Unexpected philosophers

Ok, I guess I am already cheating.
Everybody knows this guy was a profound thinker, despise being able to kick a moving plate three meters above the floor.
So, the challenge is to find quotes from public figures who aren't specifically knowed for their thoughts, but are unusually deep.

Bruce Lee
I'm not in this world to live up to your expectations and you're not in this world to live up to mine.

The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.

To hell with circumstances, I create opportunities.

Be happy, but never satisfied.

A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.

To be happy? Or to be satisfied?

Happiness is in the moment, yes. I had experienced some moments of happiness.

Satisfaction? I am with Agent Smith, "man defines himself through suffering".

But I believe he meant don't settle for less.

To that I would reply with some of his phrases:

“The athlete who is building muscles though weight training should be very sure to work adequately on speed and flexibility at the same time. In combat, without the prior attributes, a strong man will be like the bull with its colossal strength futilely pursuing the matador or like a low-geared truck chasing a rabbit.”

“Because one does not want to be disturbed, to be made uncertain, he establishes a pattern of conduct, of thought, a pattern of relationship to man etc. Then he becomes a slave to the pattern and takes the pattern to be the real thing.”

“All fixed set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns.”

No "or". As the quote suggests, I meant, do you think it's possible to be happy and never feel satisfied at the same time. The quote is like the anti-budha (nephew of the anti-christ), never stop craving for more, yet achieve happiness, too.

Yes, I do think so. I even think to obsess with the buddhist overcome of the ego is in itself an obstacle in the way of that state of absolute bliss they try to achieve. But you can experience moments of true happiness without laying down your goals, or settle for less.

Definitely. E.g. I feel very happy when I explore chess, but I don't feel satisfied, because there is so much more I wish to explore.

But I think there are also common examples, like feeling happy when eating a delicious meal despite still feeling hungry and not satisfied before having a full stomach, but for that example the quote itself doesn't work.

Edit: Btw. ignoring the literal meaning of the quote.. I think it means enjoy what you have, but don't give up on your dreams or something similar.

@NoobX The idea is to give the author of the quote too, or you don't know it?

I can't remeber who said it, I just thought it sounded cool, but also very good for discussion.

It is but we have already a random thoughts thread. I was trying to justify this one on the unlikelihood of the source...

Perhaps the intention comes from somewhere earlier, but Proudhon makes a similar statement that is more precise and is not paradoxical (simply saying except this one makes no sense .

Quote:
affirming, somewhat boldly without doubt, that in right there are no absolute principles (the most dangerous, most immoral, most tyrannical—in a word, most anti-social—assertion imaginable)

Also:

"Nothing is an absolute reality; all is permitted" maxim of Vladimir Bartol's novel.

My own personal touch to it would be: Nothing is an absolute reality; all is permitted and nothing is forgiven."

Maybe it's my lack of literary imagination, but I couldn't find anything befitting that would convey the fact that while everything is indeed permitted, but nothing exists without consequence, your acts of murder, rape or even charity, goodwill and saintly acts, or simply existing have consequences on your environment and thus will reflect back on you, the results can be surprising/totally unexpected/random or to the more aware they are natural.
