What if Elvin was female?

Is that?.. That sounds like FoG, Grumpy Geny thought to himself. Is that another mirage like Kooka? Then again, FoG does come to show off once in a while. Maybe he's real... I should probably go say hi.

He stood up, leaning on the table, but his hand slipped on spilled beer and his legs caught in his cape and so Grumpy Geny came tumbling down with the table crushing on top of him.

"Well... This is embarrassing..."

Honorable
Legendary Hero
able to speed up time

Fogwicious' stomach clenched into a knot.  From inside the satchel of the fallen ne'er-do-well could be seen the edge of piece of parchment.  He wanted to snatch it up but there was something far more important he needed to do.  He swept forward to help the man who'd fallen down, simultaneously exhorting the skeleton piano player to get a song going.

"There, there my good man, it looks like the ale has gotten the better of you.  A meat pie please for this fine old gentleman of the honor guard so that he can regain his constitution. A toast for this most honorable man!"
(in a whisper)
"no need for these good folk to hear the name that I used to go by.  Perhaps we can come to an accomodation.  I've noticed the cold tendrils of death clenching 'round your heaving body.  It just so happens I've supped from a spring that reverses the tide of ageing.  Let's keep quiet about the name I used to go by and perhaps we can find a way to ameliorate your afflictions."

Drunkards, the lot of 'em, the stranger thought to himself. Despite the immense commotion, paired with a ninja falling to the floor, he sat motionless and just waited for his food to be served. He put his hood back on, though at this point he knew for sure he wouldn't really be noticed. Smiling, he pulled a small notebook from a pocket and began noting the time and date. Never before had he been in a tavern for this long without someone shouting "birdface", "chicken legs" or whatever at him. Maybe this place wasn't so bad after all.

Disgraceful

many months have passed. many have come and gone since then; a few of the tavern's patrons since fred's last appearance have scattered back to the four winds. but most still remain.

now, at sunset, storm clouds gather on the horizon. the wind starts to blow, and hard; first bending the trees in the forest further out, then nearer the tavern, then finally rattling the tavern itself. from out of the woods comes a dark and ragged shape, just as the first large drops of rain start to fall. the shape closes on the tavern, it's rags blowing in the wind, revealing the scarred skin beneath. the war wounds of a thousand battles and tortures cover it's hide. fred the black makes his way around the tavern, gazing into the cleanest spots of the stained and filthy windows. the regulars and irregulars inside unknowing that they are being watched. being sized up.

the rain is now a downpour, and the ambience outside is akin to an ocean, where fred the black is circling the tavern like a shark beneath the pelting waves, circling his prey.

night and true darkness fall as fred opens the tavern door, fighting to close it against the howling wind, and making his way inside. he already knows where he will sit; he spied it from one of the windows. a dark little corner, nearly hidden in the smoke of the interior. he sits down at a table with an unlit candle, and lights it with a flick of his flint. his dark eyes reflect the small light in twin points from beneath his tattered and drenched hood.

the twin points survey the room, and the current mood.  mr. kink is missing from fred's getup; having been buried in a hostile dragon's skull, that had instantly died and fell into a fathomless pit in the anonymous and vast caverns under the world. that had been a sore price to pay for a life such as fred's, and he was still bitter about it; and missed his friend. the only upside of the whole event, was what he had found in the darkness in his desperate and wholly unsuccessful scramble to retrieve mr. kink.  something far more powerful.

no one has stirred since fred sat down; everything was quiet. 'a little too quiet, or else this place has changed', he thought to himself. he didn't see aunt morelda, the barkeep. 'she must be upstairs, giving somebody else the clap', fred thought to himself dismissively.

that's when he noticed a couple of broken bottles on the floor almost out of sight behind the bar; that hadn't been visible from any of the stained windows. and just behind them, he noticed the pool of blood with drag marks in it. 'aunt morelda would've cleaned up a spill like that', he thought with dawning recognition. he saw a bloody and smeared handprint on the side of the bannister leading upstairs. something had happened here, and not long ago.

he caught one of the patrons eyeing him from over their shoulder, and he realized that this was a trap. these were all thugs, and he had unwittingly stalked right into an ambush.

he didn't move a muscle, or change the look on his now scarred and weathered face. he would let them come to him. he casually put his left hand in his worn leather satchel, and grasped the object he had stumbled upon in the underworld. it began to softly hum in his grip, a sound too soft for anyone but those knowing, to hear.
