Discussing the facets of creating music

This could be fun and inspiring for more than myself.

@JJ and continuing our guitar-chat

From 2001 Burns Guitars out of London built a replica of Brian May's self-built guitar (he called "Red Special") under supervision of May himself (until Brian May Guitars took over production, but afaik, the latter currently doesn't do the Red Special).
It was competetively priced and offers quite unique sound-options.

Ah I see.

The Jacksons come competitively priced as well, if you avoid a signature model.

I've heard Jackson but no nothing about the rep. Can you tell me a couple of acts that use them now?

12-string acoustic would be interesting as well, but a good one would cost a lot more than a decent Jackson. 7-string just offers a deeper bass string you can tune to a deep B (or even A), which is something to ponder about - although I doubt I'll go for it, eventually.

Surely you can find a very good used 12?

About the 7th-street I trust what you say about that.

I have not kept abreast in gadgets or new ideas for a very long time

i.e. I saw a girl playing a tune on tele years back that I knew was using a pedal-device where she could sample and repeat riffs & thumbs etc. store them and then play and sing along. However, I only looked into it a few months back. It looks like even a cheap-model would make for some fun.

And then there's that gizmo that Keaggy holds in his hand, looks like some small silver ball, that replaces the whammy-bar? It appears new adventurers have a lot more toys to explore than we did. Btw, I still have a wah-wah-pedal. In fact I own several antiques including myself and all are worth a fortune.

You can find a list of Jackson players here.

I have a Drum Computer, a 4-track recorder and a microphone, which means I can record Drum & Bass (via the drum computer), 2 guitar tracks and either sing or add another guitar.

That's the theory. In practise I used to have a passable voice when I wsa young, but at this stage my vocal range is QUITE limited due to missing practise and smoking too much when I was still younger and sillier (at least in that regard).

Also, in practise I haven't been doing music seriously for more than 15 years, for a couple of reasons that aren't relevant for the fact as such. Anyway, one reason was missing the right "location" for doing that for roughly that time, however, my daughter moved out in December, and since she has lived in what would be kind of like the cellar in our small house, but is in fact more like souterrain (with a nice window), the location now is there, which is one of the reasons I decided to buy a new guitar.(Of course there are some other options as well, what to do with the space.)

Thanks for the link...lot to read there. I'd seen the flying V of course but honestly I would have never gave it a look. Like I need valuable pointy-objects, to accidently destroy.

I have an old Korg-Drum but I have not used the thing in forever. It was drums only and sounded more like it belonged in the first iterations of PC-music (cannot recall the formal name)

I do have a Yamaha set that has multiple tracks to accompany but only the drums and bass are good...if taken through my Peavy PA

For better recording, I bought a Zoom digital Multi-track Studio but I have great difficulty in reading long manuals these days. I am assigning the task to my wife. It has a built in HD but I have not done a thing with it for years. Trying to reverse that.

I wish I still had my old cassette 4-track simply because it was a snap compared to the zoom device. However, ripping cassettes to mp3, I did more than enough of and the damn things age and break. Yeah

Here is my favorite of what I own - <imo> sustain is unequaled but this ax is very heavy on old broken bones even if perfect for heavy-metal
Kramer 650G

iirc I bought it in 1979

JJ look for a HCM from me in a day or two. I have something in which you might be interested.

That would need to be qualified.

I play completely in the realm of ear & imagination, so I have never read a song buy any one written in any genre.

Fyi, I grew-up listing to country-blues and when in my teens began following Canned-Heat, Savoy Brown and of course dozens of bands like Deep Purple and Zepplin that all made the Hard-Rock sound - which was heavily influence by the blues, soul and a number of other genres.

I have a very unprofessional habit of jamming and recording; kinda like Hank Williams Sr. did when he drank, played and recorded and would look for elements of the experiment to turn into a hit-song.

I later got into the habit of dubbing because I never played in a formal band. However, the few times I was able to get with a drummer, I found it was very easy for us to "find each other." I soon realized then, that though I could rip-leads...I was a natural born rhythm-guitarist - a driving beat akin to drumming. In fact I often drummed on the strings for tempo, and later made it part of my technique with acceptable results. Bottom-line - with my large hands and brute drive inside? I should have been a drummer - the heartbeat. But, when no Adult is around to guide you, a soul does not get good council; in fact no council, yea or nay. No regrets though...life is.

Very interesting you asked this friend, because for years I have had a blues-jam that I have enjoyed playing but have only recorded a far inferior version of it back in the stoned-age most likely. Later, but still many moons ago, I thought to record it again but did not bother - too tedious for this old buzzard. Now? I have my Princess reviewing the Zoom-docs and maybe I will get it down? "If" I can, I'll upload somewhere and you can answer your own question.<L> I "label it Blues" and believe I have captured the blues-sound but I cannot claim so for all ears.
