Town Symmetry

I've noticed an evident town symmetry in the recent HOMM4 screenshots. The five town types we've seen have different structures, but all of them are in the same position. The castle always on top right, the mage guild always on the center and the dwellings always in locked positions.

I suppose this has been made to prevent confusion in the newbie players. The typical question "where the hell is the mage guild in this town?" launched by a castle player when he first tries the fortress town. Well, it's a logical decision that makes easier to the player to get used to any town. It also serves very well to the purpose of ground texture changes, but...

Don't you think this symmetry makes the town landscapes too much similar?. In previous HOMM games, when you entered a town you were caught by very different atmospheres, and one of the sources of that changing ambientation was the chaotic structures position. Seeing the new screenshots, I feel I'm always in the same town, which I've developed differently. I only hope this symmetry is only graphical and town features will be truly different among the various towns.

I've noticed that too - but hoped this is different WEATHER change - but, it seems not - hope they change that... I don't like having symmetrical towns.

This is more confusing - cause place where you bought PIKEMENS on another town - you'll buy SKELETONS

agree tottaly with you about that fact.
I hope someone from 3DO will listen to that fat fact

I have the same opinion as you... but the general thought is the opposite.. I mentioned this organized symmetry in the "new heroes4 screenshots (from quill-mailinglist)" thread.. on page 2 .. but the response was that the new towns are great as they are... . Perhaps people were just fascinated by the graphics..?!? well.. they do satisfy me.. but the castles should still look like castles.. not a nomads' camp!

Diversification of Towns

Hi,

I notice that "three"
It is a bit boring for all town to be symmetrical. (maybe only one exception is stronghold as it does have any mage guide !)

Maybe we can make towns more diversified by classifying them into following functional types (for all towns):-

1).Military Town: can build dwelling for highest level creature and creature population boosting structures.

2).Magic Town: can build full mage guides.(not applied to Stronghold and so maybe enhanced blacksmith for additional war machines)

3).Economic Town: can build additional resource-wise structures e.g. resource silo, enhanced market (with better rate of exchange), treasury.......etc.

4). Capitol: can build everything but one kingdom only has one capitol just like in h3.

This would make towns more diversified and add more tactical elements into the game.

Maybe we can make an option of either enable this diversification system or just keep things as in h3 (i.e. Full Tech-tree option) at game menu.

Any comments ?

I, like the rest of the world, hate what 3DO did to towns in H4. Unpleasant aspect, dreadful simmetry, like we are idiots and can't find our way with the mouse on a monitor display 17'. Of course they should diversify and of course they need better ideas for buiding designs next time. Is there anyone who likes simmetry? Please respond and argue...
