Heroes II DirectDraw crash win 10

Can't play H2 on my windows 10 system anymore, because on switching between radically different screens (Hero details to adventure map, town screen to adventure map) or when switching to fullscreen and back, it returns a

'DirectDraw errorDERR_GENERIC File: ...heroes2Sourcewingraph.cpp Line:522'

error and crashes to desktop. Tried GoG version, original version, PoL-only version, H2 Gold original cd version, compatibility settings, no dice.

I'd like to note here that running H2 through DXWnd fixes most of the problems and is almost playable, but I'm interested in a more direct fix someone else may have found.

Please help?

Found a solution that's proven perfect so far: dgVoodoo2. What this does, basically, is emulate older Windows versions of stuff, most importantly DirectDraw, which we need, because for some reason, DirectDraw emulation is simply crap on windows 10.

All you have to do is dl the app, specify some config stuff (take care, I have yet to be able to effectively overwrite first settings, other than by removing the application entirely first), THEN grab the dll files from the MS folder, and plop then right next to the executable you want to run. Fullscreen doesn't keep the exact aspect ratio, but it works, cd music and all.

Nostalgia wins!

And Poly plops another useless thread down. Sorry folks!

I wouldn't say it's useless. On the contrary, it now provides a solution for other people that try to play Heroes 2 on Windows 10.
