Star Wars VIII - What you think about it: SPOILERS

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU

Hello again HC fellas

Did you like it, hated it, laugh it, cryed it or all of them? Like I probably did.

I really liked that it was much deeper movie character and story wise than the last one. Luke just not tricked Kylo by his stunt but whole movie was build like it could turn up-side-down in any moment. I like when movie does that it makes you wonder all possible outcomes. Some might shock by it but I prefer it's clever directing.

While I would like that there where more lightsaber duels and more meaningfull dialoque by Luke and Rey, the UNMEANINGFULL scenes made the movie fell flat at times. Finn and Rose was uninspiring, cut them and save plenty of time. I liked all the animals even the annoying ones. "Space horses" where interesting but the chace was too pushed and it felt forced. Lot of "poitless" humor but I can forgive them but long scenes that won't take you anywhere, kills the good fibes in times. While ago, I watched LotR and it felt too long at times too.

I did not laugh out loud but some jokes got me smirk. They overdo comedy nowdays by pushing the laughing button even if it's not funny. Maybe it's American thing or disney make family fell good moment. I enjoyed the scene when Hux was about to shoot Kylo when he was lying on the ground and Kylo stands up, Hux just covers his gun holder. He knew better.

Did I really cry? Of course NOT! At the end when the boy takes the broom by force pull, that got me. Vanishing of our hero, that was plain beautifull!

Lastly, I liked the dolls, appriciated I did

just got out of the theater for this....and I was not impressed

I thought it was way too corny. Jokes around every corner, even worse than marvel films. All the Finn and Rose scenes were boring and painful to watch. That scene with Leia surviving outer space and pushing herself back to the ship. that made me react

i wasn't a fan of the whole force skype call thing. Thought it was cool when Luke was mediating from his island making an illusion but then he disappeared or died for no reason, so it wasn't that cool in the end

Some of the action scenes were good but not all that satisfying. I would have rather seen Rey and Kylo tear apart those red guards, but instead they struggle with it and don't use any force powers for basically all of it? Anyone else notice that? Or at the end when the first order drops the cannon and their at-ats like way further away from that gate than they should have lol

I'm really negative right now but it's cause I was expecting it to be a lot better so I'm only focusing on the bad. I give it like a 6/10  Attack of the clones was better than this.

Looking at IMDB, many reviewers say that it's worse than The Force Awakens which is quite an achievement if true. Not that I would have willingly checked it on cinema even if 99% of the people were screaming with joy, that Episode 7 bull**** left a lasting bad taste, but now there's no chance to pay for this even just for the sake of going out with friends.

You don't have to pay if you steal somebody else's money while they are walking home alone. It would technically be somebody else paying for you.

Now that time has passed I have switched camps and concluded alongside those here who were cynical from the beginning (the Kreegan Leninist who won't read stuff I post and the lonely Turk) that the new Star Wars is indeed recycled bull****, but that still doesn't stop me from enjoying it in the theater even if it isn't going to age like wine the way other movies do.

Stealing from somebody just to give the money for another of Disney's vomits in the face of the old Star Wars movies would be an insult to the victim of the robbery. Someone who falls so low may buy Heroes 7 next.

Thanks from your opinions. I knew it will split people in two groups, more over than Force Awekens because it took so drastic turns, for some it worked for some it's highest herecy!

I agree, jokes where bad and some characters and scenes where really far off but it had very much good things going for it too, if being forgiving.

Sure, it's milking but what about it? No harm done to the originals, they stey as they are, infact newer generations might search them later on and cherish them as we most. New Star Wars movies can't never replace the those classic and that's fine. It's great that we do get continuety to the saga we love, if hate it, skip it.

It's funny that Mark Hamill was openly against Last Jedi, it's clearly seen on interviews of him that he did not apreciate where it was going, mainly because Luke is not anymore leading character, the hero of the story. Plus, that the character is not anymore "Prince in Shining Armour" that he do have dirt in his cape. That's his opinion but frankly I don't care at all, as what I was told on that screen was captivating and I bought it. George Lucas was seeing it before release or premiere and he tough: "It was beautifully made". I think George was not too happy about Force Awekens but all this does not mather as he is jumped from the train long ago. Actually, if looking back I would loved George handed over the staring wheel long before Phantom Menace. But, these are just opinions, personal tastes.

Milking? Yes, it sure is but it's freaking movie industry. You know what the farmers said when they itroduced "robotic milking" on cows? It will never work, it will not taste the same. It's still milk dude.

From the three friends that went to the cinema to see it I'm the furthest from being a fan of the franchise (I do like Star Wars mind you, but not a fan, na-ah). We all three thought the film was underwhelming.

Sure it was a solid movie. We had drama, jokes, battles, epic scenes, funny cretures, ugly aliens, Rebellion getting it's butt kicked and bad guys having zounds of cool war machines. But that's it, the film had simply nothing new to offer. It was well directed when it comes to what Homer said: there were a lot of moments in the film that potentially could've went in a different direction, but well, they didn't. Ultimately what we got was nothing that could be called a great plot twist or sth. What we got was the same schematic of Rebels being in a dire situation and working on the clock, a small group getting for the tenth time into the enemy ship (those guards should really be fired) to sabotage it with odds being close to zero but armed with a plot armor and the bad guy being well, bad.

Another problem is the characters. I kinda like Rey, but Finn is just Finn and Poe is uninteresting. Kylo Ren is simply uncharismatic and I won't ever call him a good villain (though he did perform better then in the first film). And why the hell they threw Del Toro into this film? What was the point of introducing this character? And Rose? So the Asian part of the audience would feel good that they finally got a meaningful character in the series? I know the original characters are legendary, but there's simply a rift between them and the new ones...

Generally the film was a let down to me (I didn't want to belive an overall medium reception of the film by audience, but turns out it is true).

So, in short it's just a "Empire Strikes Back" remake, isn't it?

There is some similarities, "heroes" being in different place of each others, new shady characters (Lando is this Del Toro guy), Luke's island is the "Yodas Planet", "Empire" is retaliating is the main theme here aswell..

But... then agaim I would not call it "Remake". I tough Force Awakens where more Copy of New Hope than Last Jedi being copy of ESB. They went different directions IN GOOD AND BAD, but I liked the boldness that it was little different than other SW.

I agree 100% that they overdid many things but when that was a new thing in Star Wars? Remember Return of the Jedi Ewok's, they where cute and all but too much screen time. Jar Jar Bink who ruined SW for many fans. The over extend use of green backround usage in Clone Wars.

It has it flaws and if not, I would think it would be great movie. Still it's GOOD if don't get stuck by it's errors, imho.

I would have preferred a remake of empire strikes back, like they did with force awakens and a new hope. It was unoriginal and straight rip off, yes, but it was still enjoyable. This on the other hand....its....its awful.

I realized later that this one started off the same way force awakens did. Poe had some stupid joke to be said during what should have been a serious moment where he could easily have died. And he's making jokes. Har har.

You know what I would like? A trilogy that takes place some time in the KOTOR era. Epic badass Jedi vs badass Sith battles, forces being let's say, on equal terms and not the damn Rebels being always on the run. Yeah I know Rebellion is about being on the run but it's ridiciolous how much of supremacy the First Order has. So they blew up one planet, and the Galactic has no means to fend them off already? Even Phantom Menace had more sense with Trade Federation - an already big organization that went Rogue because of the Siths... so the power struggle was more logical until the turning point which was the Sith sabotage.

Point is the more you look into the new trilogy setting, the more stupid and far-fetched it turns out.

I couldn’t agree more. They’d have more freedom to create new heroes and villains and they wouldn’t have to butcher beloved characters from the old trilogy.

Well, that is kind of inevitable, since in the original trilogy, a galactic empire had just ended and it was made out to be a very big deal. But within the lifetime of our victorious rebels, we now have the same empire under the name of the First Order, pretty much having the same reach and power to destroy planets or colonize them. What was so worth the celebration then, and what happened to the prophecy of Anakin bringing balance to the galaxy, him killing the emperor was, after all, the fulfillment of that at last, wasn't it? So anything resemling an evil empire/heroic rebels setting is bound to not make sense. But if they cut that out, they lose their winning formula, that would require a whole set of new ideas and plotlines, put aside pulling out these semi-remakes.

So very true. But what was the original continuation about? You know the George Lucas mythos one discarded before the Force Awakens+ movies were made? Wasn't this a better option?

Besides aren't there enough inspiration in the metaverse already? To tell you the truth this doesn't look good. If the third part won't redeem the subpar second part, then the whole project might be considered a letdown I'm afraid...
