Why no one is helping this mod author ?

http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=44489

This man working alone as i see and trying to improve his mod but it seems people not helping him. People think they've helped him but he is asking hex somethings im not sure about what it means but I am sure heroes 5.5 author magnomagus can help him but why he don't care? Why people ignore his requests? He is polite and asking nicely. People want to hide their knowledge from other modders?

PS: This forum seems focused on Heroes 5.5 mod. What about other mods ?

Lol it's me yes i am trying to contact quantomas and deflaktor but it seems they are not here. By the way i am not agains 5.5 because it is the best heroes 5 mod i have ever seen and i can't compare my mod with it but i am trying to do somethings.

About the magnomagus i don't know but he seems don't want share his knowledge because i have tried to ask questions but he gave short answers in previous posts.

phoenix4ever we can work together if you want. I can share my knowledge with you if you have the mod but we can try to find hex offsets by ourselves if you want.

And other users or modders who read this post. We can help each other. I have a huge mod with many changes and i can help you. If you have an experience with hex edit or try, i would be happy if we can work together.  I know how to find hex values but i have never tried to edit games like this. I only hacked nintendo roms but they we're easy to find values.

And Psykhe thank you for your interest.

To be honest I am not that interested in Heroes 5. Heroes 3 is my favorite HOMM game and I have hex and text edited it, made maps for it and played it more than any other game.
Heroes 5 is not bad though, I have played it in the past and I will say it comes right after 3. But I don't know anything about editing it and I am not really interested anymore either.
Good luck with your project.

If this is about hex editing, @magnomagus is no expert on it. If he was, he would do a lot of things himself, instead of getting help from @Deflaktor.

This OP and thread is very awkward. You can't peer-pressure anyone into helping anyone. If someone can help, they will. "can" in the sense of both skill-wise capability, and time-availability. You can't expect anyone to drop their lives, other personal projects and even their work on their own Heroes 5 mod, to come and run helping you.

EDIT: Plus, @vulcancolak, hex-editing is not like any modding. Think about a needle in a haystack among 100s on a field you don't know where.

Quantomas already told you: "As Deflaktor explained, you have to spend way more time and effort seriously before you earn the right to complain that the dedicated modders don't help you out.

And as Deflaktor also mentioned, most new modders, basically more often than not just fans who want to try out something new, simply cannot be bothered to read what was said and explained before. That makes trying to help out new modders somewhat a barrel without a bottom."

It's no easy business, there are no short-cuts, and YOU have to spend a ton of hours to do what YOU want to achieve. I mean, think about it, how can you ask someone else to spend their hours for you, and then complain about it when they don't?? I mean, I had another word for "complain" but this is not the forum for it...

Look at all the respected modders here... They are respected as such not (only) because they put out something awesome, it's because everybody knows they spend their hours, days, weeks, and months on the things they did... and they did so for free. You say you modded other games, so I thought you understood the process, but you seem too impatient and unwilling to go through it.

I know and if you have checked the topic, you can see i already said thank you both of them but after few weeks i haven't found anything and i need their help. And i even don't ask the specific things because i was find it "rude" because i prefer learn and find by myself

There is misunderstanding in here. I am not asking them to spent their hours. I am just waiting for Quantomas and Deflaktor in here because i want to learn how they can change hardcoded things. I need example. By the way even if someone creates topic and asks something i knew, i would help him (i did this many times back in the days in everygame i have released mods) because i am the one like this. I will help people if i can. Or at least i will teach them "how" to do instead of giving their "exact" answers.

Before 9 months ago i have started to create Heroes 5 mod and 5 months passed and i have succeeded with .pak files and this 4 months i am trying to learn how to change hardcoded things. 9 Months passed (275 days) and you call it as impatient? And i don't have any players and still i am trying to do somethings. You think i have registered and asked questions without knowledge? Yes i have modded other games this is why i am trying to be patient and polite. But i can see magnomagus posted too and as you can see still he seems unwilling to help or he can't understand, i will ask the exact things to him now.

@magnomagus Ok how can i change the starting bonuses? Or how can i add new items? or how can i change the values of the skills that i cannot find in the .pak files? Or how can i change the abilities of the items? Can you help me about one of these things or can you tell me how can you do that? Can you help me in "any" ways? Or at least can you tell me which softwares are you using for the change?

I have modded many games in the past and i know it is annoying if someone asks me exact questions directly. But at least i am teaching them to ways. If you have a hesitations about my mod don't worry none of my mods becomes popular and my mod is no match for heroes 5.5 As you can see nobody plays. I just don't want to give up.

For example if someone asks me for "how can i change damage of x spells" i would tell him to go gamemechanics/spells or at least i can say "they are in .pak files in gamemechanics"

Any help appreciated.

You are assuming the questions you ask can be answered in that manner, but they can't. You need to learn programming, follow courses and read editor pdf manuals in the game folder and start with studying simple map scripts.

It's a generational thing. They've grown up with all the answers on google, so they always ask and copy, rather than thinking and creating.

I'm also guessing English is not his(her) first language which possibly skews the tone.

@Vulcancolak
If you learn something new and contribute to the community it will inspire other modders to participate, you will garner respect, and questions will be answered in the process.

I began with the following reverse engineering tutorials:

Ok i understand you will not help people like deflaktor does in this topic and i cannot blame and force you for that. Because there is many types of people in this world. http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=41404

At least can you tell me "how" did you changed the values of Mentor ability? As you can see i am not asking the offsets i need because if you wanted, you already told me which offsets i need this is why i am asking which way did you find offsets.

When you decided to change values of mentoring what did you to after turning on pc. I can simplify more the question.

Since 2003 i have created many maps, mods and systems for the warcraft III and helped countless people unrequited. But yes i haven't discovered anything in heroes 5. That prevents asking for help? Can i learn the conditions for request help?

And before you edit your post you said "he answering every questions" but as you can see still i can't get any question and i have changed the way of my questions. You needs unbiased opinion but you prefer to focus me. It is unfair.

Maybe it is because of my bad english. I am not trying to make people guilty. I am just defending myself and trying to ask question it is all i can do. But if you mean you are paining people as guilty let me know how i do that and let me edit my messages if there is misunderstanding.

He didn't ask for help himself - also, you *can* peer pressure people to help. It's how society works mostly.

which planet's society? Because in real life putting pressure on people to help you, it usually triggers the opposite reaction. We see how well it worked here, for example. But you can help him, if this is how it works for you, please do it.

He wasn't the one that asked for help, according to usernames. One thing is peer pressure, another is personal pressure.

NGOs, Church, Political Parties, Project leaders, Indiegogos, Patreon, etc. etc. etc., they all ask for help, don't they?

I can't help with this particular topic but if you do want my help with some topic, you better ask it than not, yes. That's how it works.

You conflate asking for help with putting pressure to get it. The first is necessary and this is indeed how a part of the society works. But I didn't see many political parties, churches or simple Patreons bothering and implying that you hide your wealth to get away from helping them, and this is what both thread starter and the guy concerned are doing, read again. And even after magnomagnus made it clear, it continues.

I am always ready to help, but when people do that and insist, hcm or personal emails because they didn't get it within a day/week in public forums, it is instant delete and ignore. Helping is not a duty, it is a personal choice and a free gift you decide to hand over. And sometimes, depending on what is asked, that can take hours or even days, to properly solve one simple request, so should not be taken lightly.

Asking for help is one thing, but complaining 'why nobody is helping me', or stating repeatedly (as if trying to shame those people) 'I asked for help from these forum members but they did not help me' is another thing.

Do you see any crowdfunding project whining after a failed campaign? Or, a political party disclosing the names of people who they sent letters to with no return? No, they rather look at themselves and ask what THEY did wrong. That's how it works. Or, at least, it should...

My rant mainly about the OP, how awkward is that, "why are you not helping this guy?"?? Along with @vulcancolak with his tone in multiple threads including this one, this amounts to peevish whining, peer-pressure and borderline public-shaming. And, no, it does not help anyone.
