I just found out my dad isn't my biological dad

He was an anonymous medical doctor who masturbated in a container.

Lol.

Ordering DNA test kit now to satiate curiosity. I suddenly give a **** about ancestry.

Perhaps there was a conception issue at the time. I'd probably be curious to find out as well. Who knows, you may have biological siblings that you don't know about. And I'd love to be present when you explain to them how you are related

A friend of mine has older siblings from his father's previous wedding but he never tried to contact them. In his place I'd be curious to at least see what kind of people they are.

I guess I'm more curious to know if asscheek cancer runs in my father's side or something of that nature. Medical history. Plus the fascination with geographic/ethnic roots. Who knows. It's somewhat surreal to suddenly know that my last name is strictly a legal name.

Being an artificially harvested zygote is a little different than being adopted, in terms of the family aspect. There is always a history/story attached to adoption.

I am your father, Luke.

If this is real, why is it in the wastelands? Is it some kind of subconscious effort to compensate the shock and tell yourself that it matters so little to you that it's spam material? I mean, I'm not suggesting that you should be devastated or depressed, it's not bad news, but it's important news.

Last names are artificial anyway. Ignoring cross-links, every generation back in your family tree, the number of people that were there to make you exist today doubles. You had 2 parents, 4 grand parents, 8 great-grand parents, etc ... whose DNA is now yours, albeit each of them only partially. The paternal inheritance of your last name is just one strand among the many that came together to form you.

What's more important is to know if your real dad is a rich old snow and you can lay claim to his inheritence .

She told me last night after an ad about the ancestry DNA tests you can buy. My sister apparently found out a long time ago once she joined the military. My brother is AB so he also found out by accident.

The standard advice given is that you don't tell the children, but I guess my mom eventually felt comfortable with it and figured I'd stumble on it. I'm the baby of the family.

@Father:

It's definitely very revealing information but I didn't want it in a Tavern/OSM setting where there is a tendency to dissect and analyze instead of talking about the human element.

Well, if your non-biological father is still around and you can trace the biological one too, you can make them jealous of each other, so that they try to buy your love with expensive gifts.

My father (the one who raised me) had problems with his sperm because of some sort of endocrine issue. He started developing breasts when he was a teenager and had to have them surgically removed and he couldn't conceive with my mother. Today he probably could have but I don't think methods to aid fertilization were as advanced in the 80s, so they decided with in vitro.

@Maurice:
Well, on one half of my family there is a very different tree than what I always knew. The difference can be quite radical, especially in areas where there is a high level of genetic diversity, like in the States. It might go back many, many generations before there is a common ancestor with the father that raised me.

I'll have more information in 6 weeks or so.
