items)/etc... that everyone will be able to consult, a bit like here...

ultimately you need to rope in a relevant audience for that and I do not think it exists here as you have observed yourself, as an idea perhaps try to look in fan groups on Facebook or somewhere and see if you can find people who are really into those games lol

alternatively the Might and Magic Wiki could be for you, it covers those games and has a collaborative process cheers lol

I see ppl bring up X-com again.

Here's why it's wrong to compare ubicrap Zeroes to it. Or probably isn't, to a degree.

X-Com, and another very similar game Xenonauts aimed at the core audience of the original 1994 XCOM. Both did what they intended to do. Both are excellent games, even though I personally liked Xenonauts more, because better nostalgia filter(same isometric style and crap)in it. But, they still accomplished their initial goal of bringing back the strategic earth defense simulator.

Zeroes6-7 didn't. 5 did to an extent, but it also set the beginning of a goal to cater to a mystical being known as a "wider audience".
The fellow that runs the Arch Warhammer channel has a good vid, give it a watch
That's why all the Warcraft and Warhammer aesthetic to the point of bleeping nausea.
Exhibit A.

They don't try to be Heroes games. They try to be a TBS version of Warhammer Fantasy and Warcraft. Or something. to bring in new fans of the franchises they ripped off into the clusterbleep mess that is ubi zeroes.

It doesn't work like that, never did, and never will be. Stuff like this spreads mostly through word of mouth. That's how you make the core audience grow. Make a good product.

Speaking of, I noticed a troll or something about making a kickstarter for a new game.
Sure, go ahead, we need a new kickscam meme, since poking fun at stuff like SmachZ or Star Citizen is getting boring right now.
When was HotA announced? 2008 or so? When it was released?4-5 years later right? So yeah, that't the extent of fan projects. And given the mindset of the dude who suggested starting a crowdfund, I'd say it'll turn into a meme faster than Erwin did.

And tell me, frankly, do you know a single fantasy universe having any shred of originality ?

The answer is : NO
Every single fantasy universe in present days is derivated from TOLKIEN, and everyone know that, for TOLKIEN, among other, Elves and Dwarves together is like the wedlock of the carp and the rabbit !

We already went through this over and over again. At times I also defended M&M lore as I liked some aspects of it.

But the games were simply cr@p, no amount of good or bad lore will change that.

Borrowing from Tolkien is one thing, ripping off warhammer(or any contemporary company/writer/artist) another. This goes beyond taking inspiration from myths and lore, it is shamelessly imitating (or straight out copying) the success of another.

oh yeah, the epic "hurr duur is all tolkien rip off" argument.

Whilst it's true that he put the groundwork for all subsequent fantasy works, the vast majority of the popular ones soon became their own things, with Tolkienesque themes barely showing up, if they do at all.

Like Elvin said, taking inspiration is one thing, blatant rip off is another. unfortunately, ubi zeroes is the latter.

It's just a misunderstanding of what "original" actually means.

Keep in mind that the original Heroes games are not inspired by Tolkien, but by the same fairy tale stuff that inspired Tolkien in the first place. Tolkien didn't invent Elves and Dwarves.
