Poll Question:
Arachibutyrophobia

It's simple arachibutyrophobia noobs: the natural kind doesn't do that. Only the highly processed kind.

At first I didn't recognize the name but when it dawned on me I smiled I love the elaborate phobia names. If an alien read the full list of human phobias he'd consider us scaredy cats.

I had a list of phobias since the dawn of the internet and when I first saw them, I was shocked there were so many. Not that it puzzles me that people are afraid of many things but some seemed too detailed to be named. It's like reading "a zonratogu is the 8th track of an album that lasts 2.37 minutes and is in D sharp minor."

Btw, being Greek, can you decode the names just by looking at them or is it etymologically ancient and you need a dictionary like us?

Many of those come straight from Greek.

Arachi: Αραχίδες
Butyro: Βούτυρο
Phobia: Φοβία

What I found hilarious was treiskaidekaphobia. Τρείς και δέκα = 3+10

English in general has a serious amount of Greek words though you may not realize right away since some sound differently. Take euthanasia for instance. The original is ευθανασία but it sounds like efthanasia, with emphasis on i.

I know the words are Greek, (ironically, there is even a phobia for that: Hellenologophobia- Fear of Greek terms or complex scientific terminology,) that's why I'm asking. Since it may also be Ancient Greek that is not instantly understandable to a contemporary speaker. I can only understand bits when I read 12th century Turkish etc.

Lmao.

Ancient Greek is obviously harder to understand and even harder to use, even for a Greek. Our current version may sound complex but it's a walk in the park by comparison.

The current book I'm reading argues that modern terminology of 'disorders' is somewhat of a misappropriation and that all (almost all) disorders are rooted in the brain operating correctly in order to protect the person's genes, and that the body has kicked into a "surviving over living" mode due to particular experiences. Peanut butter stuck to the roof of the mouth is reminiscent of choking, for example. People can be terrified of clowns for logical reasons, because we can't discern their true intent when a smile is always painted on their face.

Yes I know.  I'm a fun person. I read fun stuff.

I always thought modern Greeks couldn't read ancient Greek (other than somewhat being able to figure out the words). It's like an Italian trying to read Latin.

Does this mean Elvin is a walking encyclopedia of obscure terminology?

nihilipilication? So redundancy, without purpose goal etc, dunno what the rest entails, just gibberish pasted onto sense.

@Blizz, I would argee with the books argument wholeheartedly. The root cause of any problem is the human being himself that ties knots in their own processes whether knowingly or unknowingly, the operating system tries to run regardless, or simply won't even boot (comas/dementia etc). Reality is scary, whatever event jolts you back to it the root cause remains our fears that our brains are not designed to work effectively with, they compensate and support it to the best of its ability, our 'disorders' are just the malign manifestations of our impact on our processor.

If the hardware is faulty that's a different matter with similar results. Imho

For instance, while I despise the Scientology organisation because I truly regard them as a cult and know that they partake in modern style slavery, Hubbard (although a deplorable figure himself) wasn't a quack, he knew what was worth what when he collected the knowledge from around the world.

-Speaking of one such thing is the body's defence mechanism, when a traumatic incident occurs to you, you actually subconsciously record everything even while unconscious. Words/phrases that when uttered, or a similar situation occurs under a totally different context will make you act almost irrationally, angry/defensive for no rational reason (to the individuals involved) even years down the line (describing it, it almost sounds like PTSD probably, but it happens to all of us).
Here's a video that explains it well, but for the love of god don't join them, they use what they teach in order to shackle and manipulate, then financially too, eventually you're both psychologically and physically bound to them (pieces of **** still call me up after 10 years of me telling them that I'm done with the church over moral grounds, then they try to hook you back in, it's sad when you get a call from a decent person though, I can immediately sense it, and they say sorry, wish me well and end the conversation, they do not try manipulation tactics).

Main thing about mental health, is we like to think that they're tragedies or malfuntions rather than something that is relevant to everyone.
