I'm slightly confused by the question since you said we won't feel pain or pleasure. But you mean we can still experience curiosity, fascination, and boredom and panic?

I can't recall the name of the experiment but in the 1960s they had a group of volunteers put in isolation and had all of their senses in essence turned off. No sound. No sight. As minimal tactile sensation as possible. Just a tiny empty room with zero temperature variation.

The experiment probably wouldn't even be legal today but the volunteers  started hallucinating in a very unpleasant kind of way in a short time span (a few days or less), and they had to stop the experiment prematurely because they started going crazy and screaming for help. Clawing the walls, etc.

So no thanks. Your scenario sounds literally like a kind of hell.

It is to some extent frustrating to be part of a world that I will never be able to fully experience or even come close to fully experiencing, either in the past or in the distant future or even in 99+% of the present. But I consider: would I really want to be part of a world small enough that I can grasp all of it? There is somewhat of a paradox at work here. One wants to experience all that the world has to offer, yet in experiencing all that the world has to offer, there is nothing left and life loses its grandeur.

---

There is a really interesting movie I recommend everybody here watch called "Room." It is about a boy born from a kidnapped sex slave who spent his entire childhood inside of a room about 3×5 meters. The mother eventually had to explain to him that there were 2 sides to the walls and the boy struggled to grasp such concepts. Very good film.

Yeah, Room is a very good movie indeed.

I said there would be no physical pain or pleasure. No skin burn or orgasm or chocolate taste. But you can still have positive or negative feelings about the the things you see and hear. So basically, your sensory is not shut out completely, you still have vision and hearing, Zenofex put it quite accurately, life will be like a movie, you cant bite or smell it but it can still make you feel sad or happy. Once life ends though, I doubt watching the cosmos would be the same. Well, at least you'd get to discover if there's alien life out there somewhere.

Without interaction, without exchange, life becomes an unbearable abyss.

Being an observer would be terribly lonely, I can live out my entire life researching people and never truly feeling comfortable dealing with their kind, but I'd never give up the opportunity all together.

Not a fate I would wish upon anyone or thing, seems more like a terrible curse, not something a rational creature would even consider accepting.

^_^'

My bad, what I meant was that only an irrational mind would welcome something so psychologically/ontologically damaging as this offer. It's fun to consider even agree to on a whim/ on impulse, but it is what it is. My comment was if you legit got this offer on your table there's no way you'd agree after careful deliberation, even personal tastes aside human needs are human bloody needs lol, if you're oblivious to those I cannot consider you rational, not something I say to ridicule or belittle, it's a simple measurement (in addition being a human sock puppet means I can very easily generate illusions as realities so I can easily put myself in the scenario, sometimes my real-life performance turns out more impressive than the simulations I run in my head).

Besides, I chalk up all the yes answers to either confusion or impulse hence the 'no rational creature' part (I implied the subject in question would have to be devoid of rationality, but my statement was actually intended to be reserved exclusively for answers regarding this particular scenario rather than a sweeping judgement of everyone's intelligence - Slip of the tongue if you will).

The sole prospect of being able to see all the most beautiful ladies in the world with the impossibility of interacting with them in any way makes my answer pretty much a no-brainer.

Ye you get to see those young sexy ladies be born, age, grow old...sag, then decompose, watch the bones turn to dust. On repeat till the end of time with their children and the long line of descendants.

Besides you can't get hard, so defeats the point altogether.

the only way i would ever say "yes" to something like this, is if i were able to possess living things, and thus live/feel/experience through them. and it looks like that's against the rules.

you'd have to be insane to say yes; otherwise you'd just be floating around in space until it collapsed in on itself, and then recreated itself again(this based on what seems to be a popular opinion of the nature of the universe); you'd go mad(or crazier, because you already said "yes! let me exist all by myself after everything else dies including those i love, forever and ever!" like a lunatic) without any contact from another living/existing thing.

i mean, life would get really boring after humans died out. possess animals? and do what? lick ourselves? ...*

after our planet died out, i'd go searching for life elsewhere in the universe. question is; as just a consciousness, can we materialize wherever there is life merely by thinking about it; or would we have to actively search for it? because we might never find life; being that planets don't stay in one spot, and we would most likely miss our target.

how would a consciousness move, anyway? do we flap something? think real hard? float gradually in whatever direction we're looking, like an eye-floaty?
