Heroes 4 & Game of the Year, any chance?

Do you think Heroes 4 will win some Game of the Year of 2002 awards? If not Game of the Year, maybe Strategy Game of the Year awards?

As it stands now, no way.

There are just way too many flaws in the game for it to win in any category.

However, there is is still well over half this year left to go.  So, with a little bit of patching, it's chances may increase.

You have to be joking...

...with the dead ai, choppy animations and poor graphics it will most likely win the Montgomery Burns Award For Outstanding Achievements In The Field Of Rubbish.

Game of the year? No way.. Even if it was complete and not buggy it still can't win that. There are too many other games of high profile from other genres.

The best it can do is win Best Strategy Game, but Warcraft III will also be contending for the spot, and public tends to like RTS over TBS. Other strategy games this year are Disciples II, Age of Wonders II, and Age of Mythology. Nominated? Yeah I'd say so. HOMM4 to win? Not likely. Blizzard games tend to make a lot of fuss (and sales) so they will be hard to beat.

Civ3 won lots of strategy game of the year awards last year even though the game was pretty buggy (ex. precision bombing bug and corruption problem).  Multiplayer was not included in Civ3 also. I think heroes4 will receive a few Strat Game of the Year Awards, especially in the TBS category.

List of awards Civ3 has received:  http://www.civ3.com/awards.cfm

The more I play Heroes4 the more I agree with the statement that Heroes4's AI is really braindead. Heroes2 and Heroes3's AIs were much better. Civ3's AI on the other hand is very good; lots of people got killed on the easiest level when they first got the game.

Oh well, Heroes4's chance of getting awards will be greatly improved if they patch the stupid AI quickly.

The game is too, stuck in a small market i.e not many ppl like tbs at all, we are all in the minority, as posting on this board shows we love the game (and eachother?) alot
however with a few adjustments, like ai and improved graphics homm4 might stand a beter chance, should they decide 2 come out with a expansion, the oppertunities are endless, so who says we wouldn't be able 2 get expansion of the year
(although this would require alot of work on behalf of the developers)

Mine also, some criticisms i've been hearing lately don't seem to make sense. I think the AI is better than that of H3 (just my opinion).

I love the game (although there is definite room for improvement), but there is no chance it'll win GotY awards. Sequels rarely get such distinction, because they look for something new and groundbreaking in a GotY.
Plus, there are too many problems out of the box and no multiplayer out of the box hurts.

It can be a good game with some problems, but for GOTY they always choose a good game without problems, and usually it has to do something groundbreaking, or at least refine the genre to new heights. A TBS to win GOTY, hmm.. I dunno.

I'm not even a fan of First Person Shooters, but if I had to vote for GOTY, I'd pick Jedi Outcast over HOMM4. And it is also more likely to win as well, because it's actually a good game, and FPS is a genre that lots of people love. But the year isn't over yet, and there's still 7 months remaining. Too early to start talking about GOTY.

Awards HOMM4 has a chance of winning:

- Best Graphics, artistic
- Best Music
- Best Strategy or Turn Based Strategy

It has no chance of winning:

- Game of the Year
- Best Multiplayer Game
- Best AI

I agree with Jenova the best features for getting an award would the music and graphics area.

If anything the game should get some awards even if it is just one.

For me, Heroes 4 and WBC2 tie for best strategy game this year so far.  Freedom Force is a close second behind these two (held back for limited replayability).  And Disciples 2 honorable mention.  Actually these are the only four strategy games I've played this year... so unless something comes along (AoW2, MOO3 ...) and bumps em off, I'd be fine to say that

"Heroes IV/WBC2! Strategy games of the year!"

My goty right now is still Dungeon Siege, just by a teeny bit!  Will prolly be knocked off by NWN or MW soon though.
