It's the original Outpost as far as I know. Not the best quality image but I cannot find my edited version. I added it as a Garrison into my game at home, maybe I could extract it from there later...

Thanks a lot. But it must be only one.
I search more but I dont see a lot of old buildings. All is the same. Beta has another interface and hero portraits (it can be used) but not buildings. You can see here. Start from oldest.

They work for me, though the last one was registered as 'insecure'. I entered maps4heroes.com and located the link via the site.
Try this scroll to the bottom.
So they originally had black template rings, as NimoStar asked for, for his mod.

But I didn't notice the Outpost...

Yes I found very old page 2001! And you have:

As you see minium 7 towns was planned! Game is unfinished. Its interesting how it would works? How units would bee inside to defeat city?
And we have NO INFO ABOUT OUTOPST IN JENNIFER PAPRES YOU LINKED!? Weird. Its nothing for sure in HIV.

The Bullard papers did say that the outpost was meant to be deployed by heroes (or clearly placed on the map by a map maker) and could be converted into a particular town type for resources.

The outpost was not a "type" itself. Think of H2 towns you had to upgrade to get the fort and then build units, etc. Same idea, except you could upgrade to a different type. They weren't intended to be fixed to one specific town type.

But there is nothing about it, in these papers. AND ITS STILL A TOWN! If you could capture, inside must be defenders? How units? How is storyline of these cities? We dont know.

As you see all is the same.  There was no "beta graphic" only interface and some portraits is another. I think cost would be highest if they would made two graphics.

Hey.Cool to see people who still care about such an old and awesome game. I'm new here so I have few question about modding in Heroes IV.

1) What is going on with this H4 HD MOD? I saw some screenshots over a year ago - they claimed its possible to launch H4 in 1920x1080 resolution. Later saw some posts that they are looking for photoshop artist to remake townscreens. What is the point? Why they don't just open in in window in the middle of screen like Heroes 3 HD mod did? Same with battles.
+Do you have any info when can we expect premiere / how work is going now?

2) If I correctly understand the posts before, you have found the way to edit H4 data with some external tool and now you can add new: objects, units, spells etc. So why it's not possible to add new town? You don't need source code to add anything else but to add new town you need it? +Outpost isn't a 7th slot for new town?

3) is it possible to add new units, spells or you have to overwrite existing one?



I have like 0 knowledge about modding, I just like this game. Sorry If my questions sounds dumb to you

Baronus, yes it is in the Bullard papers, which is how I know what the Outpost was for. It can probably hold a garrison, but it does NOT have unit generators until the player upgrades it to the town type of their choice.

Again, it was NOT meant to be a 7th town / faction. You upgrade it to be one of the 6 available towns / faction types.

Either way it was never fully implemented.

I'm not an expert, but there is no possibilty to add anything new right now, the "new" things that can be added are images from out of the game, which wasn't possible to us before.

I don't recall the exact answer, but I believe Dalai said they were going for extended screens rather the H3 HD pop up window solution. For now the town screen all were extended. Last I heard they had added more than half of the extended screens, but that was months ago. I guess they felt it looks better in full 1920x1080 as they has the option.

As trashid said, we can only replace. That goes for everything. Portraits, units (stats or images), townscreens, splashscreens etc. With objects we can extract an object and replace it's image or change it's type to make new ones. But this is because objects can be extracted and read as individual files. Still we must work with the existing types of objects. All infos (lile heroes, creatures, name of townscreens etc) are located/coded within the editor and exe file and so we can't add those without the sourcecode.
Several guides and links to programs have been posted. You can find more info in each of those treads.
Hope that explains it.

Baronus, although we lack the specific file which iLiVe refers to, I already mentioned the Outpost is mentioned in one of the available documents about Objects. It does lack some additional info, but it is mentioned. I guess it would function as a mix of a Garrison where you could station your troops but have the ability to 'upgrade' to an actual town. We know these kind of objects alreafy exist, like goldveins that can be turned into a gold mine. I don't find it hard to imaging how it would work.

I didnt tell that it was faction only TOWN! It looks like town no garrison! But of course in HIV its no differences in walls. And I dont see it in papers you linked. I search by keyword outpost. No results. I told only it. Hard to tell if we know only some words.

Baronus, look for it in Technical -> Adventure Object Description, it's found on page 87, it's listed as (Majortype) Outpost, (keyword) name, (text) Outpost and is nowhere near listed besides the other towns.
I meant it would have the function/properties similar to Garrison. Even Towns has a Garrison, where you store your army. I hope you get my point.

Well there's a lot more A lot of scrapped features are mentioned in the files, but not all contain dates, so it's hard to know which parts got scrapped early on and which might've been cut out late. But at the end of the day, there's not much to do without the source code, as we can't add new abilities, spells, scripting options, artifacts (keep in mind the Equilibris ones, uses existing Abilities) etc.
But it does give an insight, that is quite interesting, 'coz a lot of really nice features were definitely planned or at least brought to the table.

I guess Johnny will get the rest of the documents transcripted at some point, so they can reach the public as well.
